Yeah I'm doing this at the end of April/beginning of May (it's an overnight event) with CLOVERR1 and raising money to fight cancer!
To donate here's the link:
Yeah, our team is the Pajama Cats and we'll be running in PJ's... and maybe some ears/tails? :D

Well -- I got better.
But I ate worse. HAHAHA I dunno -- I just didn't really get back on the tracking train but I've tracked everything so far today and I'm determined to make sure my eating is 100% on the ball -- and I'm looking forward to getting my workouts in ORDER.
Saturday I had a GREAT time at the Rumpshaker 5K.
I have to say -- my poor sister was a little disappointed at her performance since it was slower than her homestaged 5K time, but she did a GREAT job. She thinks it's the most consistently she's ever run (go sister pacer me haha), but she's also struggling with some pain in her lower back calves (guessing might be some Achilles Tendonitis, but I've never had it so I can't really relate). She was going to get her gait analyzed by someone at the place, and did - turns out she's pretty neutral, neato! - but when she went to take off her shoe one pinky toe area was TOTALLY BLOODY! ACK! Apparently she split her toenail -- she didn't even feel it, so eh. But yeah -- he recommended she look into some shoes w/ wider toeboxes, and afterward I asked if she was going up 1/2-1 size in her running shoe and she said no, so that might do it as well. At the moment she doesn't really have the income to support buying nice running shoes, but I did tell her about going into a store, trying on stuff, and then ordering last years model at the cheapest discount you can find. We'll see.
But other than those little disappointments, I have to say - I HAD SO MUCH FUN.
ONE of my coworker's showed. One of the two that didn't show apologized and said she didn't set her alarm and woke up at 7:30, the other didn't bother giving an excuse. eh. But the one that came carpooled with us and finished her first 5K (or at least her first in years and years) and she loved it and I'm so proud of her! :D
AND - there was the inflatable colon... and people running with plastic butts on... and most awesomely - the fact that I got to run the whole race side by side with my sister. I have never been able to run a race side by side with anyone and that was so cool, but more cool was that it was my sister's first official 5K and I got to help her through it and continue through the pain she was having and hopefully to have a pretty good time. :) We crossed the finish line together, side by side, with identical chip times! I SCOURED through the finish line photos and couldn't find one of us -- but I did email the guy because they said if you couldn't find yourself to send an email w/ bib number, clothes worn, finish time, etc. So I'm HOPING he happens to have a picture of us that didn't get uploaded or something. *fingers crossed*
Also she won a hour massage from someone in Birmingham, AL. hahaha. But she does travel there regularly so I encouraged her to keep it and use it. :)
ALSO! I met a SPARKER!!! MCHLLEMABELLE! :D She came up to me after the race, I guess it's pretty easy to be sure it's me when I'm 6'2" hahaha.
So I will share some pictures from all that at the end of the blog.
Then Sunday I went rowing and we took out a lopsided boat - 7 rowers w/ a cox. This means that transitions are a bit more difficult because you can't evenly drop in and out in pairs up and down the boat since one pair is missing a person. Well anyway, what it translated to was that I was the person in the middle so I was rowing almost the whole time -- it was a good way to get worked out, I tell you what!
Last night - donut dinner. :P BLURGH. I am glad I tried the banana pudding donut from Krispy Kreme, it's just the amount of donuts I ate that I am not happy about. *sigh* But I've discussed w/ the DH again about how I need his help and support in not getting tons of junk and he is on board. I had a correspondingly sick weighin this morning but I'm going to ignore that for now and focus on using it as inpsiration to get back into my healthy kick butt routine -- based on dinner last night plus little sleep I'm guessing it'll go back down with a few days good behavior anyway.
This morning was a really good row -- some nice drills followed by a good stretch of nearly continuous rowing, including more rowing all 8 than I've done in a while (honestly on Sunday I hadn't rowed in almost 2 weeks so yeah!). I also found out that I'm likely to be competing in a FOUR in a regatta at the end of April and I'm sooooooo excited about that prospect. There are some minor details to work out (ok major details, but apparently they are very likely to fall into place and very unlikely to be an issue - but we have to borrow a boat... haha - no boat would be a major issue.......... but it seems we are likely to get one so I'm not worrying about it). Our local college crew club has agreed to let us use theirs for practice but we are not capable of taking it with us, so we have to borrow a boat AT the regatta basically. Good thing is we have connections that tell us they can make that happen.
This will mean some extra rowing practice specifically with my competition lineup and I'm really excited about that. :) I like rowing in a 4 (I've done it a grand total of probably 3 times) because... it feels like a cool little club. more intimate? The boat is more responsive, which in a way is tough - but more fun - and because there are fewer people it's easier to get everyone on the same page anyway. And because there are fewer people, the easier it will be to coordinate these extra practices and make sure everyone is actually committed to racing (which is a problem we had in the regattas last Fall).
Then it was back to the gym for lifting. After the first time doing workout A of Stage 2 I was REALLY looking forward to upping some weights the next time around -- but since I had some time off since then, I definitely did the same weights as the first time. Maybe next week. Those squat/push presses were TOUGH today -- but they always make me feel so AWESOME for doing them. :) The rear foot elevated static lunge thingies felt less crazy today as well.
Tomorrow I'm looking forward to running. :)
And now that I've got all that out there -- the pictures!
Our team photo before the race -- my sweater was ditched before running - BYEBYE SWEATER!
I dunno if you can see us here, but I'm in a pink ponytail hat and sunglasses and my sister has green pants if that helps. HAHAHA :D
We're in the background here and my ponytail is goin NUTS - that's a downhill for ya. HAHA
I snapped this cool picture of my sister running - YAY!
There was a little troupe of ACCORDIAN players near the end - it was awesome! :D
My and sister right after finishing!!!!
In the inflatable colon at the post race party -- you could walk through it and there was like inflatable advanced colon cancer, polyps, etc.
I got a picture of this plastic butt w/ sharpie tattoo while in line for - wait for it - MELTING POT CHOCOLATE FONDUE. YES. That is the coolest post race food I've ever had. hahaha.
Meeting Summer (MCHLLEMABELLE) at the post race party! :D
Our shoes w/ timing chips. yayyy.

Yeah so not having any internet access at work has been a serious hindrance.
I got it back today - hence the blog.
I think if I hadn't also been sick I would have had a little sparktime at home but with being sick and all my home time was devoted to moping (ok RESTING) on the couch and sleeping and whatnot. Throwing together the simplest meals possible... stuff like that.
My DH went out and bought me a ton of instant noodle soup varieties - a few of the Thai Kitchen rice noodles (Bangkok Curry, Spring Onion, Lemongrass and Chili) and a couple of Udon noodle packs. I was in sick person heaven. :) hahaha.
On Saturday I started to feel a lot better in the afternoon, only to crash a bit that night and the following morning feel so poopy I stayed in bed instead of going to church. Didn't row that afternoon -- just rested.
Monday still feeling kinda sick but started feeling somewhat better later on that day, at band feeling good! :) And then yesterday I felt good all day after a nice sleep in - I called off sick from rowing because I didn't want to take any steps BACKWARD in my recovery by missing sleep. It paid off!
Today I'm feeling really NEARLY normal, just a slight feeling of congestion/tickle in the back of my throat, but energy levels are back and I feel pretty good! :D WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went on a SHORT run today - short short. A bit under 2 miles. It was gorgeous outside and while my heart and lungs felt they were working a bit harder than usual, my body felt just fine and I felt good afterward as well. Hit up Target for some MUCH NEEDED grocery shopping - YAY. And had time when I got home to shower and watch a show/eat/relax before heading to work.
Big excitement: RUMPSHAKER 5K is THIS SATURDAY! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still not 100% sold that my coworkers are actually going to go... hahaha. But one of them talked to me today about it without any prompting from me and might be carpooling down w/ my sister and me. I honestly don't care because no matter what, it'll be me and my sister doing a 5K together! :) I think I will try to stay with her the whole time - I'll ask her to see if that's what she wants me to do or not. I'd rather do it with her, but then again if I finish first I can get a cool finish line picture for her... haha :D Either way, it's all about her cause it's her first real 5K and I'm so excited! :)
Been doing a lot of reading -- Sookie Stackhouse is going to run out of supernatural people to bang at the rate I'm running through these books... HAHAHA.
My plan is to go lift weights tomorrow and maybe do some running. I haven't decided yet what weight lifting I really want to do -- I think I'll start next week as if it's the 2nd time through for all my NROL4W stage 2 exercises regardless... so tomorrow will be bonus. So will I do one of those workouts? if so, A or B? and if not, what the heck will I do? But I am feeling good and want to do something, and then Friday I will have a work MARATHON.
Gotta be here 8am-8pm. HURRAH! :P Glad Fridays are my usual off day anyway plus the race the next day I wasn't planning on anything for sure...
Well that gives you an overview of what's been going on and what will be going on in the near future if I don't get another chance to blog again soon. :P
OH - and with all the eating I was doing while sick (my throat felt good when food was on it but sitting there felt horrible... so that was tough to manage - at first even sucking on ricolas irritated it!) I was worried I had gained, but my DH kept telling me not to worry about it I'm sick blahblah, and well, I was down 1/2 lb from my last weighin this morning so I hope it's not all muscle but I'm glad I didn't see some blowup number.

Not feeling so hot at the moment... I haven't eaten since about 1:30ish (7:30 now) but I'm not hungry.
I have an annoying sore/ticklish throat that hasn't gone away since this morning... :(
This morning I rowed, then ran.
I forgot that it's SPRING BREAK and since I go to the University Rec Center they have funky hours, which today meant they're not open till 10am. :P After being done with rowing at 7:30 am and having a lunch date at around 11:30am - it was just the most awkward timing ever.
So I decided to go for a NOT SHORT run instead (not long, 4 miles, but not SHORT short either....). The tough thing is the way this skews the rest of my week - lifting tomorrow, can't lift again Thursday, can't go Friday cause I have to be at work at 11am and workout B takes at least an hour, so gotta lift Saturday...... so running Thursday for sure but then... run Sunday? wah. it's just annoying. I'm going to the temple w/ my family again on Saturday and I'm also working so it's work till 11am and then hit the gym and then hurry to get my protein in and leave to get to Birmingham before 2PM (nearly an hr drive) so.... yeah.
My run today was kinda neat -- at first it was just a run where I was trying to keep my HR down and take it easy - plan to go back to doing this as much as possible, with the exception of focused speed workouts. ANYWAY - it was going well until I see the ACC guys coming at me (Alabama Crew Club - university rowing club dudes) and I wave and pass and then I turn the beginning of a curve and see that they stopped running right about where I passed them, and then later in the curve I see that they're coming back towards me. I did NOT want to be passed by those dudes!!!!!
So I started BOOKING IT back to my finish point - I was running hard for at least .5 mile and it was TOUGH feeling. I got to the point where I had made a deal with myself to slow down since I figured they guys were heading back to the boathouse then and it was a wide street so it'd be less awkward to be passed by all of them, so I walked across the street and when I turned I saw that they were just coming onto the path there before the street, so I started running again (but eASY EASY now to the end). I kept expecting them to pass me going back to the boathouse, but I didn't see them. Either they passed after I turned behind me or they went the other way down that rd... kinda hard to explain in text but bottom line is when I was trying not to let them catch me, they didn't. :) RAWR!
Then before work I headed to a lunch get together for rowing folk to say goodbye to my awesome Rowing Coach - Alison - who founded the rowing club that taught me the sport, taught me how to do it, and coached my boat to my first athletic medal last Fall (a 1st place finish in a small local regatta!). Not to mention that she is generally cool as well. It was kind of a nice get together, we've been saying goodbye in a way for a weeks now so we were all well prepared. On Sunday we gave her this cool plaque thingie w/ a model oar blade on it painted in our club's oar design that was engraved with " Founding Head Coach Black Warrior Rowing Club" and her name, and she loooooooooved that. :D SO GLAD. I thought it was really cool, a perfect gift for someone who loves rowing period, and especially for a rowing coach.
For lunch I think I made really nice choices -- salad, mahimahi and sugar snap peas. YUM! But then I went a little crazy w/ the dessert... they had PEANUT BUTTER PIE. I mean COME ON. And we've been meaning to go to this particular place for ages now, it's a nice place, and it's not likely we'll go again before we leave town, so I think it was an appropriate splurge. I also had one of their mini bran muffin thingies - it was pretty sweet, but not overly so. DH and I kind of shared desserts, so he had some of my pie, I had some of his bread pudding.
now it's 6hrs later.
My throat hurts and I don't want to eat anything. I don't think I'll eat until after I go home.... I guess I have to clock out at some point technically for a lunch.... but yeah. :( wah! I hope this is just an annoying throat thing that goes away and be done with it soon.... I don't really feel SICK.... just the combination of loss of appetite and sore/ticklish throat is bothering me...

I think I had a lovely BALANCED weekend! :)
I have broken my no candy/desserts streak -- very carefully and thoughtfully.
I did not break into the candy bag I threw in the cabinet - my DH had bought these "hanuta" things. It's basically two little... wafer things w/ chocolate+hazelnut spread inbetween. They are about 117 calories each - I had two during the day on Saturday and ONE on Sunday. Saturday was my SPLURGE day - I declared it so because I know I went over on calories although I didn't track, but I didn't eat anything crazy unhealthy either. My DH bought these amazing "pretzel rolls" from this German bakery we love. They are a roll... that is like a giant round soft pretzel? So good. So I had those w/ PB and I know that was a little much bread and PB for one day. dinner was a little more than I should have had of cereal + cottage cheese and soymilk . SUPER SPLURGEY, right?? :D hahahaha. ;) I'm proud.
Because the next day was a cookout for the rowers -- the college crew club and my rowing club as a going away party for the one coach and early grad party for the other (and also yay it's spring break for them). I brought smoked TURKEY sausages - 110 cal each -- and planned for one plus 2 cups of strawberries plus some other splurges.
Well -- honestly -- I was feeling strong and just didn't feel like getting started on the sweet stuff at the party. The sausage was so good, I had 2 of those instead, not as much fruit (more like 1 cup combined of strawberries and pineapple) and I was full!!!!!!!!! I brought some gum to help me stay strong once I decided I was full. I mentally was like - hey Dana! You're full now. You feel good. Time to chew gum. :) So I did.
I did not eat any of the rice crispie treats, cookies, chocolate cake, or St. Patty's Day Cupcakes. :) I took home... trail mix! :) hehehehe. And I had a measured out 1 oz serving of trail mix at home and called it a day w/ 100 calories to spare.
Also this weekend: Saturday we went by the animal shelter to look at doggies. My DH fell in love with a puppy but we said no because we really might not even need to have a dog at all right now, and especially not a puppy, but DH said he's been thinking about that puppy constantly since then.... we'll see. Then I went running while DH went to the bakery and played DS in the car - so I headed off and got to come back to him waiting for me. :)
I did 5.23 ish miles - my average pace was SO SLOW. BUT! I wanted it to be. And I'm sure the weather also helped. Except for the first steep hill, I was working to take the hills/inclines easy peasy and not just attack them like crazy like I usually do, in an attempt to let my HR stay more even and lower. Because I kind of ignored that on the first hill (which was also the steepest) I can't really measure my results that well in my average HR OR the max, since they'll both be skewed by the readings from that hill - BUT - I felt really good about what I did and I was keeping an eye on it and so I saw the immediate results even though it's hard to compare the overall results vs runs I didn't do that on because I didn't do it consistently throughout. The beginning and end of the run had CRAZY WIND!!!!!! but the middle was calm and sunny and even warm. Beginning and end -- cloudy, little cold pinpricks of rain, and crazy wind. It was very strange! I was plowing straight into the wind for a good portion toward the end. When it let up I felt strangely a bit lost because I didn't have anything to push against. HAHA.
We got back home and my DH took a nap while I showered and get this - DID SOME CHORES. Nothing craaazy major I guess, but things that have been neglected. A bit of bathroom tidying, took the trash out (DH has done this sooo many times in a row now it was definitely overdue for it to be my turn), put away some things, got laundry going, changed the bedding -- ya know, stuff like that. We basically chilled and watched TV and movies for the rest of the day and it was nice. :)
Sunday was church - then organizing the row, I actually bowed out of rowing because we had 2-3 more people than needed for a boat and I got to row the past few Sundays so I wanted to let some others get to go, and then the party!
I'm planning NOT to have any candy/dessert today - I may allow some later midweek because TOM is coming afterall, but I feel much more in control about allowing those kinds of treats right now and my perspective is shifted to them being a TREAT and I just feel much better about that situation than before my little streak.
Feeling a BIT tired from the Spring Forward, but I will adjust - tonight is BAND. :) Tomorrow - Rowing, NROL4W, and hopefully maybe a short easy run?
