How I began and ended my MidSummer

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

No pretty pictures, but I began my day with a HUGE thunderstorm rolling in around 5 in the morning. After 3 weeks without rain, I could NOT sleep through it. It was delish.

Had 7:30 appt to spay cat, so happy my kids got themselves up in time. (DH still asleep.)

Wanted to sleep ALL DAY. Worked out 45 min. at gym, but, other than that, was a basket case all day.

But tonight, late (well after I should have been in bed), ANOTHER (now rare) thunderstorm rolled through!

And I dimmed the lights, put on the Ipod and danced to the thunder and lightning.

Welcome, Summer!

Thuinder is such a life-affirming event. Don't you think it is a wake-up call to notice Nature? Congrats on cat spay. Betsy is next but my vet waits till six month so I have time to rob a bank.

Success! Our first grilled pizza.

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

File this one under, "Why did we wait so long to try this?!" Oh yeah, we didn't have a grill for a few years.

The last time we got pizza, it was $40 (!!!) for two pies. Ridiculous. Also, don't let your hungry husband order pizza.

Tonight, we used homemade crusts my husband had made and popped in the freezer. They were thin, 'cos I'm an ex-NYC gal. And I do NOT eat my pizza with a knife and fork. (*cough*Trump*cough)

I was craving something salad-y, so DH made it Margherita (sp?) style for us: just olive oil, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil (from my front yard!), fresh tomatoes, a bit of minced onion and garlic and tiny bit of oregano.
It was DIVINE. And, I'm told, it cooked up in about 4 minutes!

I was too tired/hungry to take a pic, so stole one off the internet from www.awesomestuffmyDHcooks.com.

Not really (hope that isn't a real site!).
It's from Delish.com.

So glad that my husband is HAPPY to cook on his new grill in this HEAT. The house stays cool, he's having fun, and we all enjoy the end result.

Again, why did I wait so long?? emoticon emoticon emoticon

I went to Providence and ate on Federal Hill at a place that grilled the pizza right at your table. Terrific!

Iron Matron

I heard this inspiring story on NPR today, and had to seek out the original article in the Washington Post. It's about Ernestine Shepherd, a 74-yr-old weight lifter. Check it out!

Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Sometimes great days are just quiet days, when nothing stressful happens.

Days that just make you say: I feel pretty good!

And you realize that you feel good because you ARE NOT STRESSING about something. You feel good because you can be Yourself.

I was grateful for today. I think today was like a vacation, without all the additional baggage.

I'll get you for this. I''l day I've been wandering around singing Thank You, occasionally transitioning (badly) to Stand and all the rest. Thank you is going to be in my head all day and probably tomorrow. Oh, I'll get you....I'll sneak up behind you and mumble something by the 1910 Fruit Gum Company. Or the Archies. Or torments I haven't even (thank the gods) thought of yet. emoticon
We must travel a lot i the same circles - I thought we were already friends, but apparently not. I added you .... all the better to see you with, my dear.

Speaking of Sky and the Family Stone, I saw then perform at the Newport Jazz festival in 1968 or 1969. Then a year later at Yale Bowl.

I was so happy to spot a lone firefly in our yard last night. Sad that it's usually singular---occasionally a pair. Just happy to see their glow.

We keep an "organic" yard, so we get lots of butterflies, bees, dragonflies and the rare firefly.

And on that note, I found a version of one of my favorite tunes on YouTube, so will add that in homage to the honorable firefly.

Where do you live? We don't get fireflies(lightening bugs) around here untill right before July 4th. At our campground I love just sitting and watching them light up and glow like you said, there's so many!!! ;} Were in NE. Oho. We camp in NW. PA. It's only about 45 min. away from where we live.
Love ya', Flutterfli emoticon
