Calorie Deficit Tracking...

.... yes I think I'm gonna be one of THOSE.

So I've resisted it and resisted it... but... I'm really curious. I'm going to do this for one week and see how I like tracking it, or at least to see what it's like for one week.

The lovely SKYFYRE left a comment on CAROL_HOORAH's SparkPage with the formulas in it (that she got from SMURFETTE0725's Blog) {look at all these sparkers helping each other out} and anyway, I recalculated my BMR again and I'm going to track my BURN - CONSUMPTION for a week.

According to this formula and my current weight, my BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate) is 1633.5. (We'll round up to 1634)

SO! Each day I will add my calories burned through excercise to THAT and then SUBTRACT from that my calories CONSUMED through FOOD. If the result is positive -- HOORAH!!! I burned more than I consumed! If the result is negative... ouch. I ate more than I burned.

One lb is 3500 calories. At this point, 1lb in a week is a good pace for me to continue to lose I think. Anything more is just icing on the cake. ;)

5/12 - 1634+280(circuit training) - 1125 (sofar) = 789.

According to the top of my cal range on SP, I have about 425 calories left available to consume without going over. If I use ALL OF THOSE, then I will be left with a deficit of only (789-425) 364. If I achieve a deficit of 364 for 7 days... thats....2548. About 1000calories shy of the 1lb a week goal.

SO! Just to kinda get things in perspective for my little experiment -- a 500 calorie average deficit per day is ideal to achieve a 3500 calorie deficit for the week. To achieve a 500 calorie deficit today, my dinner would have to be 289 calories total. Smaller than what I normally eat for dinner, but I ate a LOT this morning. I usually finish breakfast and lunch combined between 700-900 calories. I also ate lunch late today, almost 2 hours later than usual... so I'm not going to be starving when I get home which will help. :)

I'm thinking Tilapia tonight maybe? We'll see. I'm looking forward to crunching some numbers. :D hehehe.

    Yay! I did this the other day to see how many calories were coming in and how many were being burned. It motivated me to do a little bit more cardio just to burn the extra calories!

I've never done my BMR, but I think it would be worth it. I think I'll visit those pages you mentioned and get that formula.

This sounds like a great thing. You'll have to keep us updated!

    That's just a LOT of numbers....and formulas! Reminds me of Algebra. *shudder* Hey as long as it works for you, go for it!! It would just make me cry...lol!!

Although tilapia for dinner sounds yum! :P

    Yes, it is helpful to see the cold hard numbers. I tracked this deficit a bit last week - it really opens your eyes to see why you are (or aren't) losing.

Today I kept thinking about chekcing out the iPod/BPM thingy that you blogged about... I'm really enjoying running without music right now, but I'm sure I'll need it sooner or later, so I'm going to check it out soon. Another example of sparkers helping sparkers! hehe.

My patience has been rewarded! :) Yesterday I felt GOOD. WOOHOOO!!!!!

No sniffles, very little congestion at ALL, and today I'm feeling like at LEAST 95%. :D I did Shred Level One this morning to kickstart the week in a positive way, and plan to swim and bike tomorrow.

Yesterday was a momentous occasion for me -- first time firmly below 175, and achieved my first body fat % goal!!! WOOHOO!! :)

I weighed in at 172.2 yesterday, and 23% body fat EVEN.

SO! I've set a new body fat % goal of 20%.

I had my one cheat meal of the week and still I'm down to that. This morning it was the same, so I'm feeling confident.

We saw Speed Racer this weekend and loved it. :) I know the reviews are horrible, but I think they just can't handle it. ;) HEHEHE. Then we went to this great mexican food place and I ate too much food for one meal, but nothing horrible -- no sour cream, only a little guacamole... and I was so full that my full day food profile consisted of a healthy breakfast, snack, and that cheat meal and I was DONE. Full for the rest of the day.

This morning I got off to a big start though. ;) hahahaha. But I'm feeling good and very optimistic for getting back in the gym this week. YAY! And building some MUSCLE. I really want that to be my focus now. I'm still doing a lot of cardio with the tri-training, but I definitely want to make sure I'm not slacking at ALL on the strength training. Gotta get that body fat % down!!!

P.S. -- Something else I just remembered that I'm excited about. :) I went to find the farmers market on Saturday but alas -- it was not there. :( BUT!!! I did go by the library FINALLY and get a library card!!! I checked out some cooking books, including THE BREAD BIBLE. I am SO excited to start try baking some bread again with such a detailed and wonderful guide!!! I highly recommend it. I wanted to buy it but it was quite expensive -- so yay! I think I might still want to have a copy of my own, but at least I get to try it out first. ;) And today someone suggested a produce place for me to go to as well!

P.P.S. -- I found my official race time for the last 5K - 33:36! :D YAY!

    As much as we hate it, I have found that rest definitely does a body good. Your improvements in your 5Ks are fantastic. Next one I run I'll be looking over my shoulder for you hee hee.

... better enough to be at work.

I'm sniffling, still coughing a bit, but everything else feels MUCH better. Yesterday I drank TONS of water and peed a TON and ate and layed around all day. I watched almost all of season 4 project runway online. And new Australia's Next Top Model. And finished the day with America's Next Top Model before my DH came home. HAHAHHA.

The rest and fluids really did some good though, I could definitely tell a difference. But I'm not back to good yet, so I'm still taking it easy and drinking a ton of fluids, and eating when I want to eat, although I'm still tracking my calories.

Yesterday I wrote everything down on paper and ended up about 50cal over. Definitely a conscious choice to go slightly over, and I'm ok with it. This morning my weight as actually down a little bit -- and that was after eating breakfast. I think drinking all that water really helped the most out of anything, so I'm trying to keep chugging today. YAY WATER.

And it also seems I've been craving a lot of protein, but not a lot of heavy stuff either. Last night my DH was offering to stop at Sam's Club and bring home one of their take and bake pizzas, but I couldn't fathom eating something that greasy... we had baked chipotle tilapia instead. Easy to make, and light. And leftover cottage cheese pancakes... hahaha :D And I also had some pretzel sticks... and PB...

Eat eat eat is what my body was telling me. But I paced out throughout the day and kept the calories relatively in line eating "good" stuff. (I don't think 50 cal over is too bad.)

So anyway, that's the scoop. Thank you for all of the comments and sweet things when I was gone. :)

    I'm so glad you are feeling better!! Your body probably wants the protein to fight your illness. I don't know medically if that is how it works, but it sounds good. LOL Water is the best thing for you right now. Keep drinking! Water that is...

    Mmm...pancakes! Good girl on tracking everything but giving yourself permission to eat what you wanted. That's a good way to really tune into what your body wants.

I neglected to mention my good news.

I weighed in this morning at 175.2, good enough to change my ticker. So my new goal is 170. And at that point I will re-evaluate and see if I want to go lower.

Also my body fat % measured lower this morning as well -- 23.6% :) Getting closer to the 23% goal.

Also, I made those cottage cheese/egg white pancakes this morning from the "Eat Clean Diet Cookbook" and they're awesome. I had leftovers for breakfast this morning.

So, I knew I needed those days off... but this sucks.

So I'm kind of sick.

My throat is really sore and I feel all weak and achy and just BLAH. It was kind of sore yesterday when I woke up, but I felt ok otherwise... then it just got worse and worse all day. Sometimes my stomach is feeling totally nauseous and awful, too, but my I only feel better when I'm actually eating. Swallowing food somehow makes my throat feel somewhat better, but when I'm eating I'm not enjoying it much either.

It's awful. WAH!

I was so geared up to have another great excercise week like last week and now this! *sigh* I HATE how I feel lazy when I don't workout, no matter what the circumstances are. I know rationally that working out today would have been stupid, but it still gets on my nerves.

I'm at work because we are somewhat shortstaffed and I know they would cover for me but I think I can hang in there today and I'd rather not make them have to bend over backwards for me if they don't have to.

My job mostly consists of sitting at a computer anyway. I just hope I don't have to talk too much today and I'll be fine.
