Where have I been??

Saturday, December 20, 2008

Sorry I havent posted in a really long time. So many exciting things have been happening so I just kept forgetting!

On December 3rd I was sworn into the NJ Bar. There was a ceremony in Trenton and my parents came. It was very short, but sweet. I am now officially a member of the NJ Bar! That is so exciting!

My recruiter at the Pentagon has confirmed with me that I will be leaving for the March 10th Air Force Commissioned Officer Training Class. My schedule is now going to be a little bit weird, in that instead of going to COT and then to JASOC (judge advocate staff officer course) immediately, I will be going to my base in April, and then to JASOC in mid-July. Whatever they say I guess. I will find out in January what base I will be assigned to. I am so excited about this! I want to find out now! I spoke with my brother's friend a few days ago who was active duty in the Army for a while and he said I am going to love it, especially if I love fitness because there are many intramural sports teams I can join, the fitness centers are amazing, and there will just be so much for an active person like me to do. I told him my big concern is that there will be so many things I will want to do that it will be like college where I spread myself thin. But I have to remember, my job as a JAG will of course come first. Ahhh I am just so excited about everything!

On Sunday, December 14, I ran my first 5k! Woot! I did wayyy better than I thought I would too! It was pretty cold outside. My parents came with me and took pictures - so sweet of them and they were so proud that I worked so hard to be able to do this. When I run 3.1 miles on the treadmill, I do it in a little over 37 minutes because I run at a very slow 12 minute mile place. I like to be comfortable on the treadmill. I generally run about 2 minutes faster when I run outside. So my personal goal for my first race was to finish in 35 minutes or less. I actually finished the race in exactly 31 minutes! How amazing is that! I was soo sore the next day, but it felt great!

My trainer gave me Monday off to recover, and I took Tuesday off as well, as I am battling with my acid reflux disease and the medication isnt managing it very well - however Tuesday was the last day I felt any nauseau so far so maybe the meds are finally kicking in. I went back to the gym Wednesday, and of course banged my knee - the knee I had reconstructed 4.5 years ago. Got a nasty bruise. Trained with my trainer on Thursday - but we just did abs because he wanted me to go easy this week. Then I couldnt go Friday because the snow storm we had made it impossible for me to leave my house. (I dont drive in snow unless its an absolute emergency). But I made it back to the gym today, and after feeling a slight lack of motivation, got a great workout in and I feel recharged! So I hope to end the year off pretty well!

I am still going to keep weighing myself and taking measurements once a week, but I am not as focused on the scale anymore. I am at around 126ish and back in a size 2. My original goal was to get to 115, but I feel and look better than I did the last time I weighed 115. For the first time in almost 2 years I am happy with the way I look and feel. I like what i see in the mirror, even when walking around in my undies. So instead of pounds lost, I am going to start focusing on goals that I want to meet instead.

My next goals are as follows:
- Run 5 miles (havent quite gotten there yet)
- Run a 5k in under 30 minutes
- Run 1/2 marathon by January 1, 2010
- Run full marathon by January 1, 2011

I know my 1/2 marathon and full marathon goals are kind of off in the future, but it is good to have long-term goals. I was going to try for a 1/2 in the beginning of March, but after discussing it with my trainer, we both feel it is probably not the best of ideas because I do not want to burn out before I leave for COT, and also because in a few weeks we have to kick up my training a lot for the last 2 month push before I leave. I am happy with this decision though and I hope to run 2 more 5ks before I leave. I am still looking for races right now.

So thats what's going in a nutshell. I hope everyone has a happy holiday, whatever you are celebrating, and a great start into 2009. I will post some pictures from the holidays and my enormous batch of cookies I will be baking tomorrow!
