my next run is the 20 miler and then it's TAPERING TIME!!!!!!!!!! CRAZY!
Today I was sooooooo not feeling like my run... I procrastinated a BIT but left only 15 min later than I expected to, was concerned it might be too warm but in fact it was flawlessly gorgeous outside. Then when I started running my shoes were bugging me -- I stopped and retied them with the top (not the extra) hole tied and VOILA, my run started being FABULOUS. It was sooooo gorgeous outside, my music was rockin -- (haven't run with music in a while due to pouring rain and my MP3 player dying) -- I ended up JUST under a 12 min mile and due to a little adjustment I made to the route I looked up on mapmyrun actually went 6.29 miles instead of just 6. ROCK ON!
Today's run actually made me get more excited about Saturday because so far this week I've had Tuesday which was pouring rain and wind, yesterday which was fast but felt like a chore and lost music halfway through.... so today's run helped get me really excited about running 20 for somer reason -- also I feel so good right now and I still get to have a rest day tomorrow so that is encouraging, too.
More people at work are finding out about my marathoning endeavors. I guess it's hard not to ask about it when I'm coming into work in my running clothes half the time, but still -- I've been doing that for weeks now but it's only just started to really come up.
I was talking to a woman at my work who is very overweight (I don't want to say obese because I hate that word) but anyway, she was saying how proud of me she was for doing all this running and that I sounded fast to her (oh the wonderful blessing of how there's always someone slower and always someone faster than you. If I was some crazy elite marathoner maybe I'd get a big head, but that certainly isn't going to happen but even THOSE guys have someone that's faster than them on a given day! But it's nice to occasionally be reminded that even though I'm slow for many runners out there, I'm fast to lots of other people! ), and I started to tell her how I got started running I was walking 90 seconds and running 30 seconds for like... 20minutes. And then I was like -- and that was after I had been working out for like... 6 months!! I started by walking on a treadmill for 30 min!
And explaining that really reminded me how far I had come and how by adding little by little I've come from someone who found it challenging to walk for 30 min on a treadmill to someone who is going to run for 26.2 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT IS INSANE. But looking back on my journey was really uplifting and inspiring to me to see what I'm capable of by setting small goals and continuing to move forward. Heck, I even kinda stagnated in running for some periods in this timeline -- stopping running after my first 5K for the winter before starting up again the next year, not starting to add distance much until later that year -- then the IT band issues which caused a running hiatus before THIS year. Even so, I only started learning to run miday through 2007 and I will end 2009 as a marathoner. :D THAT IS FREAKING COOL. HAHAHAHAHA. Exciting! :)
Ok enough patting myself on the back -- so I did good on the food front yesterday, ate MORE yesterday coming 59 cal below my upper limit. I took pictures!!! But... I didn't get a chance to upload anything. Some things I'm excited to show you once it gets up: A cottage cheese/cereal mixture w/ dates and honey and my dinner which was pasta w/ meat+mushroom sauce. :) YAY!
This morning was just TOO busy -- get up, eat and watch part of ANTM, go run, come back shower, pack lunch, eat and watch another part of ANTM, go to work.
I didn't even get to finish the episode! HAHAHA :D But I feel good about giving priority to the important things and not to TV this morning. :) I got plennnnty of sleep and it felt good. I also weighed 2lbs less than yesterday! Still not sharing the numbers until I make my weightloss plan post marathon, but I will say I'm not too far from my maintenance range and I've been feeling really good about how I feel lately in my body. :) I want my muscles back but I don't feel overly puffy anymore. I think I need a full-length mirror at home. When I was at the gyno the other day and I was getting dressed there was a mirror in the room and I was like - DANG!!!!!!! My long skinny legs really add a whole other dimension to my overall appearance and body proportions. I am so used to seeing myself from pretty much the widest part of my body (hips) and up that I think I get a kind of skewed image of myself. Something to think about in the future.... I'm thinking like after we move away from Tuscaloosa and get settled wherever DH's first career job will be.
That's it for now! A longer blog than I intended... guess I have more on my mind than I thought.
OH you know I want to share something else -- in one of my SparkTeams we recently shared a dream list of things we'd like to do in our lives and I want to share mine:

Yeah so I got TOTALLY SOAKED this morning running in the rain. It was supposed to be a 6 miler but again, I got a little turned around on my route that I have never run before but was giving a go from mapmyrun. I forgot to refresh my memory on it before I left the house, but I don't mind that it was a bit short because it was a TOUGH run.
It was not just raining, but it was also kinda crazy windy at times. The very last stretch was uphill into the wind and rain!!!! My old Chief's Poncho was catching the wind and it was hard - but! I did it!!! Averaged 13min miles, I'm happy. I had just enough time to go home, shower, and get back to the Dr's office for my "LADY DOCTOR" appt. It went well, I was asked by both the nurse and Dr separately how tall I was. :D haha.
They took my BP - 112/70, and apparently my iron is good, too. WOOT. All the lady bits got passing grades as well -- and I also got the first of the HPV vaccination shots. I found out it was covered by my insurance so I figured why not?
THEN JUST enough time to go home, pack a lunch, eat some PB and pretz and LEAVE.
AND I made sure I got just over 7hrs of sleep last night so I'm not feeling too tired today even with all the running around. Granted -- I'm only just barely 2hrs into my work shift, but still -- all is well so far.
SO! A sparkfriend of mine (TAIMOIRAI) posted that she was planning to take pictures of all of her food -- I figured it would be a great way for me to stay accountable as well since my food has been kinda crazy lately so I have volunteered to be a food picture buddy for a week. This morning I forgot when I ate 2 small wheat rolls before running, but I DID take a picture of my PB+Pretzsticks. So I will take a picture of everything else today and call it a success and continue through next Monday/Tuesday. We'll see. So you'll likely be seeing the previous days food unless I get cool and start doing one each night.
14 more runs before the marathon!!!! 24 more days!!! :D

This time? Not gonna lie, it kinda sucked. HAHAHAHA
Actually I just put my time into mapmyrun and I was under 13min miles(my normal long run pace), closer to 12.5 but... yeah.
Here is what I think went wrong -
-I underestimated the heat
-I felt so good at the beginning I didn't stop to drink soon enough or often enough at first
-I got sooo hot and thirsty later on that I overdid it with the fluids
-I got kinda sick to my stomach feeling
-My legs felt beat.
The last item I'm not sure whether I attribute to the poorly timed fluids or the fact that the last time I ran this distance my midweek mileage was SO much less, this is the highest midweek mileage I've had thus far? Eh. Either way I embrace the runners mantra:
Some runs suck. Others are awesome. The sucky one is now over. The awesome ones are to come! :)
But I DID remember to take my camera and before the last couple miles where all my possible mistakes led to once of the worst feeling ends (no sharp pains, no injury feelings, just sooo tired and sick to my stomach) - I took a bunch of pictures!
So get ready to be bombarded with sights from my run. But first -- some numbers!
My old Brooks Addiction 7's got retired after 250.21 miles -- I was heavier when I started running in them and I used them for ALL workouts, which I think contributed to a faster decline. $/mile (based on what I paid for them) - $0.36 :D Fun feature on mapmyrun.
My Asics Gel-Kayano 13's (Take 1) have lasted me 366.75 miles - maybe should have been a little less than that, but I think I was smart about when to retire them. I bought them in June 2008, but they didn't REALLY start to get used until 2009 when I retured my old Brooks. $/mile - $0.18 :D
My newbies -- the Brooks Adrenaline 9's - SO NEW!!!! but already have 137.89 miles!!!!!! I'm really wearing down the pavement these days! :) hahahaha $/mile - $0.61 - we'll see where these babies end up by the time they're toast.
Also - this year I have run 483.95 miles -- will EASILY run over 500 miles in 2009. Earlier this year I set a goal to run 300 miles this year and 500 miles in 2010. Well! :D hahahaha. Blew this one out of the water. Not sure what I will set it for 2010 now that I've beat 500 -- I may keep it the same - plan for a fall marathon but running less the rest of the year, ya know? Still very cool.
We start in the river park -- at this point it is practically empty, except for the boating tailgaters who tailgate at the games in their fancy boats. :P
Across the street in this photo you can see the road I run down on my way back to the park -- note the empty pretty park:
Then I run past one of the popular RV Parking areas a little farther from campus - first on the street:
Then I get an overhead view as I cross the bridge:
Then I see a couple of runners on the trail I'll be running soon! I dunno if you can see them the way Sparks will resize the photo, but they're the speck to the left of the middle red umbrella! :)
That part of the trail is crazy -- you can see the smoke rising up in the background from Dreamland BBQ right next to that other place by the river, which is Wintzell's Oyster House. But more on that later!
I hit the side of the trail that would be to the LEFT of that bridge first -- I run under and then next to this cool train track - sometimes trains are actually on it when I'm running:
After that curve I face this gorgeous sight -- on either side of the trail with the rocks is water - so pretty:
Here's a view on my way back:
Another fun fact is that we row along the stretch of river that this trail is beside. :)
I still haven't gone down to look at this tombstone in detail to see if I can make anything out - one of these days!
Coming up on the Oyster House!!!!
This part of the trail is kinda my favorite but is also kind of strange because look to the right - gorgeous view of the river! Across the river you can see the docking area for the local old school riverboat "The Bama Belle" but it's not in dock right now:
And to the left... people eating:
It was too early for any patrons at this time, but the employees were opening up. You can see those giant window doors - the two far ones are open. And if you'll notice HOW CLOSE the trail is to the patio area as well, people are frequently eating there when I run this trail. :D
This towing company is also along the trail with their cool propeller:
Then after I run back past the restaurant I come to the beautiful little downtown Northport area -- it really feels like a main st in a quaint little town. There's a hardware store and an old fashioned toy shop, barbershop, "City Cafe", and then across the street there are art galleries and a schmancy salon where I last got my short hair do DONE.
Check out this character! HAHAHAHA I hope you can see him...
Then it's back across the bridge!!!
That is the train track bridge that I run underneath BTW. AND SEE WHAT A GORGEOUS DAY?!?!? It was like... 70 and cloudless. :)
On the other side of the river I get to run up on the Tuscaloosa News!
Then it's through the Downtown and Historic Areas -- CHECK OUT THIS MONSTER CURB I always get to run over! haha
And gorgeous fall leaves here!
At this point there were tons of people outside in their yard, parked all along the street and IN people's yards, partying it up and getting ready for the game. I felt slightly awkward trying to take any pictures in this area, because I was running RIGHT NEXT TO THEM -- but I had to take a picture of this banner -- this is a CLASSIC Alabama football cheer:
RAMMER JAMMER YELLOW HAMMER GIVE 'EM HE..ck ALABAMA! (Not sure how anxious the profanity buzzers get on here!)
Now getting closer to campus you can see all the traffic and cars parked along the side of the road -- tailgating tents, the works:
BLURRY at the end but you can see the chaos --- at this point I'm no longer running WITH the traffic, now I'm running AWAY from the stadium... after I get past the crowds and I'm near the outer parking lots I start feeling REALLLLY ragged. *ugh*
But I have one more photo for you! The view of the park after I get back to it:
This is still a full TWO HOURS before kickoff when I left the park! :D hahahaha. YAY FOOTBALL! Also we won. ;)
