Love Yourself More Than Anyone Else

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Even though I'm not a fan of country music, I've always been a fan of Jewel. This new song off of her first country album really speaks to me. In fact, the first time I heard it, it gave me goose bumps! These lyrics are good for anyone to hear, as a reminder to love yourself, no matter how far you might be from your own weight loss goal or ideal body.

Jewel: Stronger Woman

I think the line about being "the kind of woman I want my daughter to be," was especially poignant. If you're a parent, the way you talk about and treat yourself will be the example that your kids see. If you want them to have high self-esteem, a healthy attitude about their appearance, and healthy lifestyle habits, then it's a good idea to show them that example yourself. How's that for motivation?

In my experience, learning to accept and love yourself means that you're more likely to take better care for yourself. I think it's an important key in weight loss and healthy living in general.

* You were right about the daughter line. I have been thinking about that a lot lately since my four year old daughter does everything I do right now. I want her to continue to look up to me when she gets older.

I am a country music fan, and I absolutely love Jewel's new song. I can so relate, as I'm sure every woman can. I feel like I am finally at a place in my life where I am putting myself first and I am becoming the stronger woman that Jewel speaks of in her song. I can't count how many times I lost myself in relationships with men. Thankfully, those days are gone for good. So many men have told me I'm fat; one even told me he'd leave me if I gained any more weight; the irony is I left him. I'm losing weight now, but for no one else but ME! Thanks for sharing. --Lisa

I remember Loretta Lynn singing country music about "The Pill" and it was so outrageous at the time. She had six children and had gotten married at age 13. I'm not much aware of Jewel, but I'm sure she has a different attitude. emoticon

I LOVE JEWEL!!! How fun that my two favorite things are connected now!! Jewel has always been wonderful, but I agree, this album is a joy all around (even if some of the songs are sad) - it's about strength and knowing you deserve more.

AMEN! I totally believe in the teaching by example. Parents, aunts, uncles and friends all effect the way we think while we grow up, and we forget that if we continue bad habits in front of children who look up to us that they will pick them up and it will just continue a cycle that only we can stop!
