Wed Podiatrist Visit

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Started out my morning trying to get my exercising done before my early appointment with my podiatrist -8:45 am! Was interrupted by a lady who said she was stranded on the main floor because a sign said the elevator wasn't working and the other one wouldn't come down. I tried the button and the door to the elevator supposedly not working opened up. Suspicious. But I took the time to call the housing authority to find out what is up, but the night staff didn't know anything and said she would ask the operations manager. I assumed this would not happen until regular hours (it was 6 am). So I wasted 20 min of my time on the phone. I went back to ask the sick lady what her name was and she was gone. Never did get an answer if the note was fake or not. Scrambled to finish, hit the shower and have breakfast, and just barely made it when Mom showed up.
For the first time ever I had to wait to see Dr. Rose. She was behind because A: no assistant and B: no secretary! Anyway, I showed her my orthotics where my sore toes had really left a mark and she said my corns were built up more than normal and added more padding to the orthotics and scraped off the corns. Then I suggested trying a partial silicon toespreader for the toes I am having trouble with, the one is sticking up because the small toe keeps rolling under it. So she took a long time making me several of them to try. So she will be really behind in her appointments, but I was happy to see she didn't try to rush through my appointment to try catch up, she is wonderful! It made Mom late with the car meter, but lucky we got no ticket. Then it was some shopping where I am trying a new almond butter -but its roasted ones instead of the natural raw one I had before so I don't know if I will like it. This one you don't have to stir but also has some sea salt and cane sugar added which isn't the best.
I came 4th in bridge today. Liked the walk to and from the club, but not the strong winds. As soon as I got home the smoke was in there and I opened the windows wide. I called my uncle to see if he wanted to go to the talk they were giving on this fabulous cross Canada canoe odyssey six people -two men and four women went on. It was a fabulous slice of the waterways and gorgeous scenery we have here.
Tomorrow is my stress test! Here is hoping I don't fall off the treadmill LOL. I know I should have practiced first -our building has a brand new one, but I personally don't like them as I did try one before -the impact isn't great for my feet or joints and things kept moving after I got off -didn't care for that feeling for sure.
Good night all have a Terrific Thursday!

Glad to hear a doctor got to look at your feet and hope what she did works out well for you. I hope you do good on the treadmill, too, it should be a piece of cake for you with all the hiking and walking on all kinds of terrain.

Glad your doctor took the time necessary to get everything done for you. I was afraid that the lady was up to no good just trying to get into someone's apartment. Where does all that smoke come from?

Sorry you took the time to help that lady, yet she doesn't wait....odd.

I use the silicon toe separators....between my big toe and the next on my left foot...if I don't, it feels like the nail is digging in, yet the toes look normal....Hope they help you. Here 2 cost $4.99 Hard to believe they are so expensive.

That Dr. sounds like a GREAT Dr. and not under pressure. That had to feel really great.

Be sure to let us know how that almond butter is!

Did you get any picutres of the canoer's???? Bet that was neat.

Well, now, don't stress out over your STRESS test!!! emoticon

I like the eliptical more than the treadmill, in that it is easy on my knees. BUT I read an article here from Nicole, about the treadmill, and how to increase the "burn" by upping the incline, which I do now!!!

Best of luck with that stress test! Treadmill not my fave either . . . but have had stress test several times and it wasn't too stressful!!

Thanks for your comment on my doughnut blog . . . we just keep on trying to change it up, right?

It was very windy here for a couple days too . . . and now really feeling like spring (although I know, winter could blast back any time!)

Weird about the elevator. Probably make sure you take reading material with you when you're using them. :-/

Good luck with the toe spreaders. I hope one of them helps.

And too bad they do the stress test on an elliptical. Last time I went for one I had just started working out (too fast) and I had shin splints. No way they got a good reading on that. I couldn't do enough to really get my heart rate up because my shins hurt too much.

Had another 3.5 hour night of broken sleep, tried to rest in a bit, but couldn't sleep any more.
I did 30 min on the bike and 30 on the elliptical to start my early morning then headed off to Curves. Took the fields and back alleys there and what a difference the melting makes. The roads were just totally frozen ice and what was left of the snow was hard wind blown and tough to walk on. At the bottom of the hill was a swamp! But most of the rest was frozen. Wasn't going to come back that way. Enjoyed my workout, it wasn't busy so took a nice long stretch on the apparatus :) On my way back via the normal route, the sidewalks were all icy from runoff so I fast walked down the middle of the road. Fortunately, it was early enough there were few cars out.
Had breakfast, hit the shower then relaxed and Sparked a bit.
Off to the club where, by noon, most of the ice run off on the sidewalks had melted a good thing as there were too many cars on the road at that hour to walk on it. Unfortunately, had a dismal game with my mentor, 47%. Back home called my uncle and we were off to the casino. I did have a chocolate cake with chocolate chip icing and a small scoop of ice cream.
Then I wandered around watching people play and saw quite a few win impressive numbers. I decided on a machine to play my $5 free 'coin' and promptly lost it all on one spin when I pressed the wrong button! It was only a penny slot, but somehow I managed a $4 spin!!! I thought I pressed the buttons for 40 lines at one cent a line, but when nothing happened, I hit the big button on the right which, if I had paid attention said maximum bet emoticon This is why I don't gamble emoticon emoticon
Stayed for about an hour. Was hard being there that long.. To redeem our rewards, we had to wait in a long line up that was near the smoking area -its supposed to be enclosed, but for some strange reason they had the double doors wide open :( It was all over the room, hard to get away from it
Then I came home, settled in for a read, and while making supper, the dam smoke started pouring in. The winds were really thumping. Winds going from 41 km to 50km/per hour. It was coming in faster then I could get it out. Decided to forgo an evening of reading in smoke filled living room and stay in my bedroom, where I will actually attempt an early night.
Busy day tomorrow, 8:45 am Dr. appointment so need to get at my exercises early anyway.
Have a good evening and sleep, and a Wonderful Wednesday!

Can you read in your bedroom? Is it large enough for a chair and lamp? At least it sounds like the smoke doesn't get in your bedroom.

I am with you on the casino and betting. Don't go as I have no clue. I did go with Ken, Jo and Dennis and actually was very surprised when I accidentally won $50.00. Took my winnings, put them in my pocket and kept it there...was my only time there and beginners luck.

Too bad on the "max" bet. :( Not a gambler either. I like to play if it's like a casino night where you get a bunch of fake money, but no way I'm putting any real money out. :)

Hope the wind settles down soon. It's hard to get around with it taking your feet out from under you. Won't tell you what the weather has been doing here. It has been a weird year. I'm still waiting for winter - but looking like it has totally stood us up for the year.

My morning started out pleasant enough, enjoying my exercise and getting the bonus of spotting the rabbit while I was on the bike in my building's exercise room! He was all white and I was thinking he better get that brown fur in quickly at the rate our snow is melting!
So was preparing breakfast after my workouts when the cigarette smoke started pouring in. The wind had come in a hurry :( I had my window wide open and it did nothing, blowing the wrong way, so opened my door to try get it out, but it was strong in the hallway too. Eventually, though the draft went through my apartment , pulling it out and I could breathe easier.
Then it was off to the club to direct the senior's game. It was my day to be dumb. A lady came in and dropped off lunch for a guy who had forgotten it. Wouldn't you know, when I called the lunch break, I went and gave it to the wrong guy!! The guy who it belonged to had rushed out to buy himself lunch somewhere! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Then I took a director call from the dragon lady -and of course screwed it up *sigh*, but remarkably, she let me off easy, very unlike her as she is the type to relish in every little fault she can find with me.. But still, I hate making the error :(( I also gave a wrong call with another lady, one of my favorite partners, but fortunately, it didn't hurt things as they got to where they were supposed to. But sometimes I have to wonder where my head is at.
Wanted to do Zumba tomorrow night, but my Uncle called wanting to go to the casino for his birthday month -free cake and ice cream and beverage and he gets a gift and a chance for some more free slot plays. I have low tolerance for casinos, I will play the $5 in free coin I get and then when that is gone, will just watch others play. His birthday was March 5th and I forgot. I have to go through all my birthdays of my relatives and put them on Spark People's appointment reminders in their daily planner so I won't forget them.
I seem to forget so much these days..
Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday

Sunday, Sunny and Warm :)

Monday, March 12, 2012

I was very surprised not to feel too bad when I woke up this morning. I also had 'slept in' as the water class didn't start until 10 am, so I probably got about 6.5 hours broken sleep. Maybe it was the extra time on my heating pads that soothed any aches I might have had from my busy day yesterday..
It was wonderful getting back in the water for aerobics, but not as comfortable as I would like. I could feel my hip muscles on some of the movements and also I could feel my ankles tightening up. I did 45 minutes of the class until I got out because I felt I was close to a cramp coming as my ankle muscles really were tightening up. As soon as I hit the hot tub, they relaxed though. To me, the water felt cold, and that probably doesn't help as I tend to lock up when I am cold.
It was home to Mom's to read for a spell -starting Malice by Lisa Jackson, good so far. Then Mom and I headed out into the sunshine for a walk along the river. Was tough getting there as there was water running everywhere or slush and ice to contend with. When we finally hit the trail, there was no ice, but water and mud from snow melt was running over it constantly.
As it was such a warm (6 C 43 F) day, tons of people were walking the trail, families and dog walkers were out and I enjoyed seeing all the dogs :) Some boys were even wearing shorts!!
I was miffed to see someone had gotten a photo of the porcupine on the Weather Network's page from Saskatoon -lucky so and so, also, someone from a small town just outside of Saskatoon got a great shot of the aurora borealis -very spectacular thanks to that huge solar flare.. I am at a lousy part of Saskatoon to see them, too many bright lights here. I did see some faintly when I was at Mom's once, but my photo didn't turn out as the lights interfered with the focus.
I hope you all have a wonderful week -work those programs!

Moving and Grooving!

Saturday, March 10, 2012

I started out my early morning with some Nordic walking, then 30 minutes on the bike, 30 on the elliptical of intervals, interspersed with my strength training PT exercises, crunches with a weight on my chest, a constant bridge while doing hamstring pulls on the ball. The usual side leg raises with 5 lb weights, ditto with clamshells. I was wanting a good workout. I wasn't feeling all that well, but I was determined to get to Zumba at 10 am this morning, so I took some painkillers. Its been a long time since I bothered. It gave me the boost I needed to move it. The morning was pleasant and sunny. The snow had been melting, and the field and hill I had to cross to get to my Curves had crusted snow I had to push through. It came up to just past my ankle. It was hard work, like doing a high step march with some force to step down through the crust of snow. I enjoyed my Zumba, but the rust was sure showing. I stayed for the second class, following along the dance moves trying to get them down, but not doing the machines.
Went home and did a thorough vacuum. I had lunch and then it was grocery shopping time. I had to do some veggie prep and then hit the shower. As soon as I see the laundry room free, it will be about three loads worth.
A productive, busy day, but no guarantees how I will wake up the next day. I am hoping maybe to hit the pool and hot tub tomorrow.
There is no question I feel better moving around and being active then just sitting around. No sign of those cramps while moving. No aches as long as I am a going concern!
I love doing things with my music thumping away in the background. I like upbeat, fast rock music with a beat. I don't feel tired or fatigued in spite of only three broken hours of sleep. I am having my raw green tea at noon in hopes that will keep me alert and not so tired in the afternoon. The latest information says NOT to take naps, but to try establish a regular sleep wake cycle. I am willing to try anything, but oh does that bed beckon me sometimes!!
Good night all, have a good sleep and a Sparktacular Sunday!
