It could have been worse...

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Last night while driving home from work I officially broke my car. I have a 50 mile commute for work and found out the hard way that I was out of oil. My motor locked up, it was 6:30 in Fort Worth traffic. I was able to get to the shoulder of the freeway and call my husband to come rescue me and while waiting for him a friendly officer pulled over to wait with me. My husband showed up just after 7:00 on his motorcycle to hopefully quickly repair my car, or worst case scenario take me home on his bike. Unfortunately my car wouldn't start so we did have to have it towed, but fortunately I only had to ride the bike about a mile because my Mom and Dad said I could borrow one of their older cars (think 2005 Chevy Impala almost fully loaded) and they even brought it to me (40 miles from their house to where I was). I didn't get to go home and have the chicken for dinner like I'd planned because it was so late and we waited for M&D at Whataburger, but I had a Jr burger and small fries instead of a huge portion of each.

Last night could have been one of my top 5 worst days, but it really turned out okay. I had many things to be thankful for (weather, time of day, able to actually pay for the tow truck, able to borrow the car, and my hubby and I didn't fight once!) and sometimes bad things happen. I chose not to let it ruin my day.

Wow. I got stressed just READING that! (And omg, it so seemed like something that could have been pulled from one of my own chapters!)

Great job dealing with the stress! And I think that when you are faced with unplanned food choices, it's a HUGE step in the right direction simply not falling into that "Oh well, might as well order what I normally would" trap! emoticon

What a good way to handle such a bad day. You are a prime example not letting the bad things get to you! Good luck with the car hopefully it will be able to be back in action soon.

Oh So Yummy!

I love eating at Chipotle! My favorite is a burrito bol with extra rice, black beans, chicken, sour cream, guac, cheese and pico. My hubby and I have recently tightened our budget though, so Chipotle is out of the question. I had planned on making tacos tonight and had an inspiration! I ran by the store, grabbed some cilantro, jalapenos and limes. I made homemade guac, cilantro-lime (brown) rice, and hubby cooked the taco meat and reheated the pintos we cooked yesterday. It was wonderful, within my budget and within (for the most part) my spark recommendations. Homemade Chipotle rocks!

August 30...too little

Ugh...I just can't get enough in today. I know that I'm not very active on the weekends usually, but I also know that I need to maintain a minimum calorie intake to prevent "starvation" mode.

Super Saturday

I've not really done everything this morning that I'd wanted to, but I'm pretty happy with what's been done so far. I'm half-way done with the laundry, dishes are getting caught up (my poor dd didn't do her chores this week and is having to get caught up on the dishes), I'm going to my sis's this afternoon for a bbq and it's just a good day all around.

I have a few questions for my doc when I see him in November, but I have such a bad memory that I decided to record them on my phone. Pretty smart, right?

At this point I'm still being treated by my family practicioner. I guess I should say that I've been going to him for about 20 years now and this was the first year that I had my well-woman checkup with him. Usually I go to my Gyn but I decided this year to get it all done at my FP and I was shocked at all the questions they asked. If I hadn't gone to my FP this year, who knows when my PCOS would have been caught.

Great idea and don't be afraid to call the doctors office and ask your questions via the phone if you can!! Most doctors and their nurses are more than happy to help with questions between visits!

Great idea! Never, ever be intimidated and unwilling to ask questions of a doctor. And, if you are really sure of something that he/she disagrees with or are uncomfortable with his/her response, please don't hesitate to get a second opinion. Doctors are fallible too!
