Confession: I ate ice cream for dinner...

Friday, April 15, 2011

... twice this week.

Good for me I didn't double up calories by ALSO eating my normal healthy dinner - do I get points for that?

My other food has been pretty on point but I have really let the shark week voices and stress talk me into some poor quality food at times this week. Just tracked last night and looks like I was about 100 calories over range.

I was also about 100 over the day before. I think Tuesday I didn't track, but also ate dessert for dinner instead of real food.

I still haven't incorporated Strength Training into my routine. I'm trying to think of a foolproof plan that will let me do full body at once and I'm thinking maybe just 2x a week full body ST? Monday and Thursday?

Thursday can be at the gym between work stuff and Gospel Group. I've been trying going home between and it was nice one week but this week I ended up staying home. Probably good for me, it was a good emotional recharge to spend some fun hang out time with DH. I was thinking to try to make sure I'm not adding extra time EVERY day of the week - so like Tuesday I get to go home earlier (home around 7) and also Friday get home a little earlier (same) then I maybe will feel more motivated about the days that I'm out doing things more, longer. If I wasn't out so late with band two nights a week, I'd consider doing ST in the morning, cardio after work - but I think it's unrealistic for me to plan waking up earlier. I don't think I would do it.

So! Monday after running, ST in the park w/ my Freestyle Trainer Straps.
Thursday after Zumba, ST at the gym w/ weights and whatnot.

I think accomplishing the goal of regular strength training will REALLY give me a boost. I was discussing with a co-worker yesterday how AWESOME Making the Cut is and I was thinking longingly of those workouts, believe it or not. HAHAHA. How they hurt so bad, but felt so good... I miss that I used to push myself that hard in the ST arena. New Rules of Lifting for Women, for example.

I also love how great I felt on Saturday after aquajogging and then yoga - I will definitely be continuing that! Probably eventually transitioning to road running, but we'll see.

One of my biggest struggles is balancing my workouts with my BF time, esp. since I spend so much time at work. I know you'll find a routine that works!

Oh, and BTW, I had sesame balls TWICE this week! HA!

I will have to check out Making the Cut..I keep hearing great things about it...the good thing with ST-ing is you can get a way with eating more ice cream cals! I am slowly getting back into ST-ing hard core again..its a slow process but I am excited for you to do it as well..You wont regret it!!!!

I do ST once per week full body and then once or twice per week mainly lower body with some upper body--- lately, I've kept it loosey goosey, which normally is not good...but with all the ailments, my muscles needed extra rest, you know?

I like sneaking extra ST in... like a set of push-ups before bed etc... a random set of dips etc. It works for me and I also do once per week, sometimes twice... more of a core/Pilates, leg circles type routine, to strengthen the smaller muscle groups. That's another reason why I justify less with more focus on my problem areas- eg, weak hips etc.

My point is--- maybe a plan is too much to start with, but starting with something is going to make all the difference, you know?

Can i get an AMEN for the second to last paragraph. That's all me right there. I need to ST again. It makes me feel so good. I remember when i was doing MTC and kicking butt in the gym. Now my butt is a little too jiggly! Confession- i had ice cream for snack yesterday and the day before. Mint chocolate chip and i added m&ms to it. Fat kid moment!! ;)

right now i a am doing st full body 2x per week. i like it so i suggest it! although icecream for dinner is not the best choice at least you didn't double up and eat dinner too. it is all about balance. (i am trying to justify the popcorn i will have for dinner tomorrow night at the movies lol). nrol4w like tha above poster does suggest 3-4x per week but it is full body so you could do it 2x. i like jillian's push/pull method better though. maybe you could do jillian style circuits a couple of times per week?

I've been waiting for this trophy for a long time - 40,000 sparkpoints reached today. :) WOOHOO!

It's finally the gorgeous SILVER trophy. Of course, now I have more to reach for - the gold and then whatever those montage trophies are at the top.

Running was sooooooo great yesterday for me - my poor C25K'ers are some getting injured or having a hard time keeping up with the program (I don't think they're doing 3 workouts a week all of them so I dunno if I should keep moving forward with what workout I'm leading), but some are doing well so I don't want to lag behind either - it's a dilemma, but I'm trying to do my best to enjourage those with pain not to push to hard and to rest and recover any injuries before starting to run again, and to pick back up slowly.

Tonight I've got hooping, zumba, and then Gospel Band Group thingie. New choreo tonight for a couple of songs maybe - I might just do one of them, not sure yet - I might want to save the other new one for a rainy day. :) I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WEEKEND!

Yay for the new trophy! I don't think the slower ones would mind if you went ahead. I'm extremely slow compared to the 5k people I train with (they've all done 5ks before and some have even done marathons) and simply knowing they are there...even if it's a distance ahead of me...still keeps me encouraged.

Long Time, No Blog

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Monday I started out great on track, Tuesday also -but then my group went out to lunch to a Chinese Food Buffet.

I got some good stuff - sushi, and I made my order at the grill a plate FULL of veggies, and some meat, spicy sauce, and voila - delicious and super filling. I did also do one chinese donut, and 3 of those little sesame balls w/ red bean paste inside. and some fruit. But overall for a Chinese Food Buffet experience, I think I picked the best most top quality food and a tiny bit of splurge w/ the dessert type foods.

Then I was super full and didn't eat anything until later in the evening when I finally got hungry, my MIL had leftover lemon meringue pie and I had that and a scoop of ice cream for dinner. At least I didn't eat that AND regular food for additional calories - but it wasn't top quality choices.

Today will be on point! I have groceries.

Life is stressful right now - there are construction type things going on at home in the room we live in - so all our stuff is moved other places except the clothes hanging in my closet, and there is no bed in the rooms where our things are now. I'm sleeping on a bed in a random room and DH was taking a couch. Also personal family drama stress that does not need to be described in detail, but it's wearing on me. I can't wait for things to be a bit more normal.

I did have a good weekend for the most part - I DID go aquajog on Saturday morning and then go to Holley's yoga - SO AWESOME AS PER USUAL. That makes for the best day.

Monday night was C25K again and most people didn't go because of a threatening storm - but me and one of my running buddies from the group, Kim, went and it was GREAT! :) Awesome pre-storm weather, very few actual raindrops, and Kim is pretty naturally speedy so we got to go a little faster at times than we usually go with the entire group.

Yesterday's hula hoop and zumba were cancelled to go home and help out with the construction concerns and all that, but hula hoop will happen today at lunch and then running again after work. :)

OH and I just realized I haven't blogged since the run Friday night -

10 min straight running.
Feel fine.

YAY! :D I'm continuing to wear the strassburg sock, roll out my foot when needed, stretch every time, etc. - but hopefully I'm in re-injury prevention mode now.

Running Tonight!

Friday, April 08, 2011

Soooo happy I will get to run tonight - it's gonna probably just be me and my friend Ashley hoofin it - I am pretty stoked. I hope it feels as good as Wednesday did - I'm really looking forward to working up the time on these runs.

Tonight after my run, I will probably go pick up more hoop-making supplies. I've got 4 pre-orders so I am ready to start makin' em up!

Then tomorrow I will head to the gym in the morning to get in a good aquajog and then do yoga. Yoga is at 10:15, so I need to get to the gym around 9 I think. Then it will be hoop-making time!

Next week if the walk/run sessions are still going good, I'll either tack on some just running afterward, or trade out aquajogging on Saturday with some running and begin building that Saturday run. Not sure how I want to do things yet.

REGISTERED - Hooping & Zumba tonight

Thursday, April 07, 2011

So everyone loved the hoop+Zumba party from Tuesday so well that we're doing it again tonight. :) AND I get to teach my new choreo for Shakira's Rabiosa ft. Pitbull - look it up, great song. The Spanish version featuring Cata is great if Pitbull gets on your nerves. HAHA. Anyway - I'm excited for that. I'm not gonna lie, I looked at every Zumba video for this song online and grabbed what I liked from all of them and put it together with a little of my own input. Not that most Zumba routines have anything that is a 100% original creation, since we're all building with basic Zumba steps, but still. It didn't come all from my head. haha.

I AM working on coming up with a routine for Hips Don't Lie, though - I've got some preliminary stuff in my head and I think it will be AWESOME.

Sooo RUNNING - last night was AWESOME. Heel and achilles felt perfect! Nothing even during the walking intervals - which I was feeling a bit last week, if not anything I was worrying about it was there. If all goes well through next week - introducing 3min run intervals - I'm going to begin to add a little more solid running on my own to start building on. We'll see. Maybe after week 4. Or 5. I'm just going with it and taking it easy. I've got over 1.5 years to train for the REALLY BIG FREE MARATHON IN VEGAS, so I think I'll be able to achieve that. And like I said before, if not, I can downscale to the half.

ALSO MY SISTER REGISTERED!!!! :) I am so excited! That is truly the big scoop of ice cream and whipped topping on the slice of cake that will be uniting with some of my closest SparkFriends - and truly, some of my closest friends that have never physically met each other period. :) You know who you are! It is going to be fantstic! And to re-connect with a few that I got to spend only brief moments with in person when I was in San Diego or the bunny that came to visit. :) hehe. I am so excited I can't believe it's so far away now. Definitely gives me a big focus point for all of my fitness and running energies - to be fit and healthy for that event!

I stepped on the scale for the first time today after ... right after I was sick. I've not been tracking, just trying to eat mindfully and well, or to not eat too bad when scrounging remnants of groceries... and I'm in about the same place. A bit higher than last checked, but I also did NOT get enough sleep last night. I can tell especially because I'm extra hungry today! Trying to drink a lot of water and just get past it.

Last night something funny happened at band rehearsal - THE LIGHTS WENT OUT! It was PITCH BLACK. We were playing along in the middle of a song and then total blindness. Everyone stopped playing and I said, "I dunno what comes next, guys!" HAHA. It was funny. A couple of people had stand lights that we used to pack everything up and go. Then I walk outside and it's pitch black there as well. It was just so strange and funny - but I got to get home just a tad bit earlier than usual for Wednesday nights.

Tonight is Gospel Music Group, looking forward to that.

Thanks for the comment you made over on my blog!

Here's the smoothie recipe I used:

1 banana
1/2 avocado
1/2 c greek yogurt
1.5 TB vanilla flavored protein powder
1 ts cocoa powder
10 ice cubes
1/3 c water
a little Splenda or other sweetner if you want it

Throw it all in a blender and pulse: made over 2 cups of very thick creamy smoothie; 375 calories. Lots of protein and nutritional goodness. Feel free to play around with other flavors and ingredients, but I loved this combo!
