I think the cause for any emotional eating is stress for me. I have much less stress now, but when I feel overwhelmed, I eat whatever is at hand. what is keeping me grounded this time is that I am documenting what I eat every day, and this keeps me from really overdoing it when I just don't feel like following the program. Being honest with myself is the key for weight loss and any future success. I fell better when I do not overeat anyway, both physically and mentally, so there is a real incentive to not overeat.
