Dash, Slash and Crash!

Friday, February 17, 2012

Got up early at 5am and got right into my exercises. Get stronger means they are getting longer and it took me two hours and 45 minutes to get done. Had breakfast, then started vaccuming and moving my furniture around in anticipation of getting my fatigue mat flooring back in :) Phoned Mom and was ready to go. First stop: Bank. New credit card was in as was my bill that I requested that got 'lost' in the mail. Clerk had trouble with my new card, my pin wouldn't work, so I had to put a new one in. Great!! Two numbers for my sleep addled brain to remember!! Then it was a stop to my eye care place and low and behold it was open later on Thursdays. But Mom said we would wait the half an hour until opening as she wasn't coming back this way because it was snowing. Got my adjustments and two rubber tips for my stems to help hold them in place. Snug as a bug now. Then it was off to Costco! Unfotunately, on the way, we passed a car that was in the ditch with its front end missing and two police cars covering the area. She questioned my need to drive all the way out to Costo (on the other side of town from where I live and on the outskirts of the sprawling city. But as usual, Mom would do anything for me. Costco has some things no other stores gets, its as simple as that.
Loaded up at Costco, not many treats, then made a stop at a grocery store for bananas.
Well those bananas fought me hard when I tried to break them apart. My finger hurt, but I ignored it. But when I got to the checkout, there was blood all over. Frantically, I started mopping it up and wiping off the counter and the bag of bananas before the clerk could see it. I staunched to flow on my finger discreetly. Didn't want anyone panicking over catching something, not that I have anything contagious.
Then it was home to Mom's for some quick lunch. Then Mom and Angus took me home, unloaded the groceries, helped put my floor in and Angus finished taking out the 50 foot useless telephone wire snaking around my living room (I had gotten it halfway done). Had to pull up clips as well as duct tape, was a tough job. With my new cable phone, don't need the wire.
Then it was time for a quick lay down, the first time I got off my feet today. Spent about an hour and half resting. Then it was up and at them. 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes of kickboxing. I am getting more confident with the moves and how my hip behaves, still being very careful and controlled, but keeping up with the video none the less. Felt good on my floor. Then it was prep and eat my salad was cleaning and cutting up my new veggies. Ate all that I prepared and then cleaned and cut up more veggies for the week. Then I washed dishes. And now, close to midnight, tracking everything.
Going to hit that bed hard tonight. Hoping it will include some sleep too.
Have a Fantastic Friday all!
Hugs,
Linda

Sounds like a great Friday but I sure hope your finger is ok. Sounds like it bled an awful lot. Is it a deep cut? Glad you got everything accomplished and you and your mom and Angus all got home safely. Glad they were able to help you. May God continue to bless them and you.

Hope your finger is feeling better. I had a similar experience yesterday with my thumb. At least I have blood I guess lol.

This sleep thing must be soooo frustrating. I'm lucky that normally sleep isn't a big problem for me but I too have some nights that may as well not have existed.

Have you ever tried a white noise machine? I have an app on my IPod that I use that does the same thing. I can have it play just white noise or I can customize what sounds I want to hear (like a river or ocean waves - my personal favourite.)

I have found that this often helps me when I have trouble falling asleep or even just relaxing if I'm finding the sounds around me are distracting. Might be something to try at any rate.

Do you manage to sleep if you lay down during the day? Maybe your internal clock is a little mixed up. If so, you could always try to have a couple of decent naps during the day and stay up more during the night. Not as much fun, but at last you might be able to catch up on some rest.

Off to my own eye appointment now and it is quite foggy here too. Hope the highway is good. Talk to you soon.

Got no sleep at all, but dove right into my exercises. It took two hours and 45 minutes to get them all done. I have decided to just do them once a day unless I feel good in the evening. I need to solve this sleep problem or focus on it. I need less computer time, spending way too much time online. I borrowed a book from a fellow bridge player so I need to make more time for reading so I can return it in a timely fashion.
My mentor and I had a 53% game with a placing, but I found an error in our favour which would increase it, but it was against a woman we with both dislike having to deal with, so I don't know if we will bother getting anything done about it. As we check the score, its equally our fault for missing it. Might have been sleep addled me that did it!!
Looking forward to getting my new credit card set up tomorrow and spending some shopping time with Mom.
Have a Terrific Thursday all!
Hugs,
Linda

I have NO idea how you could work out like that when sleep deprived. The body does NOT like that at all. Is this sleep deprevation due to your medications???? If so you may need to get help. ME....I do the natural thing....Melatonin, and sometimes Valarian root.

Do they have sleep clinics in your area? If so, maybe you could get a referral to one to find out what is going on because that is simply not right - I can not imagine missing so much sleep! There must be some bio-chemical situation going on, maybe due to RA or one of your meds, but a sleep clinic might be able to help you figure it out and help you get the rest your body must be craving!

I'm beginning to truly empathise with your lack of sleep. Usually I sleep ok but this week I've already spent two night not getting to sleep until between 2 - 3 am and one night had nightmares the rest of the night which kept waking me up. Today I am not drinking any tea after my morning cup and hope that helps. I hope you can take a nap today!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Started my morning out at 5 am, getting right into pole walking for 15, bike for 30 and elliptical for 30 with the rest of my two and a half hours spent doing the physio exercises and stretching. Still taking a long time, but that is because I am increasing my cardio.
Then it was breakfast, shower, quick Spark, lunch then off to bridge. My mentor gave me one of her cards -homemade -they are scanned photos of the paintings she does. I love them and she uses what ever excuse she can find to give me one :) There were no gifts at the bridge table though, and we only had a 50% game. We will try again tomorrow.
After losing yet another credit card bill thanks to our incompetent postal service, I had to request a copy once again. Looming was the fact my credit card was soon expiring. There was NO WAY I was going to trust the postal system with this!! I asked the company if they could send it via their internal mail service system, as they did with my bills last year. Well, they could, but it meant I would be stuck with a brand new number, having to change a whole bunch of things that I get automatically charged to it. This is the kicker. The new card would reach me in the next business day. The place it comes from would normally take the Post Office four days to get it here. Secure, fast service. Its the guys handling the bank mail that deserve the raise, not the Postal Workers who were on strike last year. Where is the justice??
My Mom dropped by with a Valentine Treat for me -a new Parka. While its a gorgeous purple colour, its tight fitting and I don't think I could get my thick hoodie and vest under it, and it also rattles like paper when you move, and I really hate that noise. She wants to replace my old Eskimo Parka, but I really love it, how its so roomy I could have twins under it lol and it doesn't rustle and still the hood can't be beat for enveloping my face :( That old Parka is still good and has nothing what so ever wrong with other than the real wolf fur is falling apart :( I love my Mom, but really, really hate it when she tries to buy me things..
I gave myself the evening treat of 30 minutes on the elliptical, followed by 30 minutes of Kickboxing and just loved it. I was very careful and cautious with my side kicks and movements, carefully placing them out rather then the high speed, high impact movement I used to do. It works and I think I will feel it tomorrow!
Thank you fro all the Valentine's goodies and wishes, hope you all had a terrific day with your loved ones or friends!
Running late as usual. No wonder I am an insomniac -need all the hours in a day I can get!!
Hugs,
Linda

Glad you had a great Valentine's Day with lots of exercise. My day was especially wonderful as Ken had follow-up appointments at the Cancer Center in Philadelphia all day. Great reports and next follow-up will be in three months when he will need his yearly mammogram. Other than that his follow-up with his oncologist is in six months. WOOHOO!!! Great news for sure. Just trying to catch up on my rest after that 24 hour marathon trip...drive there and back with all day doctor appointments.
Hope you week is going well also. The sun is shining brightly and I will be going for another walk when I finish reading your blogs.
Blessings and hugs,

I also have some 'old things' that I just love so thought about that when I read of your parka - sometimes things really don't need to be 'replaced,' even when they start to need attention! My mom never got my size right, either, even during the 25 years when it stayed the same - oh, well, must be a mom thing! Hope you're having a great Hump Day!

Oh, Linda, I had to laugh about the comment about your Mom buying you things! I used to hate it when my Mom bought me things I didn't like, but now she sends me the receipt every time, and it's easy to go trade it for what really works. She's not offended, but she likes the challenge of finding a great deal, and just maybe it works out! We really do have generous Mom's, but they sure like doing things their way only! emoticon I have to work tonight so your blog is only a couple of 50 I'll get to read tonight! That's ok, though! Sunny Monday!

Monday, February 13, 2012

Decided to 'sleep in' instead of getting up early to get all my exercises done. It felt good! I stayed in bed eight hours, getting more sleep than I normally do even with all the wake ups. I guess I needed a rest. Will do my exercises tonight. Some residual soreness, but not too bad. Enjoyed the sunshine walk to the club, but not the ice.
My game ran smoothly, no hitches.
The good news relief is when I was searching for something else, I found where they put the missing bidding boxes!! So just one was lost when the cards for it were half missing, so not too bad after all. I didn't find the other missing thing though lol. Maybe I will when looking for something else! I must remember to clear everything away on the desk when they hold a tournament next time -what I am missing is a paper which no doubt got swept up in all their papers and tossed, but the information was on my computer and no big deal to print out again.
Hope to have a quiet evening Sparking and reading.
Enjoy what is left of your Monday!
Hugs,
Linda

Sore Sunday

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Got a later start to my exercises, but got them all done, and then it was waiting. I was hoping my brother might be interested in a Costco trip as I was getting low on blueberries, but he didn't call. So I Sparked and read some and then it was time to go to the club. I was going to supervise the clean up after the tournament to make sure all the table and chairs were put back properly and so they were. But we were missing six of our bidding boxes and one was missing a lot of cards and I made this know to the tournament chair who shrugged it off. It might not be a big deal to them, but it cost us $54 for a set of four of them :( Then it was down to work. There were of ton of spills on the carpet :( I set to spraying them all, then scrubbing them off. Only a couple didn't come all the way off. I was there for two and a half hours. Lots of squats, lunges and scrubbing. Then I set up my game and went home. The footing is just so treacherous out there, its hard to avoid any ice anywhere :( But I made it home in one piece.
As I was fixing supper, the aches started creeping in. Oh boy. Easier to say where it didn't hurt. My head was fine ;) Those heating pads are going to be very welcome tonight!!
Hope you all have a wonderful evening and sleep, and make your Monday Marvelous!
Hugs,
Linda

I hope you are sleeping better.
