Reignite the Spark!

Friday, March 21, 2008

We're kicking off a new project here at SparkPeople. As an active member of the Community, your help is crucial to its success. We're calling it Reignite the Spark and the goal is for you to strengthen the connections you've made with other members and to provide encouragement for members that might be having trouble.

We want everyone to know that our Community is so strong and positive that even if you don't explicitly ask for help, someone from the SparkPeople community is going to reach out and offer a kind word or motivational thought. We want everyone to know that SparkPeople.com is not just a free weight loss website—it’s a global movement of people taking control of their health and helping others do the same.

As an active member of SparkPeople, you have probably supported or received support from a lot of members. (If you haven't had a chance to connect with others yet, you can learn why our community improves your likelihood of success.) But sometimes you lose touch with members that you've created friendships with. So we're asking every member to reach out to SparkFriends that you've lost contact with and see how their doing.

If you're going to reach out to old friends, it might help to look over the some of your personal archives to figure out whom you've lost touch with. (Make sure you’re logged in for these links to work). You can do this by going through your SparkMail sent folder or by visiting your Recent Message Board History.

If you've stayed in contact with all of your friends or you'd just like to reach out to a few other members that might need a helping hand, then we'd suggest browsing SparkPages to see who hasn't updated their page in a while. Once you identify who you'd like to reach out to, the best ways to connect with new friends is to send a SparkMail or a SparkGoodie, or add a comment to their SparkPage or recent blog posts.

The key is that you do something—anything—to let others know that you want to see them succeed! Help yourself and others to Reignite the Spark!

Definitely could use help with re-igniting my "spark"!!! It's been really tough for me these days! So much stress and so easy to sooth myself through my pallet!

WOW... This website is awesome, and this idea is AWESOME!! Someone reached out to me the other day with a message to my SparkPage saying she hoped I hadn't given up! Even thought this was someone new to me, not one of my SparkFriends, it had a profound impact on me! I've been busy tying up loose ends in my schedule, but wanting--indeed NEEDING--to dive back into SparkPeople... What MOTIVATION--and I will look for someone else who needs encouragement!

THANKS for Reignite the Spark!
Blessings, Lyn

I agree with Gardenbug..!! I'm the one who needs to gut up and stay motivated. My job totally centers around being on the computer all day...sometimes 8 - 12 hours depending on the task. Then for me to log on daily and review the blog's or complete all the different tracking pages is just overwhelming. And that's not even factoring in exercise time, fixing meals, etc. I've tried several ways of keeping the tracking info current..from once a week to daily..but, I always have fallen behind.

I'm actually a member who needs a reminder to reignite up my Spark! A few personal and health issues have kept me from exercising and I've been backsliding. If I reach out to others, they will keep ME motivated.

Good idea! Since I've been on SP for over a year, I have a lot of Spark Friends on my page that I haven't heard from for a long time! I'm reaching out to them not only to "reignite" their Spark but because mine needs reignited too! Maybe the one person I help will be me! LOL!

I am only a couple of months into Sparks. And, I must confess that I have not reached out to anyone yet. I will try to begin again! I haven't lost weight, but I haven't gained, so I feel this is at least a small gain (no pun intended).

I do not subscribe to the specific exercises offered, but I exercise at least 30 minutes a day and on one of the days I exercise 60 minutes without stopping. Does this count for spark points? My preferred exercise is belly dancing.

I also walk a considerable amount.

I have been on sparkpeople for 2 months and it is the best site. I have a lot of new inspiring friends. I have been doing very well and I feel the nutrition and fitness tracker are great tools. I have been staying in touch and motivating my other contacts on a daily basis as a matter of fact I have 3 pages of sparkmail just from today to read. I have also had 7 friends join up and 2 more I will sent the e-mail to after I read all my spark messages. Teri

I'm a team leader. It is so important for everyone to reach out to each other. The positive thing about this site is that there are so many articles to read. I belonged to a paid membership site without 1/2 the articles and open support. SparkPeople is a great site.

I am new to SparkPeople. It would be great to help someone or get support from anyone. I have tried several different diets and this program seems to be the best because of its convenience and how aware it is making me of how many calories I am taking in each day. I really believe this will be the start to a healthier lifestyle for me and my family.

Since becoming a Sparker over 2 years ago, I've met so many wonderful friends. It's amazing to get a comment from someone you have met either recently or at the beginning of your journey. So take a minute & just stop in and say Hi! Sometimes that's all the motivation some one needs to keep active & logging in everyday. Drop a note of a new favorite low cal snack or fun exercise you enjoy, to help them out even more! Remember to stay positive & be a friend you would want to have in return!

I need to reignite too! I have been a plateau for almost a year. Good thing is that I haven't gained back the 55 lbs lost but I still need 25 to go and just can't seem to move the scale.

Thanks for putting this on my start page. This is something I do already. Everyday I send a message to at least 5 members on my friends list & I check message boards a few times a week to see where I can pay it forward. THanks spark!

I want to encourage others to live healthier too. I am 45 years old. I just read in the paper today that one of my knitting pals died of a heart attack this past Friday - She was full of life and only 46. This has really been on my heart and mind today. I need encouragement but also want to encourage others to live!

I have seen this site make a difference for myself and my team...what a blessing it has been. It is nice to have such a strong supportive community of wonderful people, all working towards the same types of goals, and there to help understand, support and encourage one another.

I couldn't thank the site or it's precious members, enough!

THANK YOU EVERYONE,
Carol

You are absolutely correct to encourage us to encourage each other. That's what healthy families (or families that are trying to get healthy) do!
I enjoy the benefits of the Spark and hope that others will, too.
Keep the faith!

I still consider myself fairly new to this site (not quite 2 months). I discover new things all the time and think it is great idea to spread the Spark. One of my goals over the next couple of months will be to reach out more than I have so far. I really appreciate all those who have commented on my Spark page and blogs. It is truly inspiring even at this time when I am not making great progress.
