YEAH. That's right, I finally recorded myself with some talking and trombone playing. I'm all nasty cause I just finished working out before practicing, but at least you can kinda hear me and whatnot. Enjoy!

The picture is what I'm wearing today, although I purposefully pulled the bagginess of the shirt closer because I really just wanted to see where my body is now. I think I have one other side shot in my gallery unless I deleted it... and it's a big difference!

emoticon Those are swing kicks from Day 30 of MTC. Today was my first ever AT HOME Making the Cut workout. I just did NOT feel like going to the gym, so rather than not workout, I did it at home. I did the Standing Lat Pull Downs and Seated Cable Rows with Resistance Bands (so glad I finally got those), subbed Good Mornings for Back Extensions, but everything else was as written. The excercises were either body weight based or if they were with dumbbells they were ones I'd do with probably 5lb weights at the gym anyway, so I was good. OH except for the Concentration Curls. Those needed a heavier weight. I did the first rep of the circuit with the 5ers, but then I used my 10lb kettlebell for the second rep of the circuit. :) MUCH BETTER.

I also did about 30 KB swings, not much, but it was something!!!

Then I played trombone for a little while with the HRM still on. Then stopped and played a bit more with it on, then without. Made those videos...

YEAH!

emoticon MIXED BEAN MINESTRONE STEW! That's the name of the recipe I made last night. People, I chopped onions, celery, sliced carrots, cubed a potato and a squash -- I was a regular super cooking machine. The only "non scratch" type items I used was canned diced tomatoes, canned beans instead of dried beans, and veggie broth powder instead of homemade vegetable stock. As far as I'm concerned, that is a FROM SCRATCH SOUP! OK and I didn't make the pasta, that came from a box. :P But who makes fresh pasta? Almost no one, thanks. It was delicious but made a TONNNNNNNNNN. The cookbook says it makes 24 cups and six servings, so that means one serving is 4 cups! 2 cups is PLENTY, thank you very much. I added one whole serving to my tracker for lunch by mistake, but I also need to add the peas. (OH yes, frozen peas) to the recipe as well, but that won't add many calories. I will be eating this stuff forever. :)

emoticon Work has been crazy busy today. I came in, prepped for a meeting that started about 50 min after I got here, was ready to walk into the meeting 5 min before it started, the meeting lasted the FULL 2 hours scheduled for it, then I had an hour to get other things done and in order before lunch. Now I'm back from lunch and getting my SparkPeople stuff in order.... then more work stuff to do. :P hahaha :D It's good to be busy, though, it makes the day go by faster.

emoticonUmm, I guess this will work.. :) Adding more pictures to my gallery since I finally put them on my computer today, including ones from "the day I felt cute" as I'm calling it -- with the legwarmers. A little unusual, but I'm a fan. :P

I think that's it....

OH!!! I burned a total of 500 calories from my MTC/KBswinging/Tromboneplaying session, 54 minutes.

    The stew sounds awesome miss fabulously SKINNY in the mirror! I've been having homemade chili for the last two week, everyday for lunch. Might be time to try something different. Looking forward to checking out the trombone playing ...and the legwarmers too! Yay on adapting your MTC workout to your "home gym." You're rockin' it!

    Ok, I commented your page BUT that pic, you look maaaaavolous! really! and the vids ;) , the soup sounds great and I make something similar but I use chicken stock, I make either chicken stock or soup every time we have a whole chicken for dinner so there is always stock in the freezer ;) .

hmmmmm I have been deficit tracking should I be logging guitar playing time?? I have to play that thing 1-2 hours daily on and off all day every day! :)

    I loved seeing you in the videos, Dana. Very cool to see you moving and hear your voice. Great trombone playing!

It's nice to hear that MTC doesn't necessarily have to be done in the gym. I'm holding out on getting that book until I get a little closer to my goal weight and don't belong to a gym either.

Your new pictures look great, too. That's amazing about how much you had to cut out of that top to alter it. You're quite an inspiration.

Oh, and how much would it cost me to hire you as my personal chef. LOL

    Wow, I didn't know you are into music playing.... nice!! I would love to play in a band or group of musicians, too.. but hardly have time to keep up with my piano skills just for myself.... My biggest recent achievement was playing one of Brahm's Hungarian Dances with my husband on a joint piano session for a Fundraiser... so much fun and we plan to do it again next year! Cheers to you, don't know where you take all the time to do all these things and write super detailed blogs almost every day...

    OMG, Dana! I love the trombone playing! Thanks for letting me hear your voice, too! I just think the trombone is one of the most soulful sounds you can hear. It just resounds with feelings of the deep south and days gone by. Too cool! Beautiful music!

You look very pretty in that top above - as always, of course.

I did not feel like working out last night at all. I did however do some body weight strength training exercises plus some jumping jacks during the Biggest Loser, so I guess that counts for something, right? I am SO doing some dvd cardio tonight, though. I saw a kettleball on youtube once... it seems like a unique tool. Maybe adds some more fun to the workouts, huh?

I totally read your beginning recipe wrong. The first couple of times I read it, I thought "people" was an ingredient. I kept going back and saying "HUH?!" LOL! I thought it said "People, chopped onions, celery..." Since when did you become a cannibal? Sorry, I am a little silly tonight! Other than the peas (and people - haha) - it sounds like a delish recipe! Yummy!

Being busy at work is nice, I agree. Some schools I work at, it seems like I just got there, and the kids are being dismissed already. I'd much rather have it that way than to be dragging through the day wondering if it's over yet!

Oh, and about those legwarmers... as long as they're not Rainbow Brite ones, I think you're safe! haha

Run in the Rain

So today's run went well. :) I kinda procrastinated it too long, just BARELY managed to shower and make it to work on time. (One more minute and I would have been considered "tardy" oooooh) Anyway...

emoticon My average Heart Rate was 158 which is ALMOST the lowest so far (157) not counting the day I did sprints that I walked in between to get down to 120-130's before sprinting again. That day's average was a bit deceiving. But yay for my average being low, and that is including a SPRINT to the finish!!! It started raining just after the 3 mile mark, so I pretty much sprinted the rest of the way back to my apartment, about 1/3 of a mile. My average time was 14min miles. So my Heart Rate would have been lower average had it not been for the fast run at the end, and I don't think the time would have been THAT drastically affected had I run more slowly for that last 1/3 a mile. :) So ... maybe I'm getting faster at a low heart rate? That'd be nice. But overall, just a very nice run. I did kind of get soaked at the end, but the rest of the run was beautiful. Nicely shady with the clouds and overcast, breezy and lovely. :)

emoticon Last night was sausages and sweet potato fries. :) Tonight I'm planning to make some veggie stew thing from Dr. Weil's cookbook from the library -- can't remember exactly what's in it, but I'm excited. (Hope it's actually really good...)

emoticon Work has been kind of weird this week. That's all I'm really gonna say about that. Some weird dramas going on...

ANDDDDDDDD.....

I dunno what else. Need to practice my trombone during the week and not just play on Monday night. Gotta go by the library to pick up a book that's on hold. Gotta do some ST at some point this week as well. Kettlebells. Yes.

    Lol, your blogs make me laugh they have such personality. I can almost hear you talking-- I know, weird! Lol! But, it's neat because it makes you feel like you can understand the person a little bit better. I love to jog in the rain, it's refreshing!

    Dans, indeed I am back ;) but onto your post, the running and having a lower heart rate thing, thats great and well yeah I would think the easier it got for you the easier it will be on your body and a lower heart rate should be expected eventually and looks like you may be getting there, awesome!

I too had sweet potato fries with dinner last night, but we had turkey burgers with ours, and the trombone, my son just got a trombone and is joining the band in school, I gotta tell ya WOW is that thing loud and I m going nuts when he practices! lol sounds like hes killing baby elephants with a screwdriver upstairs! yes I said with a screw driver! lol

    that's awesome that your heart rate is so low!!! I wonder what mine is!! Mine used to be super super super fast. My iPod went kurpusky after the 10k run in NYC - it was in my bra the whole time and I think I sweated so much that I killed it. :( lol But anyway there is a warranty on it so I'm going to send it in someday soon hopefully I'll be back to tracking. My way of tracking currently is - last night I raced dave from the bottom of his apartment up the stairs to the 3rd floor and to his door to his room and he BARELY beat me, whereas in the past he would have obliterated me. LOL Anyway have a good one!

Bravo on you run in the rain! I think running in the rain is so Hardcore! It's just that you aren't all sissy, not wanting to get wet or ruin your shoes, and that it's just all "Rocky" and everything! I LUV running in the rain because of all those things, although it rarely rains here so I don't get to feel "Rocky Balboa" very often! I am a weirdo, I know!

Still Maintaining - HURRAH!

So, last week was a little up but it was TOM, this week is back to where I've been maintaining, minus a some ounces, so I'm pretty happy about that.

emoticonMy run on Saturday went really well. I did NOT keep my heart rate as low as I've been trying to in regular runs -- I tried most of the time, but then I got very distracted by everything else on my run and excited and just let it go. :) I ran in a new area and also through all of the Alabama Game Day festivities. :D It was pretty fun to be running past all of the people tailgating and milling around before the game. The only bummer was when my MP3 player's battery died, but it was toward the end of my run and I actually started in a different place than I had mapped -- in the bottom of the elevation map actually -- so I ended on a downhill trend, which made the home stretch more enjoyable than it would have been going uphill without music. :) HAHA

After my run I was feeling pretty good until later that evening I just got exhausted and didn't want to do anything. I'm not sure if it was really the run, or if it was the fact that I didn't really get enough sleep the night before. I wanted to do the run so bad I just got up anyway and went for it, but I think it caught up with me later that evening. I drank water like a demon and ate ate ate so I don't think it was dehydration or refueling issues.

OH and I burned 1174 caloried and ran for about an hour and a half. :) WOOHOO.

emoticon On Saturday I cooked Curried Masoor Dahl and Naan for dinner. :D WOOHOO!! The recipes are both from SparkRecipes and delicious. I have leftover Dahl for lunch. (That's a lentil dish, BTW.) The Naan was AWESOME. My DH was in heaven. :D So I think next I gotta try making some of PSDAHRI's recipes wiht the naan and I'll be a regular Indian Dinner MASTER.

emoticon I did NOT finish my quilt. I finished the front part, organized the squares for the back... and then got pooped. (That was all on Saturday.)

On Sunday I was a total bum -- aside from doing our grocery shopping. I have to say I'm pretty excited about some of the recipes I'm trying this week. I picked up the Biggest Loser Cookbook from the library -- to be honest, it's not super exciting, but I'm gonna try a couple of things from it this week. I also picked up a book co-authered by that Dr. Andrew Weil guy... I don't know a ton about him, but I get an email every day with a healthy recipe so I decided to pick up the cookbook to check out.

Um... I think that's about it, except that I ate really kind of poorly in some aspects this weekend. Within calorie ranges, but I ate a relatively higher amount of sweets than I have in a while. My DH picked up some amazing mini-cupcakes from WalMart's bakery- - they were pumpkin spice with a cream cheese frosting. SO GOOD. 160 cal for two of them, too. So not too bad calorically speaking.

OH! And I DID NOT do the last day of MTC yet. I was just not feeling it on Sunday, and looking at my total burn from last week, I was over my goal by 441 calories anyway. So I decided to do it this week.

I have some goals for October. Nothing shattering:

1. Keep running 3x a week, working Heart Rate stuff.
2. Kettlebells 3x a week.
3. ST - back to muscle group rotation -- will be easier to fit with running than MTC with my Mon/Fri off day pattern. Might even do a body part of ST on those days since it won't take as long.
4. Eat within my range, maintain weight.

    You made naan? Impressive! My hubby and I were giggling at the naan that we were looking at at the market. You would have thought he was holding a cow patty by the things he was saying about it. A naansnob he is. lol!

    ohmygosh, you make me soooo hungry for Indian food! My next door neighbor is from India and is the BEST cook!!! She always invites me over ... but lately, her husband has been working so much in DC that she's living there in an apartment, so no Indian food for me! boo hoo.

They are back to celebrate Diwali on Nov. 1st, though, so I will be catching up with you then.

Kudos on your run -- especially on a day after poor sleep. Those are hard! Way to go.

    Dana, it's a good thing I don't live close to you because your romantic dinners with hubby would often be interupted by me, banging on the door, desperate for flavorful gourmet dishes that fit into my healthy lifestyle.... but not half the chef you are! LOL Seriously, you are awesome with the cooking and recipe sharing.

1174 calories in your run? That is really awesome! Maybe one day you bunnies will convert this walker (and aerobicizer and elliptical trainer) into a runner. The calorie burn is intense, and I do love to eat! ;-)

    How can you run for an hour and a half? That's amazing! I about died - well, my knees about died - at the end of my 5K race on Saturday, and I ran that really slow... almost 12 min. miles! Do you run on trails instead of pavement?

It's EXACTLY 6 miles. :) For some reason the one part says 5.9, but that's a lie because the other part says 6. But either way, close enough. :) And I actually mapped a 6.5 mile route along the same kind of path right before that so I know how I'm gonna continue extending my most favorite route here. :D

Been a good week.

Super stressful at work at the beginning of the week, but lots of good things ended up happening and productive overall, so yay.

DH is feeling better and I'm very happy for him on that. :) Still fighting the sicky stuff though -- said he was feverish while lecturing yesterday!!! But emotionally he's in a better place.

Today was an off day for workouts so not too much to write about....

emoticon - Last night was chicken breasts cooked with Mrs. Dash Tomato Basil Garlic seasoning (SO GOOD, people!!!!), brown rice on the side, and the microwaveable asparagus thingie. SO GOOD. :) I love asparagus and this was in the produce aisle, so fresh asparagus but had a like, lump, of a "Hollondaise" sauce that melts as you cook it in the microwave and it cooks the asparagus perfectly in the bag. If you see this in your market, it is a bit expensive, but give it a try!!! My DH was not feeling it, he though the sauce was too buttery (? he's feeling sick so food is not normal tasting right now ither...), so I ate his as well... only 24 calories per serving, 3 servings in the bag, I ended up eating about 2.5 servings. :)

emoticon Just wanted a new emoticon so that anyone wanting to skip the food can know all is well. :D HAHAHAHA.

I plan to go to the library today during lunch - YAY!

I finished "In Defense of Food" and I highly recommend it. It's a little... over the top I guess sometimes, or pompous, but definitely worth reading. Some good information and I like the food recommendations.

So this weekend I have planned:

LONG run tomorrow. Longer than before. Definitely partially on campus since it's a home game and it'll be fun to run around everyone tailgating. :)

Maybe farmer's market finally?

Football watching.

T-Shirt Quilt finishing.

Movie watching?
