MTC Example - Day 8

Just thought I'd post today's workout as an example of what Making the Cut is like. OH -- and I'm doing two repetitions of each circuit.

And if you didn't see the blog before this one scroll down and make sure you do. ;) HAHAHAHA. I'm so excited, I can't help it.

Circuit 1 --

Scorpion Pushups - 20 (These involve kicking your right heel toward your left shoulder while lowering, and straightening again when raising back up. Switch Sides. 10 per side)
Dumbbell Flys on Body Ball w/ Crunches - 10
Leg Extensions - 20, 12, 6-8 (Pyramid up with weight)
Jump Squats till Muscle Failure

Circuit 2 --

Decline Dumbbell Presses - 10
V Cable Flys - 15
Squat Thrusts - 20 (These are jumping from a plank to a squatting position back and forth)
Side Lunges - 10 per leg

Circuit 3 --

Close Grip Pushups - till Muscle Failure (these are with elbows close to the side of your body)
Plank Ups - till Muscle Failure (these are going from palms to elbows and back up again in a plank position)
Jump Squats - till Muscle Failure
One-leg Squats - 10 per leg
1 min Jumping Jacks

Circuit 4 --

Military Shoulder Press - 8 reps
Wood Choppers - 15 per side
Knee Tuck Jumps - 10 (yes, jumping up cannonball style)
Static Lunges w/ Lateral Shoulder Raises - 10 per leg
Reverse Crunches - 5
Hanging Abs w/ a Twist - 10 reps per side

Circuit 5 --

5 30 second sprints in 5 minutes (30 secs on, 30 secs off)

That last circuit is not typical of the program, usually all 5 are like the first four... But that's the gist of it.

So they finally made the public announcement and...


I'm one of the 5 members who make up the Member Panel Discussion at the Spark Your Life Convention!!! :D

YEP -- I will be going to the Convention and not only in attendance, but one of the featured members who gets to share some "secress to success" - BWAHAHAHA. ;)

I hope that some of you will be able to come and see me!!!! :D I'm so jazzed about going and it's been driving me nuts not being able to share this information.

I'm gonna be staying with my best friend who I haven't seen in over 5 years!!!! So this trip will be serving a wonderful dual purpose for me.

And now if you're at all interested I guess I can share a link to my little YouTube video I had to submit as part of the process to be selected to participate...



In other less exciting news: Week One of the BBB 2 Month Spring into Shape Challenge complete. Last week's Calorie Burn total came to 5,103. I think that this week will be very similar at the LEAST, if not identical. But after this week I won't be able to go to the Dance Class on Monday evening anymore, so it will likely lessen, although maybe not too much because I'll be doing more running as I go along with my plan.

SO. I'm going to actually leave my calorie burn estimate at 4,000 and track my food meticulously. I'm slightly up today, but I think that's probably due to the Karaoke Party and Taco Bell on Saturday and Buffalo Wild Wing's last night. *blink blink* YEAH. But I also didn't really track very well last week because I was so sure I wasn't gonna go over on calories, but I'm realizing I need to make sure that this abundance of calories is still being well balanced and that I'm getting the calories from the right sources and not just goign willy nilly because I can eat more now. SO! This week I will be tracking to the T so that I can look at these different factors.

Spirit of the Marathon

Is VERY inspiring.

All of you should watch it even if you don't run. :)

The thing I liked most about it is that they spoke with runners of all experience levels -- beginning runner/first time marathoner, to repeat marathoners trying to qualify for Boston, to a repeat marathoner who is 65+, to Olympic Medalists and World Champions.

And I hope to join their ranks one of these days -- if not this year, I'm now more determined than ever to tackle this challenge.

I have not seen this, but will want to. I'm tackling my half-marathon in three weeks. I'm not sure I want to try for a full one, but we'll see how the half goes. If nothing else, finishing the half and then seeing "Spirit of the Marathon" may inspire me to keep going for that last leg...

So I made the "Salmon Salad" last night, mixed w/ some olive oil based Mayo and garlic and onion powder, topped w/ dill pickle slices on THIS BREAD:


It was good. I was pleasantly surprised.

Very filling, as well.

This morning I did Day 5 of MTC, which is a repeat of Day 2's workout. It was pretty nice. I didn't have any other workout task to complete today so it was the first day this week of MTC ALONE, and it did feel a little different. I'm over 4000 cals now for the week - I think 4300 something. And I still have a run and pilates tomorrow so.... maybe 5000 total? Maybe 4750? Sunday will be a 100% off day and I am looking forward to it. :)

This morning I woke up in a total panic thinking I was late for work and it was Saturday. I rushed around like a mad woman and even tried to call someone before I realized it was Friday. At least I hadn't left the house yet. HAHA. Then I had to try to go back to sleep because I had almost an hour before I had to really get ready -- but an hour wasn't really enough time so bleh. :P

Tonight I will be watching a documentary w/ LAFTERSFREE called "Spirit of the Marathon". I'm totally excited. :) hahaha. And making homemade pizza, too. WOOT.

SPASTIC. YES. *sigh* hahahaha. Oh dear. Don't be frighted, I promise I don't normally look like that. ;)

    oh by the way, how do u like the olive oil mayo?? and is it kraft? sarah d told me about it a few weeks ago, i need to try it, i dont like the usual reduced fat stuff... so far i've just been using reg. mayo but, just very rarely and only a little bit.

So -- I've done Day 4 of making the cut -- AKA Day one all over again.

After a 20min run. :) ROCK ON.

And I've apparently underestimated my burn for this week because I still have another day of MTC tomorrow, a run and pilates on Saturday at the minimum, and I'm already at 3,760 cals burned so far this week (or something like that).

I didn't get enough to eat this morning before leaving the house (was rushing) and I was sitting at my desk at work kinda feeling a bit woozy until I went and ate some of the food I brought about 30min ago. Feeling MUCH BETTER now!!! :D Been drinking a megaton of water.

Last night the salmon ... DH liked it!!! I was surprised. I was not a super fan, but hey, it worked. I think I could have seasoned the fish more because it was just - SALMON. But it was pretty good -- not gross at all. (Not like my terrifying childhood memories hahaha) Anyway. The skin was gross to touch though. I have no problems touching meat, turkey guts... but the skin of the salmon -- it reminded me of a snake only it was obviously dead and I was wrapping it up in ziplocs to throw away so it wouldn't stink up the trash and wow. It just felt creepy in my hands. It kind made me sad in a way because I really like snakes. HAHAHAHAHA That is such a weird reaction I just have to laugh. Anyway -- there is leftover salmon and I'm like uhhh so now what? Can you make it into a "salad" ala "tuna salad"? I'd like to get some of those good salmon benefits without having to just eat it as it is. Ya know?

The veggies came out neat -- in fact... I think the rutebaga (SP?) might have been my favorite!!!! So weird. I've decided I don't love parsnips. They taste good unless I get a taste of that CORE-y part. Ya know how when you cut a carrot at the big part you can see that inner ring? Well Parsnips got it and the flavor of the center is a little different and I'm not a fan. Otherwise, they're good. That poor rutebaga was hard to work with, though. It was coated in wax which made it look extra leprous, and it was hard/heavy as a rock. When I put the rest of it back in the veggie drawer it was like *THUNK*. hahaha. BUT -- resulting food = good.

So this morning I burned over 1000 cal again and I'm just looking forward to lunch. :)

P.S. -- I forgot to mention -- while I'm still very sore compared to prior starting this new regimen, I'm less sore today than since I started. :) SCORE!

    There are sooo many things you can do with salmon. My DH isn't a huge fan of the taste of salmon so he puts marinara sauce on top, a little parmesan cheese and then puts it in the oven to heat the fish through and brown the cheese a bit. Think Salmon Parmesan (like chicken parm but with salmon instead of chicken). Another thing we like is to add an oriental sauce/glaze. The first time we tried it I was hesitant cuz really, ... asian flavors and salmon?? But yeah,... sooo good. That’s my two cents anyway…

    Love the bonus "crap in the background" comment! Lol! Even better are your concientious pictures that show your remarkable success. I have recently forced myself to cook and eat more fish-- salmon included. I too have traumatic childhood trout memories!
btw- weigh in...lost another 1.5 lbs for a total now of 8.5 lbs! I'm starting these new workouts called "the bar method"- a body sculpting workout that targets legs, glutes, and abs. It incorporates pilates with other stuff.... I can't wait to get started; but I orderd the dvds off eBay, not noticing that the seller was in CHINA! duh.

    emoticon I can't help but laugh at your reaction about the salmon skin! That's too funny!! And to think -- I'm touching tons (literally) of fish a day when I'm working!! LOL! There isn't much to do with salmon -- use it on top of salad!!! That's one of my favorite treats at one of the restaurants I frequent -- a Caesar salad w/smoked salmon :) Whoo Hoo! on liking the rutabagas!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!! Just tried them only a few months ago myself -- boy was I missing a lot! LOL!

    YES! You can TOTALLY make salmon salad (just like tuna salad). Or, you can just flake the salmon up and throw it on top of a (lettuce) salad! Delish!!

    Dana, you rock with the moving your body and the pictures are great!
Btw - I love salmon and there are so many ways to cook it. And you CAN add the coked fish into a salad like you would any other meat/fish.
I love soups too, so I sometimes make fish soup or stew from a mix of various fish.
I sometimes make a herb crust and fry or steam the salmon.
The stuff you said about rutabaga cracked me up - I also have that problem since I often make roasted root vegetables.

    dana, i know ur schedule is totally packed now with workouts and you are burning lots of calories, if you want to drop fridays with me its ok with me, just let me know. fridays are actually best for me, b/c that is my least scheduled day so i have lots of time (besides 9am!) to go work out on fridays. let me know what you think, even if you'd like to just drop it temporarily or something. oh and if ur wondering what to do with the salmon, i saw a recipe on here for salmon burgers and everyone rated it very high, u might look into that :)
