My Sister in law was an only child, so cousins and Aunts are immediate Family. Her Cousin died a not too pleasant, but natural death. We had our Bible Study and my brother that was leading the Study was, also along with his wife taking us to the funeral in another town. DH decided he wanted to take his power chair instead of the walker and was trying to load it in our van. He is diabetic, so he needed to eat something, so I nuked some left overs for him. Something broke and so he couldn't use the chair and by that time, our ride was there. Oh no, we are late, so we entered a back way. Afterwards the cemetery was just about back where we started but in an obscure area.
Again, we were late. Everyone was ready to leave, so we headed for home. When we arrived home we discovered neither of us brought the house key since we are used to using the garage door opener. But at the last minute, we didn't take the van. Because of an earlier robbery, we no longer hid a key out doors. I know we are weird, but we don't have a cell phone so had to make a call from the neighbors.
No answer at our Sons house and the other Son that had a key was working. I left a message and soon the neighbor's phone rang: (good old caller ID) our daughter in law saying they were on their way.
Oh dear, they had the wrong key and it is 15 min both ways to their house. We had locked the house thoroughly!
I remembered the latch on the bathroom window was out of commission but the screen had to be removed. Finally they got the screen off and he crawled in the window and left us in.
We may have lost alternative transportation because my brothers wife got somewhat annoyed.
This is so typical of our life. We live by Murphy's law, "if anything can go wrong, it will". We are rarely disappointed, but certainly wouldn't mind being disappointed!
So who said that funerals aren't exciting???
