So I came across a picture of "what 200 calories looks like".
www.wisegeek.com/what-do
es-200-calories-look-like.htm
It shows portions of food that equate to 200 calories. In my long list of food I love, I love cantaloupes. They are sweet and delicious, they are filling and remind me of my childhood.
Did you know that 200 calories is a whole f*'ing cantaloupe? How cool is that? Now as I look at other foods, I picture the volume of cantaloupe I'm giving up to eat them.
Here's some examples....
Wendy's single burger with cheese = 2.5 cantaloupes
Starbucks venti mocha (with whip) = 2.5 cantaloupes
Enough butter to spread on 2 pieces of toast = 0.5 cantaloupes
1 glass of port (wine) = about 1 cantaloupe
Right now, this visualization helps me put food in perspective. There are still going to be times when I happily woof down 2 cantaloupes worth of bacon but it helps me to compare foods based on volume.
