    Oh, man...I'll have to remember to do one of these, only for me it will be the feet!!! so far only blisters on the little toes and a few bruises...I agree, you need to get weight lifting gloves! I LOVE mine!

    Hey! You are my first friend to vlog! Congrats. You know... your voice is EXACTLY the way I thought it would be. How cool is that?! You rock.

Dana, you should DEFINITELY splurge on some gloves. Get pretty ones.

Speaking of pretty gear, Hubby and I went to the Dragon Boat Festival in our city today and because we arrived in between heats we didn't actually see any races, but we did see some vendors including one that was selling adorable rowing outfits. They were basically like running outfits, except that the tops had Mandarin collars -- of course! -- and the bottoms were skorts. We talked about joining a non-competitive team for next year. I hope we get to be on one that has neat gear.

    Ouch! Yep- time to invest in some weight lifting gloves. After my hubby's motorcycle accident his doc recommended them for work while his road rash healed because they protect your hands and leave your fingers free. He still wears them to walk the dogs cuz he doesn't control them like I do and the tug at him the whole time :)

Rowing today was FANTASTIC.

We had a chick boat, and a dude boat (although our female coach did row with the dudes... :P) And we raced. HAHAHAHAHA

Today was the first day EVER that several in my boat had rowed "all 8", which means all eight rowers are rowing simultaneously. Until this point the most I had ever done was 6 at a time. It was HARD! But verrrrrry fun. I got new blisters.

I also caught my first crab! It was a doozy!!! A crab is when your oar gets stuck in the water for some reason and the handle will either -

1) punch you in the gut, face, whatever
2) swing harmlessly and terrifyingly over your head

Luckily, I had a number 2 action going on -- it kinda came and I just laid back and let it go over my head, then it spun around and I finally got it under control... this is WHILE we're trying to race the guys. :P But at least I was the second one to crab cause the girl behind me did it first... hahaha but then she thanked me for doing it so she felt better! :D

We lost, but they had more experienced rowers and a couple of competitive (outside of competing within the club even) rowers in their boat. :P I'm just proud of how well we did and our coach and experienced rowers in my boat seemed impressed as well so I'm happy.

I also got in a 3 1/4 mile run in this morning -- I've burned 1400 calories today!!! I haven't tracked any food -- I'm eating healthy, and not too much. I've been busy and not eating when I'm full, so I'm not worried about it.

Tomorrow we will be going to TWO shindigs. :D Our upstairs neighbor invited us to something that will be going on earlier in the day, and then later on we're headed to the Rowing People one.

I'm planning to make a cucumber salad, hummus to go with some Food Should Taste Good THEWORKS chips, and some mini burgers for the "slider" buns I bought on sale. :) WOOT.

Now to go shower and pay attention to the hubby. :)

this morning I went rowing and I realized I needed to go grocery shopping, and couldn't go running in between because I left my running shoes at home so..... anyway by the time I was done shopping and putting away it was HOT HOT HOT outside and I realized - HEY! I'm off work tomorrow! :D I'll run then! WOOHOO.

But when I left rowing to go to Target to do my shopping I realized I'd have time to kill once I got there because Rowing got over at about 7:30 and Target opens at 8AM. After scouting the area I selected a piece of sunny grass in between the Target and Home Depot Parking Lots, laid out a towel I had in the car from my last trip to the aquatic center, and did Pilates! :D

I neglected to work out my core yesterday with all my squeezing it in at work (which went GREAT!!! A total of 3 sets of tricep dips, squats, and wall pushups, and walking lunges! WOOT!), so it was awesome to really work it out. Plus I was laying in the grass under the sun and congratulating myself on making the most of my time. When I got done I looked at the time and it was 8:00. PERFECT!

So tomorrow is running and then rowing in the evening, Saturday we're planning to cookout with the rowing club and possibly shoot some fireworks. :) I haven't decided if I'll row on Sunday yet or not, but I will get a run in to get my 3 that I'm aiming for for this week.


MUST share about my latest obsession -- Cottage Cheese Smoothies. :)

I got creative after I ran out of my tofu and was looking in the fridge... got yogurt, but that's good on it's own for snacks/lunches... anything else creamy? COTTAGE CHEESE. So I looked online to see if anyone else had tried this before (just wanted to make sure it wasn't a horribly gross idea) and I saw a few recipes so I was like - yay! I'll try it!

I like this mix:

3oz 2% Cottage Cheese
3/4 cup of Light Soymilk (plain or vanilla, I liked both)
1/2 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
1 cup frozen fruit (One day was Strawberry Banana, today I ran out of Strawberry Banana at a little less than 1/2 a cup, so I added from another mix I bought of mango/boysenberry/rasberry/blackberry and VOILA!)


About 252 cal and 28g of protein -- and so delicious.

I love the slight taste of the cottage cheese in there... I bet if I were clever enough I could pawn it into some kind of "CHEESECAKE" smoothie. :) Not sure I want to call it that at this stage though, but it IS delicious.

Bought lean beef and mini buns to make burgers for Saturday and gonna make some kind of hummus dip and a cucumber salad... :)

    Girl, you are the picture of efficiency! Awesome use of time! I enjoy doing yoga at home outside near the little waterfall and koi pond of our condo units. Sometimes people walk by, but rarely. I've been doing my yoga here out on the deck. I'm sure some people in the high-rises across from me can see me, but when it comes down to it, I don't think anyone cares, including me. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do1 ;)

re: cottage cheese smoothies... yum! I use cottage cheese in my smoothies sometimes,and i agree it gives it that cheesecakey flavor. I also use it in pancake batter to give my pancakes a protein boost.

    Our Canada Day in town was rained out... no picnic, beach day or fireworks!! We are rescheduled for Sunday. I think I might go... Usually we don't get to the one in town because DH always has to cover the one in the next town (45 min. away).

Running? Strength Training? What?

You mean one set of Bicep Curls doesn't count as Full Body Strength Training?

And running back into my apartment because I forgot my lunch can't count toward my marathon training????


Today was... special. My left hip/butt/calf -- all a bit sore this morning and it was making me cranky and not wanting to do anything. I decided not to run since I'm just getting back into it this week and to aim for a minimum of 3 runs from Mon-Sun. DEFINITELY running tomorrow post-row. So I was still gonna do strength training, but vetoed doing lower body because of my aches... and then... ended up doing nothing really. :P

NOTHING is kind of harsh -- I DID wash some lunch containers that had been sitting around finally (the one downside of packing a lunch every day) and I DID tidy in the living room area AND part of my area in the Office AND get everything ready to run Roomba when I left AND cook some chicken breasts for lunches and stuff....

Just no real exercise to speak of. I'm thinking I will fit some in throughout the day. I'm talking some Walking Lunges (which I just realized yesterday I don't think I've ever done before!) around the office, squats and wall pushups when I go to the bathroom, some tricep dips off of my desk... Not the most intense workout ever, but at least I'm not neglecting my poor muscles.

I'm feeling... vacation fever because of the Holiday Weekend I think and the fact I have Friday off. :) hahaha.

EDITED TO ADD: Circuit one of "At work" strength training completed. I'm gonna do some more later -- Squats+Wall Pushups in the bathroom, Tricep dips off the counter in the break room and walking lunges in front of the vending machines in the break room. :) hhhahaa. It was secluded...

    I'm a clean freak so I have to ask you if you love your Roomba or not. I want one. Shall I splurge? Also, I hope you use hand sanitizer after doing pushups on the bathroom wall.

  sounds like given the circumstances you did a great job of squeezing in exercise. Most people would have just skipped.

And I agree, the one downside of packing a lunch is having to clean out the containers afterwards.

    I'm curious how your first go at walking lunges went. For the longest time I had to do to them close to a wall because I kept losing my balance and needed something I could grab just in case. Even now that I've been doing them for a long time I still sometimes lose my balance if I'm halfway through a second or third set and getting tired. And on top of that, sometimes I think they don't really hit the muslces as much as static lunges, though they seem good for cardio and balance! What did you think of 'em?

Also good are walking plies - so just start on one side and plie (or exagerated side shuffle) leading with that leg, and then turn around and come back leading with the other leg.

    Okay - so you're taking a day off. You can HARDLY be considered a slacker, darlin. I know how hard you work. Your wall exercises and dips off your desk sound... creative. lol. Work with watcha got, right?

What do you store your lunches in? Just plastic containers? I've been wanting to replace my plastic containers with something more eco-friendly and body-friendly (something that's not leaching chemicals into my food). I'm looking for glass or metal I guess. I am pretty clueless about what's out there. Guess I should do some research...

Anyway, I'll stop randomly babbling - what I love about you is your focus. When you have a lazy day you are always thinking ahead to how to refocus the next day. Great job!

    Sounds like a great plan. It's okay that it's "not the most intense workout ever." As I know you know, sometimes it's good if it's less intense some days, more intense others, etc. And really, since it's all about making exercise work in your life in meaningful ways that stick, you get an A++++ for being resourceful and working your workout into your work (couldn't resist piling up all those "works." heh).

I didn't track my food for today pre-dinner until I came to work and I can already tell it's gonna be a challenge to make it through today!!! :) haha

I forgot one of my snacks -- what's usually tuna or salmon so a big protein bang for the buck in there...

At least I brought a whole pita even though I only need a half for my lunch so I can eat half of that at some point as a snack to help me work it out. :P hahahaha

And I was all worried earlier about eating too much while I was at home and whatnot. At least I can pretty much do WHATEVER for dinner worry free as long as I get enough protein.

UPDATE: HALLELUJAH! :D One of my coworkers had a protein bar leftover from when they did their bariatric diet and it was perrrrrfect. 160cal, 15g protein, Cinnamon and delicious. I feel a lot better now. :)

    Protein bars are awesome... just pick up and go. I had an Isoflex for lunch today... 30 g protein!! I was at court until 1 p.m. - usually eat at noon, so I was hungry!! Had half the bar, ran over to Curves for a half hour, ate the other half and ran back to court for the afternoon!

    I totally feel your pain, or shoud I say hunger!!! I was in a bit of a rush this morning packing lunch. When I got to work and tracked breakfast, lunch and my snacks I only had 21g of protein...WHAT?! So I had to modify my lunch (skip the left over veggie pizza) and buy a tuna sandwhich from Subway across the street. I'm in the high 80s now for protein...I guess that will do.
