1/2 Marathon Here I Come

I have decided to bite the bullet and sign up for the Carlsbad 1/2 Marathon on January 25, 2009. I have been training for the past couple of weeks and am excited about the prospect of doing something big and challenging myself to step outside my comfort zone and just do it!!!

This past weekend, I ran further than I ever have in one stretch. My Nike Plus said it was 6.88 Miles and I walked about .25-.50 (warm-up & cool down) and I was totally psyched. I felt good. I learned a few little lessons like:

1.) I need to carry water with me on longer runs (duh!)
2.) Any run longer than about 60 minutes requires some sort of fuel (Gu, Shot Blox, etc.)
3.) Stretch properly after long runs (another duh! but sometimes I learn the hard way! ha)
4,) I am open to other suggestions so feel free to leave them for me!!

One small step toward a fairly large goal....half marathon, here I come!!!

    emoticon That is great news! There may be a pretty big turnout for this 1/2!! I'm excited that so many people are doing it!!

How are you doing? I haven't heard from you for a while... I discovered facebook, so I am torn between the sites when I am in a hurry! LOL

    A 1/2 marathon--WOW!!! That is pretty exciting! I laughed at your lessons learned! Nothing like those "duh" moments to keep you humble, eh?!? Can't wait to hear more!

    ... work up the mileage slowly.... dont run 13.1 miles tomorrow

... when your running and are stressed over the pain/bored/etc... just relax, and tell yourself how great of a job your doing. Focus on breating, and just re-focus.

... if you dont carry water with you, you can plan a route that has water fountains along it ... aka parks somewhere. (I had a bad expierence once when I was searching for water and thought i would die)

... reward youself with new tunes after a jog!!! It will get you excited for your next jog!

And keep up your fantastic work! I'm so excited to hear about this! ! ! !
