Making New Goals and Feeling Great

Saturday, June 07, 2008

I needed to update my page to post my goals for June. I find this really helps me hold myself accountable for what I want to accomplish on any given month and track my progress or lack there of. I have been giving my goals for June and future months a lot of thought. A fellow sparker and I have been chatting a lot about doing triathlons and how we are scared to commit but with the support she gained on SP, she signed up. That got me thinking that I might just be able to do it, too. She (Coffee-mate-y) is such a great encourager and I am so grateful for her email companionship. There aren't many people who would understand just how exciting it is to purchase a new sensor holder for your nike plus running system. Not many people would care how a book titled "slow fat triathlete" is. I get excited for her when she tells me she might get new laces and a race belt! haha It really is great that we have SP to find such great people from far and near to help us in our journey!!

I now have put together my plan of action. I will participate in the supersprint triathlon on October 19, 2008. That gives me a little more than four months to prepare. The distances are not super-long and I need that to gain my confidence. I will do this!!!

I have decided to join a club that helps train for 1/2 and full marathons. I think I will enjoy the comraderee that comes from training for something with other people that have the same goal.

I will run/walk a virtual 10k which is a nice stepping stone and not as stressful as competing in a "real" 10k.

The 5k later this month is something I am looking forward to. It has helped me refocus and come up with some new and exciting goals. I can't express how great it feels to have a goal and know where you are going and a basic plan on how you will get there.

I realized that I was limiting myself by NOT committing to anything. Somehow it felt "safer" to avoid making goals and that way I couldn't fail. I am DONE with that. I WANT to make goals and if I don't meet them, I will create some new goals and keep on trying!! I won't regret trying and now making it but I WILL REGRET IT IF I NEVER GIVE IT A CHANCE AND I NEVER TRY!!!!

Now let's get out there and get movin!!!!

Good for you!! That is a huge step in taking charge of this journey we all are trying to get a handle on. I know that I had to do something myself, I was in a stand still, and when I signed up for the 5K in July I knew I had to be accountable!! Good for you and btw you are doing an incredible job with this team Leah. Thank you for your support and encouragement!!
