Latest Trick Up My Sleeve!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

I have previously wrote about possibly having shin splints. I was experiencing some MAJOR pain. I decided that I had just pushed myself too hard and increased my speed on the treadmill before I was ready.

Since then (it's been a few weeks) I have been sticking to my slow and steady pace. My warm up and cool down are done at 2.5mph for 5 minutes. Depending on if it's a strength training/cardio (40 mins of cardio) or just a cardio day (65 mins) I walk the majority of the time at 3.0mph.

I've been feeling really good and have noticed that I'm keeping my breathing in check and feel like it's getting a little easier. Because I'm afraid of speeding up too much (b/c I like to push myself too hard), I made a command decision today that instead of increasing the speed, I increaded the incline.

I've never used the incline button on the treadmill before so I didn't know what to expect. I just started out pushing it once and walked the majority of my time at a 0.5% incline. I definitely felt a little more sweat which is what I was going for. I'm going to continue with the 0.5% incline for at least the next week or two and then maybe move up to 1%. Once that feels good, then I'll move back to 0% incline and increase my speed to maybe 3.2mph.

We'll just have to wait and see!
