5 Miles!

On Thanksgiving day I ran a 5 mile race. This was my longest race to date. My goal was just to run the whole thing without stopping. I took it nice and easy, running just under 11-minutes per mile. It felt GREAT! It made me realize that I can run a lot farther than I thought, especially when I pace myself.

Yesterday, I decided to go for another long run. I ran another 5 miles without stopping! It wasn't easy, but it wasn't torturous, either. Although my legs got tired towards the end, my chest never got that tight feeling that sometimes happens when I push myself to run fast.

I'm really happy that I've discovered that I can run longer distances without a lot of pain. It makes me feel confident that I will eventually meet my goal of running a 10K - and maybe even a half marathon. I need to be careful not to increase my mileage too quickly, though. I don't want to give myself shin splints (again.) Yesterday I took the time to stretch thoroughly and I plan to lift today instead of running.

It's nice to know that the past year of hardwork has really made a difference. Sometimes I don't realize this until I push myself to reach new goals and I discover that it wasn't as hard as I thought.

    Awesome job!!! My goal, once I am back to running completely, is to run a 10k and a half marathon too!! Congrats on your 5 miles turkey day run.
