Ok so I left you guys hanging this weekend - so sorry! :D

Gotta go log some food today, ate out last night at the last minute, but didn't get anything too bad. A nice Tortilla Soup and side salad - minimal dressing added by me. Like 2-3 of Henry's fries and two tortilla chips w/ some toppings from my FIL's nachos. Then a serving of tortilla chips at home as well - seriously, it was not bad. Nice low salt multigrain tortilla chips at home and the toppings on my FIL's nachos were pretty light seeming - not too much meat or cheese, some beans in there, and lettuce, onions, tomatoes... yeah. Good stuff. He had jalapenos too but I scooted them off of the ones I took.

My LR on Saturday was... completed. HAHAHA :D It was rough - CLOVERR1 makes big talk about being slow but truth of the matter is she just trains slow most of the time, and counts the slow time on trails. Get her on a road w/ a couple of faster runner buddies, and she was OFF doign 8-10 miles of the run at a sub 10 min mile pace, absolutely smoking me. HAHAHAHA :D But she joined me for part of it -- at which point I was too drained to keep up with her fast power walk. Sorry girl! I should've let you stay with someone more entertaining!

The problem was - I went out way too fast. I could see I was getting left behind big time but I didn't want to be - I tried to catch up, then gave up on that and tried to stay close enough to see where everyone was turning, then gave up on that. At some point I settled on my normal long run pace I think, around 13mm - but at the 6 mile mark I was only at 1:14, which is an average of like 12:20 ish min miles, so I know I was booking it at first. The last 7+ miles were brutal therefore -- I walked a good chunk of it, but when I started getting closer to the finish, I picked it back up to running again.

It was fun finishing with people there -stretching w/ other runners and having aid stations for my run - seeing everyone on the way back saying good job, etc. - knowing we were all out there running the same route to train together. It wasn't quite the experience I imagined of taking on the run in a little pack of relaxed chatty running fun -- but I knew that wasn't necessarily realistic based on the fact that I am quite a lot slower than a lot of people. :) Maybe someday if I get faster or I go somewhere that has so many runners that there are a group as slow as me I'll get to experience something like that, but for now - I'M GOOD. I like running by myself for the most part.

So then Sunday was supposed to be "active recovery" day according to my new plan, but I didn't do that. I did resting recovery. Oh well. hahaha :D I planned on trying to run on Monday, but there was lightning and then I picked Zumba+Hooping+switching days over running in the rain last night.

So here's this week's revised plan:

TWR - 3-6-3 miles or something similar.
F - rest
Sat - LR w/ group - 16 miles? I dont' remember.
Sun - some recovery miles - 4-6?

Ideally I want my running plan to look like

MTW - 3-6-3 (gradually building these days throughout) - one day being hills OR speed intervals
R - REST!
F- Pace run - 6ish whatever, building throughout Higdonesque
S- Group Long Run
Su- Active Recovery - AKA light ST, yoga, hula hoop, whatever.

This also includes - Monday night gym night - Zumba/ST + Hula Hoop class, possible Wednesday Pilates, need to do some upper body ST BIG TIME. Thinking about developing a good at home program for this so I don't have to pack a gym bag constantly. Or just plan on heading to the gym JUST for ST on T-R nights? I dunno. I'm undecided. I have a friend on RW who is always rotating upperbody muscle groups and working a part every day pretty much, but always working something. Seems like that might be the most realistic way to fit in ST with such a packed schedule? I think if I have an actual plan I'll do it. Leaving it too open usually results in me doing nothing.

I'm running tonight vs. this morning - it was dark and foggy and cold. I'm getting a headlamp, which would have made me feel pretty comfortable about running in this, but without it it just seemed like a bad idea. Especially considering that this evening after work the weather is forecasted to be ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS AND PERFECT for running! :D So I'm planning to hit an easy 3 tonight, maybe I'll do it at the greenway and take my Freestyle Trainer Straps to get in some ST while I'm at it since 3 miles doesn't take very long. Maybe now that the weather is getting cooler outside I can talk my DH into coming with me after work sometimes during the week and I can do my straps at the park and we can hang out together. That'd be nice. :)

Waiting on a package: New shoes (Asics Gel-Kayano 15's), GU's, Ininji socks (toe socks for runners - hoping this might help my pinky toe blister situation), and a HEADLAMP! :D Petzl Tikka 2 or Tikka Plus2? I can't remember. It's got 50 lumens of light and great reviews.

    I've been on a Mexican food kick so it all sounds quite yummy what you had last night. How fun on the package that is coming your way!! Lots of cool running stuff. YAY! I wish I had purchased a headlamp. It's almost indoor only time for me so maybe next spring. I hope your run tonight went well. Sounds like great weather!

    LR, I feel like that would be me too, trying to keep up, but not being able to... why don't we listen to our smart voice, ya know the one saying, don't do this, train smart, and one day you will be in the fast group?! I get all panicky sometimes when I ride with a pack of boys, sometimes I can hang, sometimes I can't. Meh! Too funny about you and H "hanging" out at the park with your hangy straps! Hope you make it happen!

    Dana, sounds like the group run was fun, even if it wasn't quite what you imagined.

    I hear you about being the slow runner in a group run. I am in the slow group to start with, and I usually leave 15-30 minutes before they do.....at some point they blaze past me and I end up finishing dead last. Oh well. I get my run in, and it's good training for the marathon, when I KNOW I will be on my own (except for my awesome ghost runners!)

A headlamp is a godsend! I wonder how I ran without it! And it's great to take camping, especially when you are approaching the poratpotties....you know what you are and aren't sitting on! emoticon

    Congrats on another race under your belt! I struggle too with finding my pace with others around me. Sounds like you straightened it out though.

Good purchases coming your way--I'd be anxiously awaiting them too! I think the Kayano's are for underpro's and am an overpro--but love my asics gel evolutions! They make a seriously good shoe.

Rest Day

Today will be mostly a rest day - need to get in some upper arm ST one of these days though. KEAKMAN's gonne SMOKE me in our arms challenge. :( I think mine have gotten worse!

Had a wonderful evening last night w/ my DH - made a recipe from Oxygen Magazine which was delicious and easy. MAC AND CHEESE! :D

8oz whole wheat pasta (something small and mac and cheesy - elbows, we used a whole wheat gnocchi)
2 cups lowfat cottage cheese (I used 2% from Target)
1/2 cup pumpkin (I used butternut squash actually)
3/4 cup reduced fat cheddar (again 2% from Target)
1/2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs (I used regular panko)

You cook the pasta, puree the cottage cheese & pumpkin together, then mix it all together and bake in a dish w/ the breadcrumbs sprinkled on top for 15 min or until cheese melted and top brown. I did 15 but then a few min of broiling cause the breadcrumbs weren't really browning.

Could've used maybe a kick of pepper or something, but overall I was very pleased with this!!! It's like 425 ish calories per serving (makes 4 servings) and full of protein from the cottage cheese and whatnot. So great.

VERY much looking forward to the group training run tomorrow. I had a fear that everyone would be much faster than me, hoping for a bunch of slow newbies to be there - but CLOVERR1 said she would be there and be running slow w/ me so I feel that at least I probably won't be left alone! :D We're running the local half marathon course, so I will have a great preview for November - 14 miler.

Getting Back in the Groove!

And I guess running does that for me -- gotta do my running or a feel off kilter.

Had a slowwww 4 miler this morning, nice and easy. Saturday's the group long run. I should do some upper body ST tonight or tomorrow - so that's the plan there.

Food - last night's dinner was nonsense. I had planned on DH being back from his trip to Tuscaloosa to work on his dissertation, but it turns out he wasn't. So I wasn't feeling like cooking some dinner - and when I was transferring my newly purchased cereal to the containers we use instead of the box, it didn't all fit. So my dinner was : Cereal, muscle milk, Luna Protein bar, Gingersnaps.

Yeah not the greatest sources for nutrition, but the nutrition profiles weren't really too bad thank goodness.

So far today food looks good as well.

Been wearing skirts all week and decided to keep it rolling today with a dress. :) hehehe. Wearing a slicked back bun and got told I looked ready for ballet. I said I wish I was doing ballet instead of work -- not that I know how, but I bet it would be better. :)

    Awe! I bet you are smoking in a dress, with your tall & slender physique! Sometimes it feels so good to dress like a lady:) Plus, it's something not a whole lot of men can pull off ;) Hahaha! Hope the LR this weekend treat you well! I am continually impressed by your commitment to yourself! (And yes, cereal for dinner with ginger snaps is OK once in a while :)

Scale madness

Scale was down another 2lbs today, so only up 2 from last week now, hoping the trend continues!

Yesterday ended at about 1800 again, I'm guessing this is where my body likes to be when I'm not working out?

This morning I ran somewhere under 2 miles, just to get the legs loosened up and moving again and short enough that I could get back home and spend some time on the foam roller afterward attacking anything that spoke to me during the run. Feeling good, planning on 4-5 easy tomorrow and then hitting the training group LR this Saturday.

Tonight will be pilates right after work and the grocery store right after that to restock on fruits, get some bread, yogurt, milk, maybe a couple other things but nothing big.

    I know this is silly, but I want to be part of a training group that runs!!! If my back ever decides I can run again, I am going to do it! I think it sounds so cool that you are gonna hit up the trainig group LR!!!! Way to get your legs moving again!!

Stupid scale

So yesterday it was up 6lbs from my weigh in last week, today it is down to 4lbs up, hopefully this trend continues. I don't believe I legitimately gained 6lbs. :P Just trying to continue drinking plenty of fluids and eating nice and clean.

My stomach still feels wonky so it has NO PROBLEM with the clean eating mantra. It wants things simple right now.

Otherwise I'm feeling almost nearly recovered - still giving me grief is my left hip/butt area - need to do some serious foam rolling over there, but otherwise I just have some minor soreness left and I think I'll be ready for 3 easy ones tomorrow, we will see - I will keep playing it by ear.

That's really it for now. Tracked calories for yesterday, came in at 18-something, so a bit under my theroetical daily non-exercise burn. Just trying to track, eat clean, and recover right now so I can get into my marathon training feeling healthy and strong! :)

    Is the soreness from your race? How long ago was that? I always gain a little when I run -- all the swelling. Sooooo counter intuitive, but there you go.

    Scales are really stupid because yeah, it doesn't know you just ran a half marathon. Did you have similar issues after your full? Keep up the clean eating. It's the perfect way to get back where you want to be!

    I bet it will continue the downward trend. Here is my idea that kinda worked last night: lay down on the floor with your feet up on the couch for a few hours while reading a book, it made me mobilize some water weight!! I think you are training very smart Dana!

    I think those fluctuations are normal if you exert yourself a lot! Your body holds on to water and hence the spike in weight gain..

    I can relate. I just blogged about gaining four pounds on Sunday, was the same weight on Monday, and today I'm down five! Salt's my culprit, I think.
