We adopted Tidus (and Miss Kitty) from a shelter 5 months ago. He was a "tuxedo" cat--black with a white chest, boots, and nose. He was the funniest sweetest cat ever!
We treated him for asthma. The prednisolone weakened his immune system and he got a very bad kidney infection. I've never seen anything come on so fast. His temperature was 106.
His asthma was so bad that if we didn't keep him on the prednisolone, he'd build scar tissue and lose his lung capacity slowly and eventually cough himself to death.
If we kept him on the prednisolone, he'd surely be susceptible to more excruciating kidney infections.
He was still having long coughing fits on the prednisolone, so his case of asthma was bad.
All alternatives were costly with no guarantees and my husband didn't want to watch him die slowly from the asthma.
We put him out of his misery Sunday, only 3 hours after the infection came on. It came as a horrible shock and loss. He was only two years old and the most loving and funny cat ever. We miss him so!
Miss Kitty wonders where he is and we all can't believe it happened still.
We'll try to move on and adopt another cat in a few weeks...
