A Few Adjustments

Okay, I need to readjust some things. I was trying to keep track of what I am eating, but I find that it is very hard to do this when you need to make supper for your family. I mean you can only have so much grilled chicken - especially with a family who loves hamburgers, sausage, potatoes, and cheese.

So...I am going to try to keep a close eye on what I have for breakfast and lunch, but I am going to eat, in smaller portions, what I feed my family. Can this work? I don't know. I cook from fresh ingredients and avoid pre-packaged things. I make pretty healthy meals for many of the meals. So, we'll see...

I did get some good fitness minutes in and it was supposed to energize me, but right now I am absolutely and totally exhausted. But I'm glad I got my butt moving today, anyway!!

    Hi ALLE88! I'm a newbie, but I'd LOVE to chime in!

Cutting back your portion sizes can certainly help, but like the other ladies have suggested substitutions can help as well. My family loves chili dogs - ACK! If I HAVE to eat them (and honestly regardless because I buy the groceries) I purchase turkey franks...more expensive but less sodium and fat. We too eat a lot of potatoes and cheese. et al :o) but if you reduce the amount you are using you are still cutting back something. The big thing to know is that you never want to cut something completely out - that'll make you want it more! Just think about healthy subs you can make and watch your portion sizes.

I realize that I am new and also might have the most weight to lose, but I am honestly not very motivated to change right now. I really need something and I am hopeful that SparkPeople and the connections that I make using it are going to be helpful to my plight. God is good and will provide for my needs...but it helps to know what I need so I can ask! :o)

    I guess the best thing is to find lower fat meats and eat smaller portions and eat SLOWLY so your body can get the signal that it is satisfied.

    Sometimes it is hard to balance dieting with our families need for food. I need prayer on this too. That maybe, until I feel released to do so, I make potatoes but not eat them... What do you think? I am a Home school mom with much too do.

    I think the best diet is one where you can eat what you love. Just make some tweaks - maybe use chicken sausage or you might be able to fool them with veggie sausage it takes almost the same. Add more spices to your potatoes rather than butter and chicken stock works well for mashed potatoes instead of milk. I find very lean ground beef works well - I'm not a big burger person but when I want one I want real meat. Also filling half your plate with veggies is a good goal.
