Don't know whether to throw up or cry

Friday, July 25, 2008

Have you ever found out something that on the one hand, you were glad to find out yet on the other hand, you really wished you didn't know.... There is a person where I work who is very nice to your face but who will talk about everyone as soon as they are out of earshot. Well, I found out some of the things that this person has been saying about me. Things like calling me white trash, a conniving witch (with a b though), someone who will stab other people in the back, etc. He has also made comments about my weight and about my appearance in some of my clothing. I knew that this person would talk about other people but to know exactly what he has been saying hurt me, has made me mad and gotten me to the point that just hearing his voice mades me physically ill. His laugh (a very fake braying laugh, kinda like an obnoxious donkey) literally turns my stomach. I want to say something to our boss about him but I haven't heard him say the mean things himself, only what other (very trustworthy) people have told me. So I don't know what to do or how to handle it.... AAARRGGGHHHH!!!!! Thanks for listening.... Think I'll go throw up now.... then cry.

Working with people is sooooo hard! My advice is to avoid gossiping as much as possible, when the people (your trustworthy friends) and say what ever just say not interested!

You are a princess of the Most High God, what a braying donkey laughing man thinks of you matters not one bit. If you speak to him at all let it be a witness for Christ maybe then he will just call you a bible thumper!

Stay strong!

I would get otehr people he has talked about (you say he talks about other people as well) and go to the boss together. Strength in numbers and that way you don't feel like the bad guy because you have support. Make sure you don't encourage his behaviour by standing by idly when he talks about others in your presence, say you think it is offensive and then promptly let the person in question know what they have been saying.

I have been in this position before, where someone has been making fun of someone else and I have laughed along, relieved that I was not the butt of the joke, and then realised that when I wasn't within earshot, I was the one being ridiculed. It's not nice but usually these people point out everyone elses faults to take the focus from their own..

    My dad's favorite verse is

PS119:165
Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

I have learned that people will be people and will say what they want. I went through something like this in January. I got quiet for a while, stayed at my desk and worked and ignored everyone around me. I realized that was not going to help the situation so I just became careful who I talked with and just worked harder.

I will be praying for you because I know it is difficult to go through something like this.

I admit, I am ornery and would somehow turn this around. I might wear an outfit that you knew he had something about and then innocently go up to him and ask him if it makes you look fat/frumpy/stupid/insert other word here and see what he says. Then, no matter what he says, I would tell him that you were so surprised because you knew just last week he had said that outfit made you look suchandsuch and then I would walk away. I have shut MANY people up by doing things like that. They never once stop to think what they do and say might be hurtful and are usually shocked when you throw it right back at them.

Think how much fun it is going to be the day you walk in looking FANTASTIC and he sits and drools over you. That day is coming!

Mean People Suck! You need to first remember that God made you for a purpose...don't let others bring you down.

I do not think it is a bad thing to approach your boss and let him know this is hearsay, that he hasn't actually said it to your face...however, it is still harassment.
