Day Off

So when it came to 9AM, the time I was going to get up and go run, I was wayyyyy too tired. So I decided today will be my off day. I will have plenty of time to hit the gym realllllly good tomorrow like I did last Saturday. :) So I'm excited for that.

Need to get running again, though. I really do want to do that 10K coming up in a few weeks and I don't wanna do it completely cold. I think I have the ability to complete the distance, but I need to get back in the swing of running regularly before then. I did SO GOOD the week before I got sick with the running!!! And that just totally threw me for a loop, then it was raining constantly and I haven't gotten back to it since then.

    Wow, running a 10k? That is freakin awesome! I agree, taking a day off now and then is very beneficial. I, however, took too many days off this week, and did not meet my calories burned goal. It's the first time in quite a while. Next week I will be more determined, that's fer sher!

Keep on running, Dana! You are paving the way, setting the mark, leading the pack. Born leader, you are! You rock!

    Taking some "days off" isn't bad as long as ya get back into it :) I am right now taking a day or 2 off only because my mom is here from CA so were out a lot and i figure why not :)

    The run will go great... Just let yourself ease into the long distance again... maybe do like me and run 14 mins, walk 1 min. I find it much easier to break a long run into 15 min segments.

You know what I mean... anyway.

Last night we went out to eat with my FIL and SIL and we went to California Pizza Kitchen -- I don't think I've ever been to one believe it or not!!! Anyway... I got a Pizza... and ate all but one slice of it... AND a dessert. It was so good. Definitely WAYYYYYYYY too much food.

I need to try to give away more of my food when I eat because if it's on my plate I EAT IT. :P But it was definitely delicious -- I got the Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza on Honey Wheat Crust and it was just wonderful. Cheat meal this week -DONE. Now I just have to be a good girl all through the weekend. :) hehehehe.

Yesterday I did the Masala Bhangra workoute Volume 3 - Bollywood Style. It was SOOOOO FUN as usual. :) Had me really huffing and puffing and sweating by the end of it FOR SURE.

Today was another Jillian Michaels video. I think I might try to run tomorow morning - I haven't run since last Saturday, last week I ran twice but both times were indoors. It's been raining like crazy here (thanks Fay!) so it's been very difficult to find a time to run outside. I think by this point I'm starting to actually miss it. :) So I'm going to make an effort to do that tomorrow morning. I have to be at work by 11 anyway, so I might as well get up earlier. Especially since I have to work Saturday 6:30-11AM. wheeeee.

Then I'll do something on Saturday after work... yeah. Take Sunday off and kick off next week -- the REALLLL mMTC time. :) HAHAHAHAHA

Still no word on the auditions -- I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't find anything out until the first rehearsal which is a week from Monday. (I'm working Monday, too -- whoopeeeee.)

    Mmmm. Pizza. I had pizza last week and it was good, but that pear gorgonzola sounds outrageous. I also have a splurge once a week, either a meal or dessert. I think it is fine and it obviously hasn't hindered our loss.

That Bollywood vid sounds FUN! I have to check that out..

    Hi,

I think it's good to have one day where you can relax the rules a bit (got to live a little). Especially since you've been living this lifestyle for a while now and are mentally prepped not to let it turn into two, three + days of slacking off.

You worked out to a Bhangra DVD?!? Ha, excellent - as a guy of Indian origin the moves are genetically ingrained in me (whether I want them or not!). Didya have to do the 'change the lightbulb' move or the 'bounce your shoulders with your hands in the air' (and wave them like you just don't care!) moves? I love that you can workout to them now.

    I am a firm believer in a splurge once per week! I think it actually does us good - mentally, spiritually, even physically - to know we can have those baddies from time to time. Helps us resist the other times. :)

PHWEW. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Guess I was more nervous about that audition than I anticipated. HAHAHA. My hands were literally shaking while I was playing... but it went well. It wasn't flawless (*GRRRRRRR*) but it was good. I sounded great!!! :D The audition was in the Concert Hall so I got to stand on stage and really fill the room, which was awesome!!! My attacks were not all clean on my notes, but I didn't make any real mistakes or anything, it just wasn't as good as I wanted to be. Also the first portion of the piece I chose lasts about a minute, if I play the entire thing it's probably between 2-3 minutes. The audition required a 1-2 minute solo. So after the first portion I asked if he wanted me to continue (there was a page turn and all that good stuff) and he said that was enough for him so there was no need. The only thing is that the first portion has less technical bits, mostly it's just GORGEOUS. :) So hopefully the gorgeous factor is ok. I just wonder if I should have picked something that demonstrates my technical ability better, but maybe he was able to see that with my scale.

ANYWAY. ENOUGH MUSIC RAMBLING. I don't know when I'll know any results of it -- like I said it's not to GET IN, it's a community band, everyone gets in, it's just for part placement. But I haven't heard anything yet -- they might just wait and let everyone know at the first rehearsal.

After the audition (which lasted all of 2 minutes), I went over to the gym and waited for the Let's Dance! class. The brilliant ladies at the counter had no clue they even had this class, so couldn't fill me in on WHAT it was supposed to be like... but we danced to Beyonce (Get Me Bodied), and it was freaking awesome. Loved the teachers, loved the dance, and I felt like I really got a workout by the end of it, so WOOHOO on that front. It was an hour long class, with a brief warm up and cool down.

I wish I could go to it every week. The teachers said they were wanting to do a routine to Ciara's Like A Boy, but there were too many people to do a chair routine. Everyone was like NO!!!!!! We all wanted to do a chair routine. :) HAHAHA. But the room was WAYYYYY too full.

This morning I did Jillian Michael's Maximize: Front routine... or something like that. Anyway -- it was aimed at the PUSHING muscles. And it was tough. When it was over I was like -- really? PHWEW. HALLELUJAH. HAHAHAHAA :D

She had us doing this Standing Mountain Climbers thing that was kinda weird. It was like high knees combined with an alternating shoulder press-like motion kinda? With dumbbells? Also jumping jacks with shoulder presses -- never done that one before. It was fun. I'm sure I'm going to be sore tomorrow. :)

    You would be surprised to know that I have a BA (music) degree and when I'm not kicking ass at the gym, I'm teaching piano.

How did you like the beets? I got a bunch of golden and a bunch of red beets, both with tons of greens for dinner tonight!

    Great job on the audition! I can't wait to hear the results too. Gosh, you make me want to join our community band too but I seriously don't have the time right now. I'll live through you for the time being. lol!

I had my dance class last night at the gym...I'm so addicted! I wish you could go every week. Our gym has it twice a week so I try to go on Friday's too when I can can.

That Jillian workout...ouch! Sounds like an awesome one!

    Sounds like you had a good day, that's awesome! I'm glad the audition went well, I'm sure you'll do great. I get the feeling you're a perfectionist, lol, I guess that's good when it comes to your music, especially since trombone is the one instrument where it's visibly obvious who out of a group played the wrong note. It's pretty fun to watch a line of trombone players who are all in sync though, the slides all moving together like that, lol. I miss band...

    Oh, how I itch to exercise! While I CAN wait, I CAN'T wait for that recovery period following my c-section that will allow me to get started again! The dance class sounds WAY cool.

I'm glad your audition went well!! I'd have been beyond nervous - I always hated piano recitals, or even playing piano! in front of people because of nerves....I didn't feel that way in Marching Band as much. :) Hope you hear soon!

Maintenance - 1 month and counting

WOOHOO!!! ONE MONTH DOWN!!!

Granted, today I'm at the top of my range but I have an understanding of why.

Last week I did NOT adjust my calories down for my lower level of activity, neither did I while I was sick the week before.

I only worked out 3 days last week, not 4, although they were all at the end of the week practically. Wed/Thurs/Sat.

I ate my weekly splurge meal yesterday.

SO! This week is back on track FO REAL, I'm not feeling the least bit sick anymore, and I have a great plan for the week, including bringing back Making the Cut MODIFIED version, so that's exciting as well. I will keep this maintenance thing GOING.

Today is my audition so wish me luck. :) I practiced yesterday (which if I'm gonna be a loser I could count that as another workout, and in that case I "worked out" every day last week in some way or another, but I don't consider that a workout -- just bonus calorie burn...) for the first time this time around without my practice mute in.

I have this nifty contraption that is a combination of a silent practice mute and TECHNOLOGY. It has a pickup mic inside the mute, and a little box that you plug the input from the mic into and headphones into that somehow transforms the sound into NORMAL. :) hahaha. Because without the headphones it sounds like some faint whiny sounds. But with the magic box it sounds prettttyy normal. BUT!!!!

It's so heavy, and slightly resists the air flow so it's a little more difficult to play with it in. So yesterday I practiced without it and it sounded GREAT. I just hope I don't flub anything from lack of practice. I know my sound is still there... and the reflexes are there... just gotta be confident and do it.

So I'm working 8-5 today instead of my usual 1-10PM, because my audition is at 6:30 and I didn't want to leave too little time due to it being a high traffic time of day. The great thing is that if I make good time I might squeeze a workout in before. OR. I'll go after. Maybe hit up a dance class. :D I'll have to check the schedule at the gym. But my audition is on campus, and I go to the university rec center so that is very convenient.

Hmm... there's a 7:30-8:30 class called "Let's Dance!" And I have NO IDEA what that would be... hahahaha. Hip Hop isn't until 8:45. Which is less convenient after a 6:30 audition. We'll see. I figure I'll most likely head over AFTER my audition and I'll ask someone what that class is, and then decide my workout destiny. :)

AND YES WISH ME LUCK PLEASE!

Edited to add: MTC starting 9/1, not this week. I'm crazy. But I will be doing the Jillian videos on my Roku instead as a prep. :) YEP!

    lol! You just reminded me of my Junior jury (which decides if they like the music you chose for your recital)...I played a Mozart piano sonata. (Can't remember which one right now) but I was so nervous. To overcome the nerves and so my hands wouldn't shake, I just decided to go for it and give it my all. I did great but the funniest critique that I got was that it wasn't the right style. I played Mozart too loudly and more like Beethoven. Whoops...oh well.

Anyway, I love your blogs about music...takes me right back. Plus it's nice to not always be thinking about working out. loL!

    Wow, now I'm impressed. On days that contain special extras like auditions or meetings, I just use those as excuses for not going to the gym. But here you are, auditioning, and then skippin' on over to get in a dance class! You're a marvel.
I lost another pound last week. I'm actually starting to look forward to Sundays-- for weighing in!
and ok- you'll have to fill me in. U play the trumpet or something? I'm a recovering theatre geek- have spent most of my life doing community theatre, but has been a couple years since I've done anything. emoticon

The Drama Just Don't Stop!

Well...

So much drama at work yesterday... and again today... and all week really.

It's been a bunch of nonsense.

But today is FRIDAY FINALLY! WOOHOO! :D And I don't work this weekend, so yay.

Slept in too late to workout this morning, but when I got up my muscles were nicely sore from yesterdays workout. :D What a wonderful feeling! I've been missing that! Still gonna get in that trombone practice today, though, which I have been tracking on my cardio tracker. :P If I workout tomorrow and Sunday, that'll be 4 workouts this week, and that's a good week, right? I do NOt want to get in the habit of working out less than that.

This maintenance thing is tricky. If I start letting myself skip workouts all the time I know it's possible for me to slip into old habits.

    Shooting for at least four a week sounds like a good goal. Currently I'm trying to build myself up so I plan on working out every day, I generally miss a few each week but with that plan in mind I falter less than I would if I planned to only do four a week. I would just procrastinate and say to myself, ah I can do my four the last four days of the week and bum around for the first three, then those days would come and I would probably not feel like doing it either, lol.

    Enjoy your weekend and follow the hotcrotches advice! And yes, do not go lower than four workouts. I think with stress at work you need the workouts to help relieve your brain and body from the bad energy Now take a deep breathhhhh and releassssssse.

    Ugh...work drama is the worst. Especially at the end of the week when you get to think about it all weekend. I have a solution though...a good one. Just think of the word "Horcrotches**" and then you'll want to start laughing your head off uncontrollably.
