Being a guest at someone's home?

Yesterday was great! I went on a 5 mile run - my ankle is finally healing! I had both a small, healthy breakfast and lunch. Then, I went to two parties - one with foods for grazing; the other, a 5 course meal with 5 glasses of wine!

I'm not going to beat myself up over this. However, in this situation, I am wondering how to eat within my daily limits yet not offend the host by not finishing all of the food on my plate.

Any tips would be great!

here's my favorite replies... all said very gushy and with a huge smile... These even work with my MIL!

"this is soooo good!" followed by did you make it/where did you find this/etc and get them talking about the food instead of pushing it on me...

"oh, I am sooo full. But that was EXCELLENT!" they can't really argue with how i'm feeling...

and when i just know dessert is coming:
"i'm getting full and I really want to save some room for ...."

I figure relationships are more important to me than one meal. I know I can fix a little bit of overeating easier than fixing hurt feelings :) But usually people are just looking to feel good about what they're offering and if they get that, then it seems they're OK if i don't finish my plate.

And I figure that the best part of parties are the people! Which helps keep me busy doing and chatting instead of eating.

I might have to come up with a different strategy if there were parties every day tho!

Your parties sounded like huge fun! I've never been to one like your 5-course w/wine! FUN! :)

Great run! glad to hear your ankle held!
