I sound like a broken record...

Friday, May 30, 2008

I feel like I sound like a broken record, trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. (And frustrated because II just typed this blog once and it "disappeared"!)

Anyway...the weight just does not seem to want to come off. I was down last week and was so excited, now up 1.5 lbs. this week (not due to TOM because I no longer have to deal with that curse..YEA!) I'm calorie cycling, FAITHFULLY recording my food and exercise every day. I have IBS, so my diet may not look as "healthy" as it could be to some people (which is why I don't make it public), but it's healthy for me. I am rarely able to eat too many fruits and veggies (other than plain salad), because when I do, I suffer TERRIBLY from the IBS. I make the healthiest choices I can, I stay within my ranges on carbs, fat, etc. If I have ANY type of junk food (which is rare), it's tracked. I drink tons of water, in addition to herbal tea and almond milk. No sodas (MAYBE 1 a month, if that.)

I have been working out and burning more calories than when I first started here on SP. My calorie range has been around 10,800-11,000 per week. I added a LITTLE more as I started working out more, but I'm wondering if I am still not eating enough, even though I feel plenty satisfied most days. I do cardio and strength/weights, and vary up my routines. Here's my last weeks calories eaten/calories burned (I wear an HRM watch that also tracks calories and even though I know it's probably not 100% accurate, it's very close):

Friday 1383/day off
Saturday 1,525/407
Sunday 1,943/400
Monday 1,687/324
Tuesday 1,362/700
Wednesday 1,256/417
Thursday 1,924/336

I originally based my calories on www.freedieting.com on their calorie calculator at my current weight and what I needed to consume for weight loss of 1 lb. per week. Yesterday, I went back and refigured it at the weight I want to be and at the maintenance level for that weight (which is what I have read several people do). It is about a 500 calorie per week increase. I thought I would try that and see how that worked.

Clothes fit a little better, but it seems like with all I am doing, I should be making more progress.

Any suggestions??? TIA Carla

Don't rely on the scale. The scale goes up and down all the time...It is possible you are retaining water and that is why it went up a little. It's also possible it's because you are building muscles. Please don't get discouraged! We all have been where you are! The important thing is your clothes feel loser and you are sticking to the plan! You are doing great!!! Don't give up!

Yes - stop weighing yourself. Seriously. You seem to be doing well on your nutrition and exercise and assuming your drinking enough water and getting enough sleep then stop weighing yourself. You have a goal of about 1 pound a week right? (Great goal btw :). So weigh and measure yourself once a month. This is for the long haul right? Keep doing what your doing, keep traking calories and exercise, keep motivated and active and stop weighing yourself :).
