Somehow I ended up in Stage 4 of the Sparkpeople journey, and messages keep congratulating me on meeting my weight goal, and suggest further goals. All very well, but my major achievement is that I've been here about 4 months, I've logged diet and exercise every day (well almost), I've stayed on track, I'm exercising harder, though not longer, than I ever did, I'm eating about 50% more calories than I have for the last 40 years, and my weight and measurements are the same as when I started.
I have this incredible system that kept me on or slightly below 140 lb for 40 years. If I went over that, I fasted till I lost it again, but I never seemed to be able to lose very much. Then I gave up smoking, and despite all my efforts, my weight steadily climbed to over 160 lb.
In desparation I searched the net for answers, and found SP. Well, it seems that all these years I've been doing it wrong! I should be focussing on losing through exercise, rather than through diet. I've lived all this time in starvation mode, and now I would be able to fix it.
At first I gained weight, then lost a little, then stabilised again. I bought some weights and added that to my repertoire of walking, aerobics, jogging, strength exercises. Still no change. I'm now 2 weeks into calorie cycling, eating even more than I ever have before, and have gained again slightly. But this incredible system of mine doesn't seem to be fooled!!
