I'm pretty sure I don't stink...
but I definitely didn't have time to take a shower this morning.
Hahahahaha. :D At least I was just strength training and not running so the sweating was limited -- and I had the opportunity to use the Olay Daily Facial Wipe thingies I bought specifically for this purpose. Woot.
But yeah -- this morning I slept in (HURRAH!) Got up, started cooking chicken, started the steamer to cook brown rice while I went to work, came back, made lunch and my protein smoothie to drink down while I packed lunch and got ready to go. JUST made it to work on time... SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN UP SOONER!
I even had to drop a couple sets on my lifting workout. :( BUT! I almost scrapped it altogether, so I'm still SUPER happy I went.
I also managed to do my squats without any bruising/discomfort on my spine. I had been using a towel after the first time to help cushion that area, plus making sure I get my shoulders back properly and don't settle the bar too high also helps -- but last time ONCE I started to lift it up and towel wasn't in place/the bar was in the wrong place and I was bruised a bit again, but this time -- SUCCESS! :D hahaha. Maybe that sounds stupid but I was getting annoyed at that and starting to think back squats might just not be for me, but I think I've got the kinks worked out now.
Everything went well, I just ran out of time. :P and I felt REALLY GOOD doing everything, I was SO glad I actually went and didn't chicken out. I reminded myself that right now my focus is ON building muscle and that's why I'm not reducing calories like I would to just lose weight quickly and so if I'm not doing my strength training workouts like I plan to, all I'm doing is eating more for no reason. :P That definitely kicked my butt out the door to the gym!
The strength area was PACKED, too -- I "worked in" with an older gentleman (ok maybe 50's not like OLDER but ya know, my gym is a University Rec Center so it's mostly college age folks) on a bench press station - I was using the bar to do my pushups. So that was kind of cool - new experience for me. I worked in with a dude on a seated row station but it was not spoken -- he just was away when I was using it and back when I wasn't, but it just worked out that way...
Ok I'm rambling. But good stuff. Food has been good today, but I haven't started tracking again yet -- need to do that tonight I think.

Yeah, I know -- Dana doesn't blog for a few days and the world just doesn't seem right. :D
It doesn't seem right to me either!!!! :D HAHAA Remember my plans for cookie dinner splurge? It also was cookie breakfast this morning. :P But I'm soooooo done with cookies/sweets for the moment now.
And likely splurges ahead this weekend -- I will aim to eat a minimum of 2 healthy meals per day though and work it out at my race.
I lifted on Saturday -- it was awesome. And postponed running cause the weather was... hideous. I did NOT want to run in 13MPH winds with gusts up to 21mph!!!!! Not after running in the wind like... the past two weekends.
So I ran Sunday -- and it was good. 12K in around 1:35 I think? I was taking it very easy for most of it, but was booking it right at the end. It was fun!
THEN - BUNNY UNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I got to meet another of my infamous SparkPals Bun Buddy Brigade (originally formed to raise and firm our tushes). First I met the lovely SKYFYRE in San Diego when I went to the convention -- remember pictures of my first (and only still) hike???
Well -- Monday HOPERY and I met to go run! :D It was so fun to actually run with someone who shares a pace with me -- although given the height differential you'd think I should be faster? hahaha. But seriously, being able to talk and run made it so fun! OK and not that it would be with ANYONE, the fact that it was Hope I got to talk to made it awesome. :) AND sharing my favorite route with a SparkRunnerFriend was very cool as well!
It started out a little chilly for me, but my hat was off before long, and Hope coming from Ohio was thrilled with the weather :D - then the sun came out! And it was glorious! I can't believe I used to hate the sun and now I love it! :) hahaha.
Here is a picture of us right after our run w/ my rowing river in the background. 5.23 miles done, according to the handy Garmin Hope was toting!
Then we separated ways to get cleaned up -- and I prepped a ton of veggies and the sauce for our pizza making festival. :D I was just about ready to roll out dough when the HOPERY clan arrived -- parents and 4 cute kids in tow! The littlest ones "helped" me make pizza -- no really. They did actually HELP but also resulted in somehow shredded cheese being inside someone's shoes among other things... :D HAHAHAA I was loving it though, for real. :)
We had pizza w/ wheat crusts (2/3 whole wheat flour and 1/3 white), homemade sauce (tomato paste+seasonings+honey), red and green peppers, red onion, mushrooms, turkey pepperoni and on a bit of it some pineapple and banana peppers. (Also some baby carrots and pretzel sticks were broken out while the pizza was getting made...)
And then it was ROCK BAND FEST! With Beatles Rock Band in No Fail mode, I actually think the littlest ones had the most fun. And when one set the drums on expert by accident -- it didn't really matter cause it was no fail mode anyway. :D hahaha The best was when they learned that with the singing part you had to kinda scream into the mic to make it go into overdrive... HAHAHA :D But then the tribes grew restless and it was time to go back to the alluring hotel pool... ;) Still - VERY much fun. A few pictures:
(That last one was taken by a child on my lap! HAHA)
See this is what I look like in scale with normal size people. HAHAHA :D
OH and dig the red SparkPeople shirt - woohoo!
Then I made cookies for cookie fest at band -- I bought refrigerated dough from the health food store (it was on sale and made from good real ingredients and organic flour and sugar apparently) so I did NOT have to bake from scratch after making a ton of pizza. :D haha. And band itself, and then home for cookie dinner. ;) haha.
Anyway -- this morning it was up earlllllly to go row. Oh, but no one showed up. Lots of apology emails later this morning because no one saw the lineups go out and since it was raining AND there were no lineups till very late at night last night, some people assumed we weren't rowing. :( Not only that but the majority of the people that DID show, voted not to row. I was very disappointed -- because Hope had come with me to see me row!!! But we still got to ride in the launch (coach's boat w/ a motor) to chase the guys crew club down the river and listen to my coach ... COACH. And get a little wet -- it mostly stopped raining, but it was sprinkling a bit for a while and pretty cold since we were being propelled by a motor instead of our own strength! :D But we had fun -- chatting all the while, and I got to talk about rowing a lot which is fun for me, and critique the guys form and all that good stuff. Then after talking as much as possible on the way back to the hotel and in the parking lot the Bunny Union was over! *SAD*
But I'm sooooooo sooooooooo glad they decided to make our home part of the stop on their move -- it was awesome. :) Sparkers are the best!
Oh and this morning I definitely watched House and ate cookie breakfast and then went back to bed after I got back. Got a good 2.5-3hrs of sleep and now I feel pretty normal. :D Looking forward to regular wake up times the remainder of the week, two days of work left, then more fun weekend ahead! :D

Last night -- another nice healthy dinner followed by chocolate. :)
I actually was like - I want to keep eating and eating! And DH was like, no come here and sit with me and we will fill ourselves with comedy. :) hahaha And we continued to watch the funny NBC Thursday night lineup. :)
This morning I got up, couldn't find my tights at first, called my rowing coach and asked if she would call when she was sure if we were rowing or not (constant rain all day yesterday and in the night led me to be about 99.9% sure things would be cancelled.) She took so long getting back to me that I was all the way ready and about to drive over there when I got the message - NO ROW!
So back to bed. I set my alarm so I could still get up and go to the gym to lift... um... but then I didn't. TOO TIRED. So I got some more sleep. And tomorrow I will NOT SET AN ALARM . I will sleep till I feel like getting up. And I will go to the gym and lift and then go run. :) And it will be awesome -- because I will be well rested and pumped.
As for today I am feeling slightly better than earlier in the week due to getting the "extra" sleep yesterday and this morning, but waking up in the middle of it all really kind of ruins the effect I think... :P But more IS better.
OK -- and for the record I am WAY SUPER CRAZY excited about some awesome things coming up next week -- AKA, the best week EVER. For one thing I will be only working 3 days next week. :D hehe. The reasons WHY are the best though:
Monday my awesome SparkFriend HOPERY and her family will be visiting! :D WOOHOO! They are making the effort on a move to pass through my town and I'm so stoked. We have plans to run and make good homemade pizza together. :)
Then Friday I was able to get work covered so I can take the day off so I will be able to go to the SONDRE LERCHE CONCERT! :D YAY! I'm also hoping we might be able to get a chance to go to the MERCEDES MARATHON EXPO since it will be going on that day... which leads me into the Marathon weekend!
Saturday SparkFriend CLOVERR1 will be coming up and we (she and maybe some of our teammates) will be decorating our team T-Shirts :D (Cute but Psycho - the other 3 runners are in the Psych dept and my DH is, and CLOVERR1 doesn't mind being lumped with Psychos hahaha). And then Sunday - THE RELAY!!!!! :D
So my efforts to aid with the Learn to Row, involving being available every morning at 5am even though I didn't have to row on two of those days, will be rewarded with a super fun and awesome week and weekend to come!
This weekend will be about some preparation for those things basically -- not least important some GOOD QUALITY UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP! A good training run of 7.6miles, some grocery shopping, finding my fabric paint in our storage unit... haha :D Stuff like that.

HURRAH! :D hahahaha
Normally that would be a source of disappointment and irritation but after this week, all I can say is... SWEET!
We were one short, so my coach gathered all the newbies in one boat and only needed 2 vets to fill it out. It was a good day for it as they have already learned quite a bit so having a boat mostly full of new rowers won't be SO bad and they will all still get to keep learning. AND I got to say - PEACE OUT I'M GOING TO BED!
Also it was raining -- and I was more than happy NOT to row in the cold AND rain. (Not as cold as yesterday or Monday, but still.) So into bed with me -- but then I had to get up and eat an apple cause my tummy was rumbly -- and then I could fall asleep. I was able to get to sleep soon after 6am, and got up a little after 11am. So.... 1-5 (about 4hrs) and 6-11 (about 5 hrs) for a total of 9 hrs. I'm feeling much more human and normal today. Still tough to get up at 11 -- it was time to run and I was not feeling it. I'm SORE from yesterday's NROL4W! But I knew I needed to.
So I semi-bundled - tights and a few upper body layers - and got going. It was sprinkling, not too bad, and once I got going I felt really good and wished I had more time to run longer. Instead I decided to FARTLEK my way back on the 2nd half -- sprinting up every incline. :D It definitely helped to take advantage of some of my enthusiasm.
Oh and I went twice as far as I did on the treadmill, my pace was faster, and my cal burn PLUS cooldown was less than 40 more calories. hahaha You can really tell how my heart was racing on that beast machine yesterday.
I had a splurge of some little chocolate candies last night for my birthday after a nice healthy dinner. :) I think that might be my splurge of the week since I have no plans to splurge this weekend -- we'll see what my DH has in mind though! haha.

And this is my 3rd one so far in a Healthy BMI range! :D That is SO EXCITING!!!!
I took the RealAge test again and my age went UP from last time I think -- last time I was a teenager, this time 23.4 -- still younger than my actual age of 27.
The reasons it went up: stress (moving and close family dying w/in the past 12 months), and not having a dog! :(
YES! It actually told me that!
But what can you really do about those things? Granted, not having a dog and the other stresses DID get to me -- not the moving so much, but yeah. Some of the health answers actually improved -- like flossing everyday now! :D More veggies have become common for me, more vigorous strength training and cardio... stuff like that.
So RealAge can get over it, I've made healthy improvements since last year and it's ok that stresses of life age me a bit, who can really avoid them? :D I'm still younger than my chronological age. hehehe.
So this morning I got up and went rowing -- today was more rowing but I still didn't count it for cardio. Too hard to track with all the sitting in between and it was so slow my heart rate honestly didn't really get elevated. Then to the gym for LIFTING! :D This week the workouts went from 2 sets of 12 to 3 sets of 10 -- and from 2 sets of 10 for core to 3 sets of 12!!!
I added some small weights to the Olympic Bar for the squat - WOOT. The powerlifting room was FULL so I could not use the squat rack, but I made due with some other lifting station. It was slightly awkward to unrack/rack the weight, but I needed assistance since although I might have been able to lift it to get it behind my head, I don't think I could have brought it back in front. :P
Pushups were similar to last week but felt better and 3 sets vs 2 so woohoo on that front. Seated Rows about the same -- feel I will up the weight on these next week though.
Step Ups I finally moved to the bench instead of using step risers: The first week I used a stack of 4 I think, then 5, then 6 - and I think the bench is the same height as 6 risers - close anyway. Now I don't have to bother with finding and stacking risers before I do my Step Ups at least -- but I had to step down the weight on the final set - those were killing me. I kept getting stuck at my leg alllmost straight and my "dangle" leg would jump up reflexively onto the bench. But I think I fixed that. :P
Prone jacks were the core exercise for today and they went pretty well especially considering the increase in the sets/reps! The first set I had to re-setup after the first 8, so it was like a set of 8 and 4 back to back asap. Then the second set was a perfect 12. :D WOOHOO! Last set, 10... and then I couldn't do anymore. I reset up but my muscles just would not support it. So that was it for today!
Then it was time to run -- and this morning for rowing I was BUNDLED UP again -and it actually got colder AS we were out there. When we left the dock was normal, but when we got back it was covered in frost and some ice! So then I headed to the gym, changed to lighter clothing to lift. Then I was like -- I do NOT feel like bundling all up again to go back outside... ugh. So I decided today would be the day I would try running on the treadmill again.
UGH! It was so bad if I hadn't been so tired I would've headed outside. But I decided to stick with it for a mile. The good thing? I learned that I can actually get in a BIT of a groove on the treadmill -- I can look around a bit without feeling like my feet are going to go rogue on me. AND NOT GET HURT! I tried running on a treadmill the first time soon after finishing C25K and I jacked up my hip -- that was the first of my two IT band related running hiatuses. The bad thing? I was going SLOWER than usual but my HR was HIGHER. It was killing me. :P Granted -- I was REALLY tired, so maybe it was fatigue that really had me hating it. Plus I had no music and I'm way too used to being able to look around at stuff and listen to my tunes... the TV's in the cardio arena were just getting on my nerves. HAHAHA
I'll give it another chance someday I think, when I'm less tired and when I'm fully prepared with musical enjoyment, but let's just say today taught me why they call it the DREADMILL.
Home, eat, sleep. Wake up - get ready, and get birthday presents! :D I got two blu-rays - Twilgiht and Inglorious Basterds (YAY!!!!!) and some wicked awesome looking drumsticks for Rock Band - they are clear and are supposed to LIGHT UP when you strike with them! I'm hoping maybe to try them out tonight if I'm not too beat. :)
I also got "notified" of my Valentine's present -- tickets to see Sondre Lerche!!!!!! :D it's 2/12 and a Friday night so I have to arrange work and whatnot, so I had to know about it. :)
