So last night I altered the bottom of my swimsuit somewhat and this morning after work I hit the gym pool!

To be honest my "swim" sessions have really been more like, try to move through the water, get your face in the water, practice breathing, make somewhat arm stroke and kicking type motions... KNOWING full well that I wasn't doing it right AT ALL.

Today was my first time that for a few strokes I could feel like I was actually SWIMMING PROPERLY. I think. I'm no expert, but it felt good and a lot more effective at propulsion and like I was doing the right things.

Mostly I was doing maybe one thing kinda ok and everything else was going to you know where, but for a few moments I was like, HEY! I'm doing it!!! I think this is right! HAHAHAHAHA :D

So I figure if I can increase these moments, one day I might actually be a real swimmer! HURRAH!!! It was like my body had a couple of lightbulb moments today and it really is helping me feel a lot more optimistic about this swimming thing.

Also my alteration seemed to work -- the suit felt a lot more secure and I barely thought about it.

I also did 25 minutes on the bike and a bit of ST. Really, not very much, just a tiny bit. Things I can't do at home. Like wide lat pulldowns and seated cable rows and back extensions on a roman chair. I plan to do more tomorrow at home.

So... I measured my body fat on my scale today and I'm hoping it is just not measuring correctly because it said like 30%+ which is somewhat disturbing, considering my last measurement was 24.1%. Although I have to admit, the circumstances were different than they usually are when I measure it. I wonder if EITHER of those is accurate. I used a body fat estimation calculator someone pointed to that said I was 24.2% based on various measurements.... so I'm hoping the lower one is more accurate.

Also I might be running another 5K a week from today! :D This very nice woman at my work asked me if I was running any of the upcoming races and I told her no, that I was waiting a while since I just did one and my DH is kind of like "Why are we PAYING MONEY for you to run?" hahhahaha, but anyway she suggested we do this one together so I mentioned it today and he just asked how much it was and when but didn't really answer... so we'll see. :D It would be nice to do one again soon instead of waiting as long as I did last time.

WELL! I'm off!! I have this urge to get a library card, but I don't know if that will happen today or not, just something that came to me on my way home today. Later everyone!

    Swimming sounds like so much fun! When I go with the kids, all I get to do is make sure nobody drowns. I usually sand in the shallow, and hold a baby. Not much of a workout there. I grew up with a pool, and love to swim. Wish I could go and actually swim like you. And I wish I needed to alter my swim suit! Even if you don't think your form is up to speed, swimming is great for you. You probably burn more calories when you are swimming "off" because you are making yourself less streamlined in the water. So, just pretend it is on purpose until you get the hang of things better.

    omg, your haircut is adorable!! In a weird way, it makes you look even skinnier in your pics! Anyway, as usual, thanks for stopping by my blog, and keep up the swimming. It for me is the most pleasurable form of exercise. When Santosh moved in with me (I have a pool where I live), we did a lot of swimming, but it was then that I realized that he was pretty much a NON swimmer. Scared me to death. I worked with him all summer, and we're getting close, weather-wise, to swimming season again. He's really into getting to where he can crawl-stroke from one end of the pool to the other, so we'll be doing our pool thing too!

    I'm not a coordinated swimmer either but it sounds like you are doing well. And yes, if you really want to swim in a suit, it sometimes takes some adjustment. If you just want to look cute, that's another thing entirely.

Update Reminder - 6 Week Goal

I set a goal March 28th to be at 175 6 weeks from that date -- which I have just calculated means to be at 175 by May 9th. I kind of forgot I set that goal, but I am excited to see that I will probably hit it! :D

I'm not sure how feasible a large reward will be for that financially, so I'm going to have to ponder on something small to reward myself once I hit 175. :)

    SWEET!!! You go girl!! Everyone else has awesome ideas for rewards...wish I could think of some. Maybe a nice drive...course with gas prices, that's not cheap anymore. A nice picnic at a partk somewhere for you and hubby? Maybe there's a free concert or something going on? Either way, congrats...I know you will reach your goal! You're one of the most determined people I know!!

    Congrats on being so close to your goal. I do really small rewards like buying myself some new flowers to plant. painting my nails, having a bubble bath...Hardly any cost in those. You'll think of something good.

    How wonderful! I'm not sure what kind of finances you have to play with, but perhaps you could treat yourself to a day at the spa, or tickets to a concert, or a weekend away with DH some place romantic. ... And if those aren't possibilities, perhaps DH would be willing to plan a budget evening of romance and celebration, or your family could do a celebration get together.

I sure whatever you choose will be cool, but not as cool as waking up every day feeling fab!

    I'm always fascinated by the reward for making a goal thing no matter if the reward is large or small. I have never done that. I think I have some serious scruitinizing to do because I just realized that I don't reward myself because I never have felt that what I've accomplished SO FAR is worthy of reward. Hmmm....

So...... a confession. I was scared mapmyrun.com was being too generous with me in my recent pace improvements. I was like, maybe I clicked too far on the map? Hahaha! So anyway, today I did my run indoors around a measured track and pushed myself just a little to make sure I didn't slip into a slower pace, and finished 2 miles in JUST under 21 minutes! :D So that's a pace of right about 10.5min per mile! WOOHOO!!!

I am very excited about that. I would normally try to run longer than that, but I'm trying not to push myself to do too much and burnout. I did hop on a bike for a grand total of 10 minutes (including cooldown) after my run just to kinda do that motion for a while.

I'm burning far fewer calories per week right now than I'm used to burning -- BUT I'm working on some excercises that I'm completely not used to doing so it feels harder to get the same benefit... kinda funny how that works. I mean those 10 minutes on the bike today were kinda rough coming right after that run -- but then again, if I DO a triathlon one day I'm going to be swimmingbikingrunning all in a row, so I will have to be prepared to perform when my muscles are fatigued -- or build up my endurance so high I don't GET fatigued. (HA HA HA.)

So anyway -- I'm going to stick with the program and I know my calories are reduced so I'm not going to gain, but I have to be prepared that things might be slow going while I am building technique and skill in certain types of excercise (*ahem* SWIMMING *ahem*) so that I can really enjoy a full excercise benefit of this stuff later.

I don't want to give up on it because I'm not getting the calorie burn I want, and I also don't want to try to add more excercise on top of it and REALLY burn myself out, so I'm just going to stick with it.

    HOMG! That is awesome! Soon enough you'll be talking about the triathlon you've done...lol! You go girl...always my inspiration to push myself further and faster (why did that just remind me of the Six Million Dollar Man??! Oh craps...70's flashback!!! LOL). Go Dana!!!

    GREAT time on that run and then to do the bike too...you are rockin and good idea to not worry about 'slowing' the calories burned ( for now) * TWEAK food choices to get the best nutrition for your decreased calories...take a multi-vitamin ( if you aren't already) ....watch portions and keep movin to keep losin...you are doing AMAZING!!!!

    Sounds like you're attacking this the right way! You know that you're burning less calories, for now... hehe, that's right - soon you'll be motoring through the miles in the pool, on the bike and on the road and you'll need to up your calories again! Just keep track of where you're at and it will all come together!

    I think you are doing great. If you go for that extra calorie burn, you will most likely burn yourself out and be forced to take a break for awhile and will be burning FAR LESS calories then!! Listen to your body and do what it tells you it can do.

Well... last night it was all I could do to slump into the house and lay around like a slug.

I was going to take a nap but when I went in the bedroom to lay down I turned on VH1 and they were having a Rock of Love II marathon followed by the finale, and there was a girl I liked on there that I was rooting for (that won! YAY!), so I got sucked in.

It did feel good to "rest", but I did no ST, and this morning I was still feeling tired because I didn't nap so I didn't run either.

BUT! I did ST this morning. Tomorrow maybe a short run followed by bike stuff. I have just been feeling so tired lately, but I do feel better when I do something active -- it's just hard to get that desire like I normally have.

    I felt the same yesterday. Went to bed with a headache. I think it was sinuses. Maybe you need to plan a little more rest into your routine. If it is on purpose, you won't let it get you down. I give myself a day a week to chose to skip my work out. I chose the day based on what my body is telling me. If I don't need it , I try to do a workout that is different from my plan-like taking the kids hiking.

    It sounds to me like your body is not so secretly telling you that it wants to rest. Listen to it sweetie and don't give yourself a hard time over it. Don't go crazy on calories though either. lol! Maybe you can find a new healthy recipe to try so you feel successful at something good you're doing for your body?

... a "rest" day. *Ahhhhhh*! :D

It's a cardio off day, but I will be doing some strength training at home -- but today is the glorious "off at 4PM, don't return to work until 1PM the next day" day. So I will be doing some Strength Training tonight after I go home from work, a little tidying, but mostly RESTING. WONDERFUL DAY! :D hahahaha.

Yesterday I DID go to the gym despite almost talking myself out of it to swim and bike, and then grocery shopped, and then band rehearsal. It was a busy busy evening. BUT! By getting it all done yesterday, I have time today. YAY.

    wooohoooo enjoy your day off! I just saw your msg now about being careful not to push myself too hard... duntcha you worry girl! lol I try to really listen to my body, I don't ignore what it's saying lol just yesterday when I ran I wanted to do 5K but my body didn't so I only did 3... today I did a glorious 6K though woot woot!
