A couple of weeks ago I had my two month weigh-in and I have to admit I was pretty shocked to see that I had lost nearly 15 pounds. So far this is easier than I thought it was going to be. My plan is simply exercise, watching my calorie intake and making a few diet changes (i.e. water vs. soda, trying some wheat products I've never tried before such as pasta). Other than that I haven't really been fanatical, such as watching fats, sodium, sugars or other things that are traditionally tracked.
The truth is, however, to get enough food to sustain my energy level but still remain within my calorie goal I can't help but pay more attention to what I am eating and make some changes. The healthier the food, usually the more I can eat without adding excessive calories. So I'm eating a lot more fruits and vegetables, lower calorie foods and watching my portion sizes. Still, I have my Winghouse "wings and beer" night approx. once a week and when my girlfriend is in town both my exercise and diet slack off a bit.
However, the real test is yet to come. If you read my first blog you know that I didn't start this journey to lose weight. I changed my lifestyle to lower my blood sugars. My daily readings have been much better, but tomorrow I have my blood drawn for A1C readings. I'll get the results in about a week and a half. My doctor wants me around 6.5. In the past I've been in the high 7's to mid 8's. I'm hoping to shock my doc.
