So.... we'll not dwell on the fact that on Saturday night I was laying in bed moaning and whimpering because my stomach hurt...
I don't really know why I still let myself do that to me. I should really know better by now, shouldn't I?
Yesterday I almost really overdid it but my hubby helped stop me before I went for an extra thing of ice cream. :P
Today I'm not tracking because there are some things this morning I have no idea how to track, but I made mental estimates of calorie amounts and I'm about where I usually am before the workday, and I brought a typical lunch and snacks. Tomorrow I'll go back to 100% tracking.
I know that I didn't totally ruin my hard work this weekend, I really only overdid it on Saturday (although WOW I really did it!)... but it never stops being disappointing when I eat to the point that it causes me pain. If I had only eaten things that were unhealthy but stopped when I was full I wouldn't be stressing it -- but this compulsion to just keep stuffing my face until I hurt realllly bothers me.
But hey! I'm here! I'm on SparkPeople and I know that this is a lifelong journey for me. I will continue to learn everyday, and as my lifestyle changes through the many different stages in life, I will have new challenges to face as well and I will need to continue to self-analyze without dwelling and wallowing in guilt in order to adapt and make the changes that will keep me healthy for the rest of my life. :)
One thing I learned last week is that I'm DEFINITELY burning more than 2500 calories a week on my current workout regimen. Last week I ran far less than usual, rowed a bit more than usual, didn't count any strength training burn due to squeezing it in randomly, and I still was about 700-800 calories OVER my calorie burn entry.
SO -- there IS that to consider as well. This week as I'm running more consistently and Strength training with more focus, even though I will have less rowing opportunities this week (only rowing Thursday and Sunday), I'm pretty sure my calorie burn will still be up there. I AM still planning an erg session with SARAHISKIDA tomorrow so I will be getting some rowing type action even though I won't be on the water.
I'm wondering if since my calorie burn is going to be fluctuating week to week if I should start doing a daily/weekly deficit tracking again. It might be more productive than me tossing a guess into SparkPeople and then forging ahead blindly. :) hahaha. I will start doing that tomorrow.
I also realized this morning that TOM is due Wednesday -- *DOH* -- this kinda also explains the ravenousness and carbtastic feelings I've been having as well. :P I definitely ate a ton of refined carbs this morning even though my calorie count is at least close to normal by my estimates... the protein was in low supply. All I could think about was how much I wanted some chocolate. HAHAHA I can't believe it took me so long to realize what time of the month it was. Looking back -- it should have been very obvious.
ANYWAY - regarding rowing, that's been GREAT. Regarding running : oops. I didn't even run 3 times last week. Gotta get my game face on - MARATHON COMING UP, HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm considering following the plan in the Runner's World Summer Training Special instead of the one I was looking at, or at least closer to that. They have a standard intermediate level program and then instructions on how to modify it depending on your goals -- and one of those goals is - first time finisher! It doesn't have any speedwork, runs 4 times a week, and goes up to 20mile long run. I think I might feel better doing at least a LITTLE speed work, but hey -- I can do that if I want to. They're saying 3 easy runs a week and one long run. ? I'm like dude -- I gotta run fast SOMETIME. hahaha I'm just thinking running 4 times a week is more feasible than my 5 times a week schedule I planned on, and more honest considering I haven't actually MET those 5 runs a week very often since starting this plan anyway.
So even if I don't follow the Runner's World Plan exactly, if I do some sort of amalgam, I still think I'm going to shift to a 4 run week instead of a fiver. I'm no superwoman and maybe if I'm setting a more realistic expectation for myself it will be more encouraging to me when I DO run, instead of lingering guilt over "skipping" a run. Ya know?
Anyway, lots of thinking and introspection today, I think the hormones are getting me down a bit as well, but I feel optimistic about the future and ready to really ROCK July and then kick it into official marathon training ZONE at the end of the month going into August. :)
Oh and my blisters are fine. They... unpussed themselves on Saturday later on -- I guess whatever liquid was making them puffy reabsorbed? Cause now I just have the discolored spots but they're flat. And they were fine rowing on Sunday. ALTHOUGH - I got blisters on my right foot from the shoes on the boat. :P I've never really ever gotten any blisters EVER until I started rowing.
Then it was butt blisters, hand blisters, and now foot blisters.
Oh and wherever I forgot to spray bugspray on Saturday I got bit. My feet (*DOH*), the backside of my right thigh, my right KNUCKLE on my HAND... yeah. hahaha. Mostly my legs and arms are fine. :P silly me.
Fireworks = good. Company = good. Cupcakes = I ate a lot of them.
:D HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA hhahaha.

Rowing today was FANTASTIC.
We had a chick boat, and a dude boat (although our female coach did row with the dudes... :P) And we raced. HAHAHAHAHA
Today was the first day EVER that several in my boat had rowed "all 8", which means all eight rowers are rowing simultaneously. Until this point the most I had ever done was 6 at a time. It was HARD! But verrrrrry fun. I got new blisters.
I also caught my first crab! It was a doozy!!! A crab is when your oar gets stuck in the water for some reason and the handle will either -
1) punch you in the gut, face, whatever
2) swing harmlessly and terrifyingly over your head
3) EJECT YOU FROM THE BOAT.
Luckily, I had a number 2 action going on -- it kinda came and I just laid back and let it go over my head, then it spun around and I finally got it under control... this is WHILE we're trying to race the guys. :P But at least I was the second one to crab cause the girl behind me did it first... hahaha but then she thanked me for doing it so she felt better! :D
We lost, but they had more experienced rowers and a couple of competitive (outside of competing within the club even) rowers in their boat. :P I'm just proud of how well we did and our coach and experienced rowers in my boat seemed impressed as well so I'm happy.
I also got in a 3 1/4 mile run in this morning -- I've burned 1400 calories today!!! I haven't tracked any food -- I'm eating healthy, and not too much. I've been busy and not eating when I'm full, so I'm not worried about it.
Tomorrow we will be going to TWO shindigs. :D Our upstairs neighbor invited us to something that will be going on earlier in the day, and then later on we're headed to the Rowing People one.
I'm planning to make a cucumber salad, hummus to go with some Food Should Taste Good THEWORKS chips, and some mini burgers for the "slider" buns I bought on sale. :) WOOT.
Now to go shower and pay attention to the hubby. :)

this morning I went rowing and I realized I needed to go grocery shopping, and couldn't go running in between because I left my running shoes at home so..... anyway by the time I was done shopping and putting away it was HOT HOT HOT outside and I realized - HEY! I'm off work tomorrow! :D I'll run then! WOOHOO.
But when I left rowing to go to Target to do my shopping I realized I'd have time to kill once I got there because Rowing got over at about 7:30 and Target opens at 8AM. After scouting the area I selected a piece of sunny grass in between the Target and Home Depot Parking Lots, laid out a towel I had in the car from my last trip to the aquatic center, and did Pilates! :D
I neglected to work out my core yesterday with all my squeezing it in at work (which went GREAT!!! A total of 3 sets of tricep dips, squats, and wall pushups, and walking lunges! WOOT!), so it was awesome to really work it out. Plus I was laying in the grass under the sun and congratulating myself on making the most of my time. When I got done I looked at the time and it was 8:00. PERFECT!
So tomorrow is running and then rowing in the evening, Saturday we're planning to cookout with the rowing club and possibly shoot some fireworks. :) I haven't decided if I'll row on Sunday yet or not, but I will get a run in to get my 3 that I'm aiming for for this week.
MUST share about my latest obsession -- Cottage Cheese Smoothies. :)
I got creative after I ran out of my tofu and was looking in the fridge... got yogurt, but that's good on it's own for snacks/lunches... anything else creamy? COTTAGE CHEESE. So I looked online to see if anyone else had tried this before (just wanted to make sure it wasn't a horribly gross idea) and I saw a few recipes so I was like - yay! I'll try it!
I like this mix:
3oz 2% Cottage Cheese
3/4 cup of Light Soymilk (plain or vanilla, I liked both)
1/2 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
1 cup frozen fruit (One day was Strawberry Banana, today I ran out of Strawberry Banana at a little less than 1/2 a cup, so I added from another mix I bought of mango/boysenberry/rasberry/blackberry and VOILA!)
About 252 cal and 28g of protein -- and so delicious.
I love the slight taste of the cottage cheese in there... I bet if I were clever enough I could pawn it into some kind of "CHEESECAKE" smoothie. :) Not sure I want to call it that at this stage though, but it IS delicious.
Bought lean beef and mini buns to make burgers for Saturday and gonna make some kind of hummus dip and a cucumber salad... :)
HAPPY 4th to all my fellow USA PEOPLE! :)
(Belated Happy Canada Day to the Canadian folk... I think it's fun you have your day near our day.)
