Weird Day

Thursday, October 02, 2008

So it started with me setting off my own house alarm. I mean, I haven't done that in ages! And I didn't really think about it until later this afternoon, when on my way to the surgeon's (to look at my incisions which are healing nicely with antibody help) I zoned out while I was driving and rear ended the lady in front of me. Not much damage to her car, but I wonder if mine is close to being totalled. I was able to drive it home, but I don't know that I really SHOULD be driving it. My hood is all bent up and my headlight is smushed in. Not sure what to do tomorrow...I'm just waiting for the insurance adjuster guy to come and take a gander. My insurance covers a car rental once it goes into the shop...so that may be my project for the day.

I have a confession...I turned on the tv for like 15 minutes last Saturday and ended up buying a NuWave oven from an infomercial! Well, it came today and I cooked some pork chops - right out of the freezer! It was so nice to have an actual cooked meal with little effort.

Can anyone get their sodium below 2300mg in a day? I'm having a heck of a time.

It isn't too hard to get sodium below 2300mg if you're not eating a lot of processed foods. Those canned soups are notorious for being high in sodium -- even the lower sodium ones are way higher than most other foods you might eat. The best way to control sodium is by doing cooking, eating a lot of whole foods, and flavoring things with salt-free stuff like herbs, garlic, MRS. DASH (HECKYEAH), stuff like that. I have some higher days, especially if I eat pretzels, and I have beef jerky almost every day (that's my BIGGEST sodium culprit), but mostly the other things I'm eating contribute minimal amounts of sodium. I would recommend adding it to your tracker and it won't show on the main screen, but when you look at THAT DAY'S stats it pulls up that little window with the meals subtotaled and everything? and it shows each food's sodium out to the side and you can really see, ok THAT food right there blew my sodium count out of the water. Here is where I can make an adjustment to get that lower.

I was curious what my daily sodium intake was so I added it as a nutrient to track and then went back and reviewed my daily food journals for a couple of weeks. I think I must be odd because I usually average less than 1500mg of sodium a day.

What are you eating ? Pre-packaged or processed or restaurant food ? I'm blessed with a stay at home husband who knows how to cook.

Oh no your car!! I hope everything comes out okay, and not just so we can go to the open mic night on Saturday, lol. No but seriously hope you resolve that all soon. I'm a sucker for infomercials, it's a good thing I don't have money for them because I would have a ton of junk! I would totally have every fitness video and equipment (all collecting dust no doubt, ha!) and cleaning products, oh yeah. So I can't blame you for buying anything, especially something practical.

Oh my gosh! You hit the head on the nail. That's exactly what I have been thinking today. How am I supposed to get my sodium count that low?! I have no clue either. Hah, I was going to google it.

Sorry your day turned out yuck! Sounds like quite an adventure. Hopefully you are able to get your car fixed and back on the road soon. emoticon
