Food Tracker Enhancement - Add Custom Meal Categories

We launched an often requested enhancement to the myNutrition page today. You can now add extra meal categories for tracking food! Many members have requested this because they eat more than one snack a day. So now you can add as many other meal categories as you'd like.

To add new categories:
1) Go to your myNutrition page
2) At the bottom of your day's entries, click the button that reads "Add/Edit My Extra Meal Categories"
3) You can then click to add a new category, and type in any name that you'd like (Snack 2, Mid-morning Snack, Morning Break, etc)

After adding a new category, you can edit or delete the categories, plus you can change their order at the bottom of your page. Please note that when you add new categories they will always show up at the bottom of your page, under the normal categories.

We hope this makes the Food Tracker an even better tool to help you learn to eat better and reach your health goals!

    That's a great addition to the tracker. I do have another request. I would like to track my sodium (in addition to calories, carbs, fat & protein). Is there a way to add that to the list? I'm not sure how much is too much and I'd like to limit it but I need help with that.

I used the Snack category for morning and added afternoon and evening snack categories. Trying not to be OCD that my morning snack category doesn't say "morning" :)

    Wow. Thanks. Does the auto meal decide what I should have on my extra meals or is it just a new slot?

How can I save a recipe for my food tracker without uploading it to recipe.com. Sometimes my recipes are just slightly different and I don't want to upload, but I want the accurate calorie count.

Also, I wish I could copy and paste a previous day. Sometimes I have the same thing like maybe, every Monday is meatloaf, every tuesday is fish fillets. Etc. It would be nice to track automatically what I normally do without having to enter it every time.

Thanks. Love the site. GREAT WEBSITE. Fabulous. You are doing a great job and this is a great service. I shared it with my doctor and his nurse. They were fascinated.

Also, I would like if you could incorporate the menu items from Leanne Ely's Saving Dinner at www.savingdinner.com. She already has the calorie and breakdown but it would be great if her site and yours were compatible.

How can I have her contact you?

    I love this feature, but where exactly are you able to drag them to change the order? I can't do that.

(Edited to add:) Never mind - I figured it out! You can only drag them on the edit page.

    just added my am and pm snacks. Works well I have'nt had to drag anything, it has just added them to the list under dinner and I can click on it as you can with the others. SP yet again I am very very very impressed by this site and keep telling all my friends about it!!

    Hmmm, mine won't let me drag the new entries.

OK, I figured out that you can only do it on the add/edit page. What would be really nice is if you could move all the meals around. For instance, I have a Pre-workout Snack and then go to the gym before Breakfast. Then I have a Snack in between Lunch and Dinner. Any way to make the meals on the Nutrition page moveable? That would be great.

    This is a great new feature!! But, I'm having problems changing the order. I want my "Morning Snack" in between Breakfast and Lunch and I know it said you can change the order at the bottom of the page, but I don't see anything. Help?

    Just for the record, you can't add "mid-morning snack" because the system rejects punctuation marks. Including that hyphen--I've tried.

    Both my husband and I have tried adding different categories - for example - afternoon snack - evening snack - however when we click to add the category - nothing happens. Neither of us can get the link to work for us. Would appreciate any advice. If it was just one of us I would figure we are doing something wrong however neither of us can get it to work on either of our computers.

    I really like this new feature but am disappointed that it won't allow me to order all my meals ("they will always show up at the bottom of your page, under the normal categories"). It makes a lot more sense to have my "mid-morning snack" between breakfast and lunch. Thanks for listening to our feedback to constantly make SparkPeople better and better!

Right now, I can't even seem to add to my lunch, It got a "page cannot display" error trying to add to my tracker something I just put the info in for.
