OK so I did a lot of other stuff. :) I have been spamming my page with tons of pictures and I love it so here's more. HAHAHAHAHA :D
FIRST! The tiny plane. OH MAN. This plane was so small -- I could not stand up anywhere on it -- I was hunched over in the tallest part of the aisle.
Also what's up with the circles? Anyone know?
So anyway -- I get there and after meeting ~*~*LISA*~*~ and going on a very exciting trip to try to find groceries and eating a DELICIOUS sushi lunch (I didn't bring my camera - :( wah!) I decide I'm gonna go on a run -- on a plane all day I was ready to get MOVING!!!!!!!!!
I get dressed and then I'm like -- I need to take a picture of this. The ROBOT COSTUMES in Jen (the BFF)'s living room!!! HAHAHA :D They were so cool.
So I head out on my run - here are the pictures:
After that I did some Pilates. :) WOOT! Then Jen got home and we headed to the beach -- um, but it was freezing cold. The sun was going down and we were like, yeah, ok let's go. hahahaa But I did take a picture of this bird:
And someone running:
The next day was -- BALBOA PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I checked out the Body Worlds Exhibit at the Museum of Natural History -- dude. That was crazy. Bodies that have gone through a plastination process, so you're basically looking at actual bodies of people who donated them. It was NUTS. And there WERE nuts. *HAR HAR* But anyway -- it was really cool but no photo taking allowed. Here's the outside of the museum though:
When I came out of the museum on the other side there was this dude, playing like 5 digeridoo's and beating a drum hanging from his neck:
So then I walked around and saw the Botanical Building and checked that out:
Then I wandered and saw this really pretty garden:
THEN I FOUND THE ARCHERS!!! :D hehehe There was a little archery range off at the back of a parking lot or something.
Then it was off to the Air and Space Museum to meet Mr. Da Vinci...
It was so kind of funny -- when I went to present my ticket the little old man that was working the ticket area was like, so you're here to see Mr. Da Vinci! I was like, YEP! He said,"Well, you're too late. He's been dead for many years". HAHAHA ;) The exhibit was pretty cool -- there were wooden models of over 60 of his designs -- several of them were interactive. Including a BRIDGE building station!
I was kind of bummed when I first started trying to build it because I was like -- I NEED MORE HANDS!!! But I was all by myself. :( BUT! I kept trying and VOILA!
I also stepped inside the Chamber of Mirrors -- apparently the first 360! :D It made me think of Clinton and Stacy of course (What Not to Wear anyone?)
THEN it was on to the regular portion of the Air and Space Museum and I took WAYYYYYYYYYYY too many pictures of planes. I'll just share one photo with you from that -- a self-timer-ed shot of me in a plane. :D WHEE! hahaha
That night was the pre convention meeting, townhouse fun, and then I forgot to mention I went to PINKBERRY with Debbie (S318830). A first for me since they don't exist out here -- very good!!! It tastes tangy like yogurt -- not sweet like ice cream -- but it's froyo so the texture is the same as other froyo.
Then it was on to an 80's party!!! Picture of myself to commemorate. HAHA
Skip to Sunday -- downtown w/ my BFF! YAY!
She does not own a car so uses Public Transportation every day! :) Here's to the bus!
We actually spent more time on the trolley but I didn't take any pictures of it.
We checked out Horton Plaza Mall:
I was able to pick up a top from XXI Forever. WOOT.
Hit up Urban Outfitters -- where I tried on a ton of pants/jeans -- they were having a sale. None of the tops left were right for me, and most of the pants didn't fit (too short, baggy crotch, ONE too small, ONE too big) - but one was perfect. And on sale for $9.95. SO! :D PURCHASED! WOOT!
Then we DID go to the Ghiradelli Ice Cream Shop.... and I will spare you the picture of what I purchased there but it can be seen by following the link I'll give later. ;) HAHAHA.
Then Monday was Pacific Beach!!! :D You've seen a couple photos from that day with Krissy, but first we hit up the Pier.
MY LEGS ARE SO PALE! :D HAHAHA
This next picture was taken by this cute old man who on his first attempt, pressed the power button instead. oops! hhehe :)
Later that night it was HOMEMADE PIZZA TIME!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Look at these gorgeous toppings - that would be red onion, green pepper, black olives, baby bellas, pineapple, and banana peppers:
SO GOOD! :D
That pretty much sums everything up.

So that was my SparkCon blog and now my blog about the race! :)
Here we are before the race, prior to warming up and stretching and all that -- starting together was Debbie (S318830), me, and Robin (KASHMIR).
We were all like -- HECK YEAH FULL LENGTH. ;) hahahaa
Here you can see the mob at the starting line -- there were over 2500 people who were registered participants in the race at LEAST.
I said, HEY ROBIN! :)
And then as happened more than once on my trip someone offered to take a picture of us together so here we are with the crowd right before the start:
AND WE'RE OFF!!!
I was trying to keep things mellow, but I also felt like I was probably going faster then I should after the initial SLOG of getting started before things opened up. I was sure that Robin would finish before me and so I just tried to stay close to her.
Here are some pretty sights from the part of the run through Balboa Park:
ANOTHER SPARKER FOUND US!!! I totally remembered her from the morning run before the convention, but I don't know her SparkName -- tell me if you see this!!! **SHE FOUND ME!!! It's KARENPLEW! YAY!!** She came up, said HI SPARKERS!! and then sped off leaving us in her dust. ;) HAHAHA
Check out all the people up the road through the arch even!
Well sometime around here I decided to pull back a bit and Robin went ahead. I could continue to see her in front of me, but I also had a TWINGE in my knee and was like CRAP I'm gonna have to walk. I walked for about a minute, and started running again, it still kinda hurt, but I just kept going. Then there was a hill and a great song came on and I POWERED on up that hill! My leg started feeling better! :D YAY! At some point I caught up with Robin again, too.
Then later we get onto the FREEWAY!!!!!!! :D
It really was about as historic and beautiful as a freeway can get -- look at this beautiful arch -
Then Robin tells me we hit the halfway mark -- well, she tells me 2.6 miles done! :D WOOHOO!!!!! I start getting super pumped and pulling ahead. At this point it was like a total revelation for me as far as racing goes.
For the first time ever I passed people who were actually jogging. (Well I might've passed a couple earlier too, but still -- this is the FIRST TIME this has happened.) I also started picking people to pass. Yep, I'm faster than you. SEE YA! :D HAHAHAHA. There was an older man wearing a shirt that had the "NO WHINING" symbol on the back -- ya know, whining in a circle with a line through it? I kept my eye on him and tried to get as close to him as possible, definitely didn't pass him.
Then we start to see signs of Downtown!
I kept pushing myself, saying to myself that I felt good and I could work hard as long as I wasn't hurting -- and I wasn't, so I was PUSHING it. I've never run a race this distance and it was kind of cool to be able to push at this pace for that long -- ALSO this IS the longest distance run so far this year as well. :)
I see the finish line!
WOOHOO!!! No more pictures taken until the race was over. :) I was 100% focused on ROCKING this final stretch. I was smiling and booking it. hahaha.
Overall: 1325 out of 2668
Women: 638 out of 1603
F25-29: 123 out of 252
Age/Grade: 44.08% Place: 1367
Finish: 54:39 Pace: 11:00
Tag Time: 54:39
Gun Time: 55:39
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!! an 11 min mile for 5 miles???? My fasted 5K that I've run to date was 33:26 I think. :D HAHAHA That is AWESOME!!! I was soooo stoked! This is with a walk break at the beginning and a slower pace for some pain at the start, then walking through the first water station and slowing for the second. HOLY COW!
Right after the finish:
Then I walked up to look for Robin. Here she is approaching the finish line:
She was expecting to run a little over 12 min miles but finished in like... 58 something I think. :D ALSO TOTALLY JAZZED!!!! She's been running for over a year, is currently training for a half, but this was her FIRST RACE!!!!!!! YAY ROBIN!!!!
Freaking Debbie ran just under 10min miles -- ROCKSTAR.
Here we are right after Robin finished:
NOW it's time for the POST RACE FESTIVITIES over at Pantoja Park.
First thing we got handed -- a free LOAF OF BREAD. HAHAHA :D
Then we begin walking around and see heaven:
THANK YOU, BREADSTICK GUY!!! :D *nomnom*
There was a band:
Then we see a long line and people walking away with bags and we're like, sweet! This must be the goodie bag line!
Turns out this line was for the bag -- the empty plastic bag itself to put our stuff in. HAHAHAHA.
Then we see heaven #2:
We stood around and got our free 5 min massages. :) MMMMM.
Then we grabbed our shirts, bananas, and THE LAST THREE TIGER MILK BARS. hahaha :D So lucky!
Then it was time to wait for the shuttle back to Balboa Park. We talked fitness and other stuff -- Debbie got down on the sidewalk and demonstrated some ab moves. ;) I didn't get a picture of that - DANGIT. hahaha
But here I am with our shuttle bus! HAHA
I was SOOOOO happy about the way the race went, but even better was getting to do it with two such AWESOME Sparkers!!!!!! :D I'm so glad I got to meet you two and spend a longer time with you! :)

Ok -- so this blog is going to be focused on the actual convention related events and not the more personal stuffs. :) SO!
First things first -- MEET JOCELYN!!! :D
I met up with Jocelyn (WOLFKITTY) downtown and we headed to the Townhouse that Greg (KSIGMA1222) rented for the night for SparkPeople to meet to say hi and see if anyone was there yet before going to the Convention Center.
The townhouse was TOTALLY GORGEOUS. Here is the front sitting room --
Greg was in the patio grilling up chicken!
The first meetings of Sparkers!
Then we headed over to the actual Convention Center to meet up with Jenny and the other SparkExperts Etc. in preparation for the Convention the next day. At first we meet outside for the first time with our fellow panel members. :) Debbie (S318830) walks outside and is like I KNOW YOU! And we're like WE KNOW YOU!!! hahaha. :D We head inside and see SPARKGUY and the other SparkExperts, etc. :) It was pretty surreal.
For some reason I didn't realize Coach Nicole was tall...
The lady on the right here is Jenny -- she is the one who guided us Panel Members through EVERYTHING! She's the greatest! :)
Then we headed back to the Townhouse to hang out again for a little while.
Here are some of us out on the patio -- Don (DDOORN) and Greg (KSIGMA1222) in the back and Leah (SPRING4FAL), me, and Violet (SPARKLINGVIOLET) in the front.
It was funnnn!!! :D So fun to meet SparkPeople and get to know them in person. The whole thing was definitely a bit surreal because you are meeting some people that you know wayyy more about than anyone you've ever met for the first time face to face. :) So the first starts of conversation can be a little weird.
In here is Chris to the left, then Debbie (S318830), Karen, Violet (SPARKLINGVIOLET), and Robin (KASHMIR).
Then the next morning it was UP bright and early to be picked up by Jocelyn on the way to the Convention Center for the pre-convention Walk/Run! :)
Tim and Violet led the walk:
And SP_NANCY led the run:
And we were off!!! :D We ran down the street and a little loop around the Marina -- it was gorgeous!
I snapped a bunch of pictures while we were running, but here are a couple of us stopped at crosswalks. :)
After the run we took a couple quick pictures, like this one of me and Jocelyn with some Spark Volunteers! :D
Then Jocelyn and I headed off to a secluded bathroom to freshen up and get CUTE because we knew presentation time was approaching quickly. :)
We headed up to the room and people were just arriving, but it was packed later - TRUST ME. :)
Here is the SparkStore:
And the SPARK WHEEL!!! Live and in PERSON! :D
I won 100 SparkPoints! :)
Yes -- you actually got a bunch of SparkPoints for attending different activities throughout the day and spinning the SparkWheel -- which reminds me I haven't added mine yet! hahaha :D
The first Speaker was Chris "SPARKGUY" Downie:
*******More of MY pictures from the events above can be seen at
Afterwhich we had a short break, which included a Stretch Session led by Coach Nicole! :)
At this point us panel members were getting pretty nervous because we were preparing to go up next!!! I actually took the previous picture from the hallway!!! :) I got a view pictures of us on stage from some fellow sparkers!
Oh man you can't see my face, I'm trying to use the clicker. HAHAHA :D
Well after that I was pretty thrilled -- things went well. There was some phototaking and then it was time to EAT LUNCH and also film video interviews they were doing with successful sparkers (including the panel members, but there were several other members as well).
This is me and ~*~*LISA*~*~ : she is the fabulous, fabulous lady who picked me up at the airport and took me to the grocery store to get some food and all that good stuff. She is SUPER SUPER NICE!
And this is probably RIGHT after eating lunch -- it was gorgeous outside and apparently I was super happy. HAHAHA :D
Jocelyn brought one of her old shirts to show off in her video interview and we decided that we could both fit and proved it with a quick selftimer photo. :)
My video interview went pretty well -- they had me pose with both legs in one leg of my old pants, *a la WOLFKITTY*, and then when they asked me to say thank you into the camera to SparkPeople... um... I cried. HAHAHAHAHA oh man that was kind of embarrassing, but the Video people were EATING IT UP. ;)
I missed the workout, the SparkExperts panel, and walk -- the lunch break activities. But then in the afternoon SP_NANCY gave a great talk -- she was wonderful!!! And I LOOOOOOOOOVE her southern accent. :) It made me feel at home. HAHAHA. Then it was SP Nutrition Expert Becky Hand -- who I DO have a picture of speaking:
As you can see she was very animated and engaging -- it was fun! :)
Then there was a speaker that I kind of zoned out on for the first part of her talk -- I was getting tired and she is some kind of life coach/author -- Cheryl Richardson. I was thinking I would not be into her talk and she wasn't a SparkPerson plus I was getting kinda tired at this point... but then about halfway through I tuned in and I really enjoyed listening to her speak! :D Glad I didn't miss the whole thing! HAHAHA.
Then Chris got back on stage and talked about the book -- also there was a special sparkperson guest... Elle Newman? I think? She talked about how she changed her life with SparkPeople and it affected other areas of her life -- she took control of her career as an author and made things happen resulting in a book out there on Amazon and getting signed with a publishing house (can't remember which one)... but anyway -- back to Chris and the book -- I did kinda think I was gonna not really care about the book, but hearing more about it I definitely am excited. :) I think it might be something that turns into a frequent gifting item for me for sure!
THEN!!!!! MORE PICTURES and mingling and meeting other Sparkers, etc. You got SparkGoodie cards in your goodie bag and they had a place on the back to write your SparkName so I was out trying to give all mine away and get some in return. They are all sitting at home and I haven't had a chance to friend everyone yet, but it will happen!!!! :)
Here are some pictures from that Post-Convention time:
Sparksperts and Volunteers!
Me and my GOOD SPARKFRIEND WHATAGRL42!!!! SOOOOooooo excited to meet her and it was wonderful!!! :) She is the most longterm SparkFriend I met at the convention, followed by WOLFKITTY, and then almost everyone else I had never SparkFriended until I had heard of the convention or AT the convention.
Me and an unexpected SparkFriend at the Convention!! FLIPFLOPPER48 who is a longtime member of my team the Challenge of Harry Potter! :D
Met this guy -- here's us and then the picture of his backpack!!! :D How cool is that???
Me and the lovely Robin (KASHMIR)!
Me and an awesome chick named Sara that I met that day (SPATULASARA)!
Another picture of me and SparkGuy because I couldn't remember if I got one the day before... hahaha
The Member Panel!
This is L-R: Debbie (S318830), Stacey (STACEY-P), Jocelyn (WOLFKITTY), Leah (SPRING4FAL), and me!!! :)
Becky, me, and Nicole!
AND OH YEAH!!! The HUDDLE BANNER!!!! :) They had it set up with Markers and everyone HUDDLED on it throughout the day. :)
SO!!!!!! THAT WAS THE CONVENTION!!!!!!!!!! :D It was pretty freaking awesome.
Afterward a group of us Sparkers went out to find sustinence and ended up at a delicious Indian food place called Gourmet India. :) I took a bunch of pictures in there but I'm gonna keep it simple and post this one of us all together:
This is L-R: Leah (SPRING4FAL), Sara(SPATULASARA), Jocelyn (WOLFKITTY), Karen (KGROTHE), ME!, Debbie (S318830), Chris(AUNTC321), and Greg (KSIGMA1222).
Greg's friend Mitch came to meet up with Greg and got stuck taking pictures of us with everyone's camera. :) He was such a good sport!!! This is the same person who on Friday gave me a ride to Balboa Park (pictures of that excursion and more in another blog entry). :)
But check it - I was TOTALLY STOKED about that Indian Food! :D HAHAHAHAHA
