Just got back from running...

... and MAN running with boys kicks my butt!

HAHAHA.

No where near what some other ladies who regularly run with dudes do, but I was the only chick today. I was running on my own out about 8 min and back 10 when I ran into the 2 guys who also help lead c25K work running groups, so I turned around and tried not to rush up behind them but ended up behind them anyway.

Then we were coming up on someone so I sped up to pass them and I guess they took that as a sign to book it to the end of the trail so I was chasing them trying not to let them smoke me and got down to a 7:44 min mile pace for a few seconds there! (YAY Garmin for making me feel good with a pace I can sustain for just a few seconds - hahaha)

Then I managed to slightly turn my ankle walking to my car to get some water (DOH) so I walked it off/shook it out a bit until C25K'ers showed up.

So the people that came were:

1) dude that was barely beginning workout regimen and planned to do a mostly walking workout and
2) dude that was returning to running after a brief layoff before which he was: military running every day 3-5 miles, XC and Track HS-er

So.... I ended up running with #2 and the other guys mostly walked with #1. #2 was trying to kill me I think - honestly we weren't running that fast in the grand scheme of things, but left to my own devices I fall somewhere between 11-12 min mile on a good day, and more like 13-14 on a super easy LONG or bad day.

We were averaging around 10:39 for the whole run -time. We ran out 10 min, took a 2 min breather, and then back 10 min . At one point he was egging me on to pass someone and when we did I got down to sub 8mm pace again for a few seconds. That turkey!

Anyway - covered about 4 miles today, MOST of it running - only about 5min total walking time, so I'm pretty happy with that - I'm gonna definitely be taking it easier on Wednesday!

I also ran 20min yesterday for the first time straight.

After workout today - I did Freestyle Trainer - just a bit. 2 sets each of chest presses and rows to hit front and backside upper body, then one set per leg of single leg squats and one set regular ( all assisted w/ the straps). With the squats it's more of a, go deep backward like you should w/out worrying about falling over cause you can always lean on the straps if you need to but don't if you don't have to kind of thing. Single leg definitely needs more assistance for me than that, but regular I was mostly on my own like I should be. Just waiting to take a shower now. :)

    Go Girl on the running!! Fantastic Effort and Accomplishment!! I find running with boys the same way, I will want to pace myself but then they get so uppity and competitive that I end up trying to keep up Lol! Well, it sounds like a fun time, actually, and I am glad that your ankle is fine and dandy after all that!

    I hear ya! My husband and I have been doing C25K together and it's a struggle to stay by his side (I'm sure it's hard for him to stay by mine, too haha). I know that, without him, I wouldn't finish nearly as fast. Heck, I may even have given up by now, but instead we finished our unofficial 5K yesterday in under 28 minutes. I'm grateful to have him pushing me on!

    WHOOOHOOO! Sounds like an awesome run! And it sounds like all of your parts were holding up!

Boys can be so weird about girls passing them. I was running a HM in October and I guess I passed some guy early on. Much later, as he passed me, he tapped me on the shoulder and made some snarky comment. I was like, "oh, a$$hole much?!"

Anyway, sounds like a great workout!

    Nothing like running with boys to up the pace! I did eight miles with the husb on Sat at a 8:50 pace, something I feel like I could never sustain on my own. It's great that it pushed you! Glad no injuries though. :D

I've been tracking everyday, went over by like... 12 calories yesterday, so I'm calling that a win.

I turned down cookies.

I gave myself the first afterdinner treat this week - 1/2 serving of Ben and Jerry's that my MIL bought specifically for me! I tried a new unique method - I put the whole thing on the scale and weighed it, and then I figured out what it would weigh at 50g less (about 1/2 serving size) and ate it until it got to that weight. HAHAHA. No muss no fuss.

Turned down an offer to split a pizza from this AMAZING pizza place for lunch - my DH and I might want to do some splurging of our own this weekend so I'm saving it for him.

I didn't do ST last night because he emailed me saying how he was looking forward to seeing me before I went to band. :) awwww how could I turn that down? He didn't know I planned to go to the gym, and I didn't tell him because I didn't want him to feel bad. It was very nice - I manged to shower and make and eat dinner before heading to rehearsal and it made rehearsal very enjoyable! I may not do that every week, depends how fitting in my 2nd ST workout of the week goes today or tomorrow. I'm thinking I might just go do a Freestyle Trainer workout again after my run today vs. going to the gym this week.

2 full body workouts = good enough for me!

Still Moving Along...

Soooo tonight is a NON LATE NIGHT YAY - hooping&zumba very soon, and then straight home.

We've been having awkward living arrangements due to some work being done in the house and as of last night we're back in our room! YAY! In our bed! YAY! With (almost) all our stuff back there! YAY! hahaha. So that is nice.

I'm tracking right now again, trying to really stay on track - I need the food tracking I think.

Yesterday I stayed home from work to help with the moving our stuff around, but I still headed to the park to meet the running group for C25K and had a lovely run, including a SPRINT TO THE FINISH! I noticed those ahead of me had a much faster turnover - do you know how HARD IT IS to make all the legs of this 6'2" frame turn over fast??? hahahaha my stride got nice and open, but my legs just weren't pumping as fast as I would've liked. Still it was overall a good run AND I headed to the other end of the park as planned and did a little ST w/ my freestyle trainer straps. WOOT!

I am feeling the burn today - wasn't quite really a big full body workout, but I had somewhere to be afterward (which usually isn't the case on Mondays) so I kept it to some upper body exercises and one set of single leg reverse lunge squat thingies. Well I definitely am feeling it un the upper body areas I worked, and my butt, and from the painting I did last weekend in the house my inner thighs got SUPER sore and my hip flexors somehow are sore a touch, maybe from the sprinting yesterday, in any case- loving it.

Can't wait to hit the weights Thursday night. :)

    I've been focusing on cadence while running--my training program has me working with a ChiRunning instructor, AWESOMEEEE!--and like everything else with running, it's been a gradual shift. I actually run sometimes with a pocket metronome to help me focus on that!

    I've sped up my turn over by shortening my stride...more of a Chi running type deal I guess...It seems to be helping as I've also sped!

    I hate sore hipflexors-I realized I hate soreness.. with some exceptions, because I go on auto-injury pilot.

... twice this week.

Good for me I didn't double up calories by ALSO eating my normal healthy dinner - do I get points for that?

My other food has been pretty on point but I have really let the shark week voices and stress talk me into some poor quality food at times this week. Just tracked last night and looks like I was about 100 calories over range.

I was also about 100 over the day before. I think Tuesday I didn't track, but also ate dessert for dinner instead of real food.

I still haven't incorporated Strength Training into my routine. I'm trying to think of a foolproof plan that will let me do full body at once and I'm thinking maybe just 2x a week full body ST? Monday and Thursday?

Thursday can be at the gym between work stuff and Gospel Group. I've been trying going home between and it was nice one week but this week I ended up staying home. Probably good for me, it was a good emotional recharge to spend some fun hang out time with DH. I was thinking to try to make sure I'm not adding extra time EVERY day of the week - so like Tuesday I get to go home earlier (home around 7) and also Friday get home a little earlier (same) then I maybe will feel more motivated about the days that I'm out doing things more, longer. If I wasn't out so late with band two nights a week, I'd consider doing ST in the morning, cardio after work - but I think it's unrealistic for me to plan waking up earlier. I don't think I would do it.

So! Monday after running, ST in the park w/ my Freestyle Trainer Straps.
Thursday after Zumba, ST at the gym w/ weights and whatnot.

I think accomplishing the goal of regular strength training will REALLY give me a boost. I was discussing with a co-worker yesterday how AWESOME Making the Cut is and I was thinking longingly of those workouts, believe it or not. HAHAHA. How they hurt so bad, but felt so good... I miss that I used to push myself that hard in the ST arena. New Rules of Lifting for Women, for example.

I also love how great I felt on Saturday after aquajogging and then yoga - I will definitely be continuing that! Probably eventually transitioning to road running, but we'll see.

    One of my biggest struggles is balancing my workouts with my BF time, esp. since I spend so much time at work. I know you'll find a routine that works!

    I will have to check out Making the Cut..I keep hearing great things about it...the good thing with ST-ing is you can get a way with eating more ice cream cals! I am slowly getting back into ST-ing hard core again..its a slow process but I am excited for you to do it as well..You wont regret it!!!!

    I do ST once per week full body and then once or twice per week mainly lower body with some upper body--- lately, I've kept it loosey goosey, which normally is not good...but with all the ailments, my muscles needed extra rest, you know?

I like sneaking extra ST in... like a set of push-ups before bed etc... a random set of dips etc. It works for me and I also do once per week, sometimes twice... more of a core/Pilates, leg circles type routine, to strengthen the smaller muscle groups. That's another reason why I justify less with more focus on my problem areas- eg, weak hips etc.

My point is--- maybe a plan is too much to start with, but starting with something is going to make all the difference, you know?

    Can i get an AMEN for the second to last paragraph. That's all me right there. I need to ST again. It makes me feel so good. I remember when i was doing MTC and kicking butt in the gym. Now my butt is a little too jiggly! Confession- i had ice cream for snack yesterday and the day before. Mint chocolate chip and i added m&ms to it. Fat kid moment!! ;)

    right now i a am doing st full body 2x per week. i like it so i suggest it! although icecream for dinner is not the best choice at least you didn't double up and eat dinner too. it is all about balance. (i am trying to justify the popcorn i will have for dinner tomorrow night at the movies lol). nrol4w like tha above poster does suggest 3-4x per week but it is full body so you could do it 2x. i like jillian's push/pull method better though. maybe you could do jillian style circuits a couple of times per week?

NEW SPARK TROPHY!

I've been waiting for this trophy for a long time - 40,000 sparkpoints reached today. :) WOOHOO!

It's finally the gorgeous SILVER trophy. Of course, now I have more to reach for - the gold and then whatever those montage trophies are at the top.

Running was sooooooo great yesterday for me - my poor C25K'ers are some getting injured or having a hard time keeping up with the program (I don't think they're doing 3 workouts a week all of them so I dunno if I should keep moving forward with what workout I'm leading), but some are doing well so I don't want to lag behind either - it's a dilemma, but I'm trying to do my best to enjourage those with pain not to push to hard and to rest and recover any injuries before starting to run again, and to pick back up slowly.

Tonight I've got hooping, zumba, and then Gospel Band Group thingie. New choreo tonight for a couple of songs maybe - I might just do one of them, not sure yet - I might want to save the other new one for a rainy day. :) I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WEEKEND!

    Yay for the new trophy! I don't think the slower ones would mind if you went ahead. I'm extremely slow compared to the 5k people I train with (they've all done 5ks before and some have even done marathons) and simply knowing they are there...even if it's a distance ahead of me...still keeps me encouraged.
