Started the day taking it easy. Then had Mom's home made Mac & Cheese for lunch -used double cream brie, cream cheese and cheddar cheese, yummy!! Had a cup and a half. This is my all time favorite comfort food and I can't remember when I had it last :) Then we went to Costco where I had to be ultra conservative in my spending as I was getting that broke at the end of the month feeling. I had an interesting sample -a protein bar that actually had 32 g of protein!! never seen one with that high a count. It was 320 calories though, but if you were going on a serious long hike or climb, this would be a great refuel. Sorry, addled brain that I am, can't remember the brand, first time I had seen it there.
Then it was home and I decided I couldn't do nothing and had to work off that lunch, so Mom and I went for a two hour walk and hike (took the paved path one way and the rough path back).
The geese and gulls have returned in full force: It was neat seeing the white birds in one area of the sandbar and the dark birds in the other..
Lots of tracks on the new snow:
It was a dull dreary overcast day for most of my four day stay..
Then it was off to my brother's where supper was home made white buns with real butter, pulled pork and boiled broccoli, cauliflower and baby cut carrots. Dessert was a kind of parfait, made out of a two bite brownie, chocolate pudding, cherry pie filling and whipping cream on top, was good :)
Didn't stay to play cards, had too much stuff to haul home from Mom's, as well as I had to go to the club to set up for the game I direct on Monday. When I got home, I checked my messages.
The seventh and last message said I won the grand prize package of the Health & Wellness Fair! Involves a one year membership to the YWCA, towel service & locker and three sessions with a personal trainer! I could not believe it! I NEVER win anything! Ironically, this would be difficult for me to utilize as the location is far away from me and would be difficult to find the time for all the bus transfers it would take to get there. Buses on my side of town run every hour and never meet transfers downtown, they are a pain. But also, I already qualified for a free pass to the City's fitness facilities which are much closer to me. I don't know if they will do it, but I am going to see if they will let my Mom have it in my place, I can only hope.
Giving thanks my special friend Lori was not seriously hurt in a horrible car wreck. Spark on Lori!
Goodnight all, have a Marvelous Monday,

It was a lot smaller then I expected. One display for organic fair trade coffee, three displays on Moms to be, footwear, climbing, a new local wellness magazine, MS display, A personal trainer demostrating a swiss ball as well as a bosu. I tried both and on the bosu was able to balance on one leg. I couldn't quite get the hang of picking both feet up off the ground on the Swiss ball. Then there was a hooping display. The room was way too small to demostrate it here, so they went to the gym. I tried the hooping, didn't do the worst, but I couldn't seem to stop it from riding up higher on me -most had trouble with it dropping. Its actually harder then it looks, I found it tough. Tried to get the hang of it for 15 minutes, dropped a few times. Then I was running out of time to make it to My Curves Zumba. I made it just as they were going into the second machine, so I stayed at the end to get the machine I missed. The Zumba class was small and a good thing as there wasn't much space to move in -the second class only had three people!
Enjoyed myself this morning, although the cold and new snow wasn't very welcome, we will probably go for a walk later today!
Have a Super Sparking Saturday!

We went out for our first walk of the morning. Wasn't expecting to feel that cold. Bone chilling, get deep in your pores cold. Not the temperature so much as the humidity making it seem so cold. The dark overcast day didn't help any.
It tried to snow all day, but nothing much came down. Spent most of the day reading and resting. Then we walked over the bridge to go to Wal Mart as Mom needed some flour to make muffins. Back home and more rest and relaxation. Watched an excellent movie on Turner Classics Jane Eyre. I had never seen Orson Welles as a young actor. It was very good. I have not read the book. It was interesting seeing Elizabeth Taylor as a young girl in a small part at the beginning.
I have a dilemma. Tomorrow is a three hour health and wellness show only for the one day and morning at the YWCA. My Curves Zumba runs smack dab in the middle of it, so I would not have the time to get to both :( Mom wants to see the health show as would I, but I have done nothing much for exercise and feel I need something.. While the pain eases up when I am resting, I do feel it ramping up with just walking, but the rest of me would feel better moving.
Two days in a row without exercise, can I do this? I could always try the noon hour aquafit instead. Maybe my cramping toe would give me a break.. Just don't feel like hitting the pool when its so cold out...
Good night all, sleep well and have a super Saturday!

I saw my Rheumy today and she was pleased with my blood work and saw no reason to change my medicines, as on the surface, it appears they are working. She could offer no help for my toes, saying there is nothing they can do, but she has offered me a referral to a Dr. specializing in sleep problems. She wants me to splint my bad right hand more, with a working splint as well as my resting splint. I find the working splint uncomfortable and really bulky so I haven't been using it, but am finding my right hand is really getting sore, so will have to get to it.
Mom and I then shopped around and I found a good deal on some Eddie Bauer pants, a nice heavy duty brushed cotton in grey with zippered pockets, just in time as our weather has gotten colder and very windy and my sweatpants aren't warm enough.
Then Mom got her hair cut, was spontaneous and ended up liking the young man who did it, realizing he really knew how to handle difficult curly hair. It was interesting to watch. He would actually take a lock, twist it tightly around and the cut on the strand, never seen anything like it.
The we went to an Asian restaurant and I had ginger chicken -not breaded, but boiled, with a ginger sauce with real pieces of ginger in it, was on a bed of very fragrant Basamati rice..
Then we walked part way home, but the blowing dust and cold was too miserable so we stopped at an Art gallery, and I had hot chocolate (made with real dark chocolate in water) while she had a coffee.
Then it was home for a relaxing afternoon and evening. I was really feeling my sore muscles and iced up. Not used to the Curves machines yet.
Another brain addled moment - I forgot I was to play bridge with the Probus group today, so the guy who offered to kindly give me a ride would have got no answer from my apartment :(( When I realized I was supposed to go, it would have been too late to get him as he said he was having lunch downtown. So he would have gone all the way back to pick me up. Bad, bad, bad this memory of mine -I get distracted way too easily and forget what I am supposed to be doing :((
Hope you all get a good sleep and have a Fantastic Friday!

I woke up and my leg muscle wasn't quite as sore as yesterday after a good icing. So I hit the bike and elliptical for 60 min cardio, then I brought out my step and did a 35 min step work out. As my PT said do more squats and this DVD focused on the lower body so had lots of squats, didn't seem to affect my muscle any. I do struggle with the concept of taking it easy and not giving it my all and not leaving everything on the floor so to speak ;)
Then it was off to bridge. Yesterday, I played my last round against the woman who dumped me as a partner in spite of me being there for her since the very beginning when she first came into the club (and was talked about because she is very obese) and throwing her a party when she earned her Life Master ranking. Well it was no fairy tale ending. We were in first place going into that round, and as fate would have it they bid a slam and game no one else found and the two bottom boards dropped us to 4th :( Wouldn't you know it, today, once again, I found myself playing against her in the last round and once again she had the hands and gave us well below average boards :(( Who says the underdog gets his day?? Grrr.
But I soon forgot the insult as it was a warm, bright sunny day in spite of the forecast being for gloom, so enjoyed my walk home. A balmy 39 F (4 C) You could feel the sun's warmth!! Thursday is calling for snow, we shall see.
As part of being brain addled, I realized I never tracked my evening cardio on my Fitness Tracker yesterday -so I left 12 Spark points I earned on the board!!
Makes it mighty hard to earn those points to get goodies for my buddies especially as I keep missing the big goodie points on the wheels -saw another 500 sailing on by today..
So I had said goodbye and see you on Friday to the lady I thought I was playing bridge with, and she called me later to say it wasn't her -I forgot March has five Fridays, and I don't usually play on the fourth one -it meant starting tomorrow I have FOUR FREE days!!
So tomorrow morning is my rheumatologist appointment, then I will enjoy spending four days of rest, peace and hopefully healing of the quad muscle and some blissful nights on Mom's big comfy couch :) Can you feel the warmth and smile in my words?
Doing my happy dance!
And as a special bonus, my brother has invited us over to his house for supper on Sunday, a very rare occurence as his two jobs and family keep him busy. I am expecting carb, carbs, carbs as their idea of veggies is peas, corn, carrots and mashed potatoes. My brother makes his own deep dish pizza. They already killed one deep fryer and I don't know if they got a replacement yet, but processed foods are a mainstay -I remember onion rings one time. Will just have to suck it up and enjoy myself. It will probably mean some cards after as my uncle is coming too -we play only rummy.
So, here is to getting the inner turmoil and beasts tamed and back in their cages :) Sometimes the challenges in my life get to me a little..Daily pain can mess with your mind, even though I am used to it.
Just a reminder, I am going into the abyss -my stepdad has very poor internet, very slow, hard for me to do anything -so no photos, and a struggle to get around to all your blogs -also its too bright in her house to see my screen, so I only have the morning and night to try get online and get around. But then, I am going there for a rest so I expect to do anything with her she wants so she won't complain I just spend all my time on the computer ;)
Hope you have a good rest of the week and a fabulous weekend -I know I will :)
