Sidelined and Upset

This summer, I discovered that I love running on our treadmill. It was a hand-me-down from my in-laws, and has mostly collected dust until now.

On July 28th, I downloaded SP's "You Can Run a Mile Without Stopping." But instead of following the instructions and running only 2-3 days a week, with rest days in between, I dove right in. I started running three days in a row, and resting on the fourth, and was ready to run a mile comfortably within the first three weeks.

Great! I was thrilled and scheduled by first 5k on October 19th.

Except, now I'm injured. I learned my lesson the hard way. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think I have tendonitis in my knees. Walking and going up and down stairs are especially painful.

I took a week off of running, and iced my knees often. I went to a specialty running store and replaced my cheap shoes with a pair of stability Sauconys to correct my overpronation. I also waited until I was completely pain-free before giving running another shot yesterday. Although there was some discomfort, I did fairly well. It wasn't until I woke up this morning that my knees started to hurt badly again.

Right now I'm feeling discouraged and wondering if I'll ever be able to reach my goal of running a 5k, and eventually a 10k, half-marathon, etc.
