Because They've Given So Much . . .

Sunday, May 25, 2008

Memorial Day. It's a day to remember and honor the brave men and women who have given their all to keep us safe and free. As I sit here in my living room , trying to put into words all that I feel about these brave men and women, and all that they have given, to you and me and our families and generations to come, I am in awe. I'm in awe of the sacrifices they have made to do this for us. Of coarse the ultimate sacrifice is their lives. The ones who have fought and died to keep us safe, to keep us free. What about the ones who didn't die? The ones who went, fought and came back. The ones who are still over there. They have also given so much. They have given love, a love for their country and fellow American. They have given honor, they honor us every day by fighting to keep us free. They have given time, time away from their families and loved ones so that we can be with ours. On this Memorial Day weekend I am reminded of all that they have given to us. I am thankful.

There is so much I want to say about how thankful I am, but the words just won't come. So if you are one of those brave men or women, who have joined the cause and fought the fight, to you I say thank you. Thank you for giving me love, the love you have given to me to keep me free, the love I have every time I look at my beautiful children and grand-babies. Thank you for giving me honor, the honor of living in this wonderful country, and the honor of calling you my brother, or my sister, my fellow American. Thank you for giving me time, the time to spend with my family, in a beautiful, free country. Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you to the families of these brave, strong men and women for giving up their time with their loved ones so that they may give all they have given. I pray every day for you, your families, and our country.

Yours Very Truly, and Sincerely,

Sherry: Awesome blog, so heart felt and meaningful. I copied it and sent it to my husband who served in Vietnam. I can't even imagine having a child in the military and have often wondered how my dh's mother could have taken it. My son is now 18 and I remember when we had "Desert Storm" and he was a baby and realizing that some day he may have to go to war. It is a scary thought, but sometimes necessary. We do need to honor our veterans. Thank you for your great thoughts and sharing them with us. We surely do need to keep them in our prayers every single day.

You expressed it very well how much the ones in the military give to each who enjoy the freedom in this country. Thank you!

The ones who love them left here suffer a lot more than is ever noted. I have cousins, a nephew and a sister who went into the service, plus all those generations older than I am. My brother-in-law is there now. He has seen his 10 month old baby girl 2 times. The families miss out on a lot. I, too, will be acknowledging all they have done for us.

That was awesome Sherry. I am so lucky that none of my 3 boys were ever called to duty by the draft. I use to think about that when they were babies. I don't know how families do it when their babies are fighting in the war. They are just as brave as the ones fighting. Have a Great Memorial Day Weekend! emoticon
