More About My "Voice"

Saturday, March 22, 2008

A little bit ago I posted about a wonderful latino poet, Jimmy Santiago Baca. Here is a link to some of his poetry from a performance he gave in 2000 at the Field Museum in Chicago, IL.

I am so taken by the passion, intensity and conviction expressed as he recites his readings...and realize that this "voice" isn't too far astray from the one I use...my own inner coach.

His recital is available for download at this site. My favorites are What Kind of Poem Is Appropriate?, Grandma, Little Girl and Parting Words. He is so moving and inspirational!

Definitely someone who sets Sparks a-flying!

Don this is excellent! I am a lover of poetry. I just got done writing a paper on Emily Dickinson's "I could not stop for death" I know death ugh, but it is a very real thing. At first I was very put off from what my lit instructor was assigning the class. This class pretty much requires one to be open minded, and that I am not. So finding a paper I could write on without giving my opinions was very difficult. Although we were supposed to interpret the piece.... that is interpret with an open mind lol yeah ok anyway thanks for sharing
