... my food has been pretty ridiculous for the past few days! :P
But the good news is my body is now craving lots of clean simple food, so I'm looking forward to a positive week. No race deadlines to prepare for, just a lot of lifting, a little rowing, and a little running. Should be nice.
I studied the course map and calculated our "adjusted" paces for the team and sent them out. Even with adjustment, CLOVERR1 ran her leg in like 8:04 min miles (although the race results had her at 7:14!!!! SPEEDSTER!) hahahaha :D At least the rankings for each leg would still be accurate since everyone ran the same length and she was ranked 9th of the 38 people who ran, so that's pretty awesome. :D
My pace turned out to 11:47 - very happy with that, even if I was 36/38 relay runners. I think the other teams tended to have fast people on that last leg because I definitely saw relay folks passing me in that leg -- looking at the times before adjustment (of which mine was like 12:50) I saw some 9's, a lot of 10's, some 11's, and only a few 12's. And knowing those runners were probably around 1min faster than the time listed there, they were almost all much speedier than me in a way I would NOT be happy about without knowing they were faster than what was listed! HAHA :D You know what I mean?
The course was kind of hilly!!! Overall it was more downhill than uphill, but the elevation curve was like - up, down, up, long down -- OVERALL. But if you look closer it was lots of little ups and downs throughout those overall trends. HAHAHA :D I really enjoyed the course, though -- there were great spectators. I joked with one of my teammates about how I never expect to finish a marathon in 4:40 (our time was like 4:39:18), so it was fun to be at the post marathon party when it was still in full swing instead of showing up straggling at the end hoping there's still food. :D HAHAHAHA.
But it was really neat running there at the end with the full marathoners -- I could see they were tired a lot of them. Some walking and stretching, some just doggedly putting one foot in front of another to just keep going. I had a smile on my face a lot and was really enjoying myself -- but I tried not to look too peppy when I passed a marathoner because I'm not sure how much I'd love seeing that if I were them. I'd be like "STUPID RELAY RUNNER. You've only been out here since mile 18!!!!!" But I still felt a sense of comraderie with them because I had BEEN THERE before. Not as fast as them -- so definitely a lot of respect for being among those who had made it to that point in the marathon so much faster than I had as well... but I was there and I know how tough it is in those final miles. My favorite part was probably the cheering/support station somehwere after mile 25 - they had gummi bears! :D hehehe. Just the thing to bring a smile to someone's face when they're closing in on the finish line, too. :)
Well. I'm sleepy. Yesterday meant waking up at 4:30AM after about 5 hrs of sleep (maybe) then I was up until after maybe 8pm when I fell asleep on the couch a few times throughout the night, waking up around 1-2 am for the final time, watching Olympics, and going to bed way too late. HAHAHA. I mean, I got plenty of sleep but not all in a row and it was weird. I'm thinking tonight I should go to sleep pretty easily and get on a better schedule for the week.
I was saving photos from my camera to my external hard drive and deleting them off the camera memory when I saw my "before" pictures from NROL4W. Not pretty. Not that right now I feel any prettier in general, but my arms and shoulders are definitely showing more definition! I had like... no bicep bump before (flexing even - sad!), and I know in the mirror now I can see a curve on my shoulders and then a curve for my biceps - so I know I'm building some muscle! I have like -- 3weeks left of Stage 1. Two more regular weeks (the last variation on sets and reps for these workouts), and then a week of doing the exercises with the same weight I used the first week - one set, as many reps as possible. As a gauge of how far I've come. I'm anxious to get to Stage 2 where the HIIT gets added at the end of the workouts. I think at this rate I'm still going to finish maybe in June? Which means I'll be done close to gearing up for marathon training probably, aiming for another fall marathon of some kind. So I think that will be perfect -- then I can focus on maintaining my muscle while training as best as possible. Last time I had started kinda trying to build muscle like... in the summer. And then a month or two later, marathon training! And regattas coming up! And I was a running and rowing machine and my ST fell by the wayside. I will NOT let that happen this year!
OK - ready to get back focused this week. :)

Not only was this race super fun, but I believe I received the most swag ever at a race... :D
We got: hat, gloves, finisher's tech shirt, and a medal. :D SWEEET.
Also -- some of the legs were not the length advertised... I should've realized something was up when my exchange point was right at around the 18 mile marker... meaning I was running around 8-8.2 miles instead of 7.5 as the final race instructions said. :P hahaha But I still managed to finish in around 1:30 I think -- the race started at 7:03, I was handed off around 10:10 and finished at about 12:40 or something like that. Well actually the race clock said 4:40, so I guess it might've taken me 1:33? Still puts me somewhere between 11:15-11:37 ish min mile pace, which is definitely the fastest I've ever done that distance IF that's a close enough guesstimate. And let's say I'm off just a bit, still 12min mile average is good for me. :)
But yeah, I think the first leg was short, second leg long, 3rd short, 4th pretty dead on and last leg long. (compared to the advertised lengths of 10k, 5k, 10k, 5k, 12k).
ANYWAY - pictures!
Our team name was "Psychos" and our shirts say "Cute but Psycho" As you can see we also have our names on our sleeves - CLOVERR1 is all the way to the left next to me :) This iron on transfer fabric she found was amazing -- doesn't require you to mirror the image and it's totally opaque so you can use any color and not worry about color show through.
Here's CLOVERR1 in action with our super cool yellow relay baton -- it was hollow so some people put them on a race belt, but most carried them traditionally :)
I'm the blur farthest to the back at the end of the race when my psychos joined me for the last 200yds or so of the race. :D

Sondre Lerche... rules.
And this venue was pretty freaking awesome -- a very intimite setting, tons of small tables for 2 right up to the stage and then larger tables around and booths... it was neato. DH said he felt like he was at Austin City Limits. ;)
This was the opening act, JBM - he was AWESOME - amazing guitar player, cool lyrics, soulful voice. DH called him Thome Yorke doing James Taylor, which I thought was an amusing description. :D In any case - very cool. Oh and see the monitors up front? Yeah, we were directly front and center, our little round table touching the stage.

And then we got to meet them afterward, so nice, so cool -- DH grabbed the setlist and Sondre Lerche FIXED IT, cause he made some changes, added the encore, and dated and signed it. :D hehehe. It was awesome.

... dunno what it is. Maybe I'm just recovering from last week still? I dunno.
BUT! I did still do a short run today as planned, and I even had time to shower, put on some makeup, and get my lunch together AND get to work on time. :)
Today is last day of work for me this week - HURRAH! Tomorrow I'm off - doing NROL4W at some point, at night it's the Sondre Lerche concert (LOVE HIM SO MUCH!) and thinking also to the Marathon Expo before that, Saturday will be maybe some zumba or maybe just yoga or something in the morning, hanging out with the awesome CLOVERR1 later and making T-Shirts for our relay team, and the Sunday's the marathon relay! WOOTWOOT! :D
I'm so stoked to be getting some more running bling. I got an email yesterday forwarded from our team captain that said they'll have an ENGRAVER on site to engrave your time on your medal. :D HAHAHA Which would be very cool if I was running the full or even the half I think, but I don't think I'll be spending the $15-20 they say it might be to engrave a medal for this particular race. Still -- that is pretty cool.
OOOH and previously when reading about the relay they said we shared a timing chip attached to an ankle strap but now reading the final instructions it says baton! :D I'll get to be cool and run with a baton! HAHAHA Yay. I love how reading about race day details gets me all pumped! :) I will apparently, as the finisher, get to be the one to go to the relay finisher's tent and get our finisher's T-Shirts and medals.
So -- I've put in an application for another position at my work! Which apparently, my boss is actually behind me getting since she suggested it to me. So after discussing it with my DH last night I put in the app as soon as I came in to work today. It's for the IT Dept, which I think I will love -- and it's -- GET THIS -- a DAY SHIFT. I know -- it will be so bizarre. :D haha. So we'll see...

I'm pretty sure I don't stink...
but I definitely didn't have time to take a shower this morning.
Hahahahaha. :D At least I was just strength training and not running so the sweating was limited -- and I had the opportunity to use the Olay Daily Facial Wipe thingies I bought specifically for this purpose. Woot.
But yeah -- this morning I slept in (HURRAH!) Got up, started cooking chicken, started the steamer to cook brown rice while I went to work, came back, made lunch and my protein smoothie to drink down while I packed lunch and got ready to go. JUST made it to work on time... SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN UP SOONER!
I even had to drop a couple sets on my lifting workout. :( BUT! I almost scrapped it altogether, so I'm still SUPER happy I went.
I also managed to do my squats without any bruising/discomfort on my spine. I had been using a towel after the first time to help cushion that area, plus making sure I get my shoulders back properly and don't settle the bar too high also helps -- but last time ONCE I started to lift it up and towel wasn't in place/the bar was in the wrong place and I was bruised a bit again, but this time -- SUCCESS! :D hahaha. Maybe that sounds stupid but I was getting annoyed at that and starting to think back squats might just not be for me, but I think I've got the kinks worked out now.
Everything went well, I just ran out of time. :P and I felt REALLY GOOD doing everything, I was SO glad I actually went and didn't chicken out. I reminded myself that right now my focus is ON building muscle and that's why I'm not reducing calories like I would to just lose weight quickly and so if I'm not doing my strength training workouts like I plan to, all I'm doing is eating more for no reason. :P That definitely kicked my butt out the door to the gym!
The strength area was PACKED, too -- I "worked in" with an older gentleman (ok maybe 50's not like OLDER but ya know, my gym is a University Rec Center so it's mostly college age folks) on a bench press station - I was using the bar to do my pushups. So that was kind of cool - new experience for me. I worked in with a dude on a seated row station but it was not spoken -- he just was away when I was using it and back when I wasn't, but it just worked out that way...
Ok I'm rambling. But good stuff. Food has been good today, but I haven't started tracking again yet -- need to do that tonight I think.
