16 miles!

Monday, November 24, 2008

Well, I did my 16 miler on Friday and dang it was COLD!!! It was low 40's and very windy. DH only lasted about 5.5 miles and he hopped into the car to listen to music, LOL! By the end, I thought I was close to frostbite because my hands (even in gloves) were so cold! In comparison to my 14 miler, I think I did okay. This time I did a 3/2 - more walk than run. It worked out to about the same speed as the 14 mile run. I was very achy though, by the 13.5 mile mark and walked most of the last couple miles again. It is still hard to conceptualize another ten miles added on but I am very determined to see it through =) I am proud of how my body bounces back now after a very long run - how amazing our bodies are. I am so thankful for this life I have...

I am still working on nutrition too. This time, I was starving by the end of the run. I had chopped up a traditional clif bar into bite size pieces and it was not enough. Not sure if it was the cold or what. Also, still suffering from foot cramps a lot. I ate banana as part of my brekkie that day and another as a pre run snack about an hour or so before the run. I also drank water regularly??

    Maybe water's not enough.

Have you ever tried mixing Gatorade into your water? (50/50 or so...) Just an idea. Works for me.

Congratulations on that run - and the 18 miler, too! :)

P.S. Not exactly caught up on blogs or anything, but wanted to comment on this real quick as I was skimming.

Wow that is fabulous! And you will definitely be able to do the marathon distance, just believe in your training. You're doing great!

I haven't run that far but on my long runs I find that what I eat for dinner the night before is just as important as what I eat for breakfast. Your body definitely needs lots of fuel. If you have a local running store they should be able to help you out with what and how much to eat.

Keep running... you are amazing!!

Well, great job on the 16 miles!!! That's awesome! As far as you starving by the end, did you have a big enough breakfast? And you were hydrated, so that's good. Hmm...I really don't know! I'll have to think about it and get back to you. Does it happen everytime on a long run, or just Friday?
