Keeping Austin Weird

Saturday, July 19, 2008

All of these things were spotted yesterday:

--A woman walking a tiny little dog with one of those vests that helper dogs wear. I thought, "That dog is far too small to be a guide dog. It moves funny, too. In fact...That's not a dog! That's a *rabbit!*" Huh?!? What? A seeing-eye bunny???? For that matter, how often do you see ANY bunny on a leash?

--One more reason to think twice when naming your pet. A sign on a light pole read, "Lost cat. Brown with black and white patches. Has collar with his name: {in very tiny letters} 'Sh**ty.'" Only they didn't use asterisks.
Well, it rhymes with Kitty!

--Sign outside a bakery: "Kolaches in yo belly!"
It wasn't that interesting at the time, but it burrowed into my brain like a line from a bad song and I've been walking around repeating it to myself for the past 24 hours, and now it's hilarious. I keep giggling about it. "Kolaches in yo belly!"

-- The Roller Skating Lady. I've seen her around before, a woman about 45-50 who flies around town on quad racing skates, jumping curbs and keeping up with traffic. But yesterday I saw her go through the grocery store, pick out some fruit, go through the checkout, then go on into the attached cafe, where she climbed the stairs to the mezzanine, all still on skates. And you know what was the kicker? Nobody else in the store seemed even vaguely surprised.

I love going to Austin to see the **weirdness**!

Labor Day weekend, we saw Woode Wood playing along Town Lake.

    LOL Anarie! emoticon
DH and I saw little dogs in bike trailers last week at the beach, and their owners said their helmets were on order!
