21 Days, 16 workdays till SPARKCON! ;)

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Today was my "light" day at the gym and I burned 574 cal. It was actually more than that because I forgot to start my HRM for a good 5-10 min, but I decided to let those calories be a BONUS burn. :) So now I'm nearly halfway through my 4000 calorie goal for the week. Still 2 runs, 2 MTC's and a Pilates minimum left this week. So ROCK.

I was a little below calories both today and yesterday. I was really surprised when I entered in what I ate last night and was still below! I was under on CARBS of all things. Granted -- we ate a practically ENTIRELY protein dinner. Um... eggs, bacon, canadian bacon... hahaha. We had just the last bits of the bacon and canadian bacon left and were out of bread so... yeah.

I made a list today of things to pack for my trip. :) HAHAHAHA. :D I'm so excited, it's ridiculous...

AND SO HUNGRY!!!! 10min till lunch!

Edited to add: MY HRM! :D

The Polar F4 for Women

It cost about $100.00, my friend just got a blue one for $89.99 at a Dick's Sporting Goods. I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest Polar model that still tracks calories burned. Anything less than that and you're likely to get something that JUST measures current Heart Rate.

Hi ya! Glad you are kicking butt, burning calories, you go girl!

Question about your super cute heart rate monitor - does that heart rate monitor require a chest strap?

Oooh, and since you have a heart rate monitor, how many calories does it say you burn on the arc trainer? Any idea what the Mets reading is?

Hmmm, forgetting to eat enough. Or not bothering. Wow, I wonder what that is like.....maybe someday.....

I would be excited about your upcoming trip, too! It will be so much fun, you will meet so many great people, and offer so much inspiration to so many. I would be packing already, and then shopping for new stuff, so I have to repack, and on and on until we either ran out of money or it was time to go!

Thanks for the info on the HRM....now that I know there is a good one out there for a reasonable price I will definitely put it on my birthday wish list!

My mind is so tough! RAWR!

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

So today I planned to run indoors -- I knew I would be sucking it up running around a track for 30min. I only made it 2 1/3 miles, but I was DEFINITELY pulling it back the WHOLE time trying to keep my HR in the 150's. It'd creep up to the 160's and I'd pull it back. The best part was letting it kinda fly in the last half lap. :D I had so much power left! And of course, I was able to go nonstop for the 30min -- no stretching or bathroom breaks. haha. I love that I've got this marathon in mind down the road -- it really is the kicker when it comes to being mentally weak. Are you whining???? How are you gonna do that Marathon if you can't handle this!!! And then my inner whiner sucks it up and gets going. :)

Then it was straight into MTC. I have the rest of this week, then next week, and then the last TWO DAYS and I'm DONE with this challenge. Feels good to be really doing this.

But this week's MTC seems to be... less intense? I'm burning a lot less calories than I anticipated this week and finishing the MTC circuits sooner. So far I'm only about 800 cal behind what I've been doing in the previous two weeks, and those weeks I burned over 1000cal more than what my tracker was set to, so so far no worries. But I think I'm still going to do a bit more tomorrow than just yoga -- I can definitely handle it because my body is MUCH less sore and in need of the super stretching/light workout tomorrow than it has been in the last two weeks as well. And we'll see where I am -- I can always add some more cardio on Saturday after Pilates if need be. Aside from tomorrows workout I still have TWO runs, TWO MTC Days, and Pilates, so I should be good to go.

In other news, I've dropped another 2lbs of the water weight so far, so I'm back within maintenance range, just wanna get the rest of it gone. :D Although this next week is TOM and around the end of this week/beginning of next is usually up for me so I might not really see it until end of next week or the week after. No biggie.

I'm here for maintenace -- this is a long term vision and dropping water weight is not something I'm going to devote that much worry to. SO THERE. TAKE THAT, SCALE! hahaha.

Counting down the days till the Convention -- I'm getting psyched to try to go look around San Diego on my own/with SparkFriends as well. :) My best friend that I'm staying with couldn't get off of work, so I will be looking for ways to entertain myself while she's at work -- other than the convention and the 8K that I registered for of course. WOOT! :D

Let's hear it for your Marathon Mind! When I read the title of your blog and then the first paragraph my mind immediately went to a cheer the guys in our Civil War group offer up rarely to special honorees. Usually it's three cheers (huzzah! huzzah! huzzah!) But sometimes the Colonel adds "Give 'em the Tiger" and 300 men shout "RAWR!" So let me give you the Tiger: RAWR!

Those dang inner whiners - if only I could outrun mine. But she just climbs on my back, enjoys the ride, and then complains if the run gets too long. Snotty little thing.

Okay, this next bit falls under TMI but your potty break comment made me think of it....Was in a rush this morning and didn't take the time for a proper potty break before I took off for my run (how's that for being delicate?!) Got about 2 1/2 miles in and realized that I really ought to have taken the time. But no potties around. Closest one is in my house. 'Cause I am so not using the bushes on the side of the trail as my own private bathroom! Spent the last mile running with my cheeks clenched (sorry for that picture) but I made it - all four miles AND got to the potty in time.

So much for me posing as lady-like and proper! emoticon

What Am I Celebrating Today?

The fact that now unflattering candids are about me making a weird face, or claw like hands. A bunch of pictures just got posted with me in them on facebook from the party on Friday night, and I will show you the one that I find the least flattering... and it's not bad at all!!! :D I love the fact that I can randomly be photographed without knowing it and even LIKE most of the pictures... that is amazing. But FIRST: A look at what an unflattering candid USED to be like....

SEE THE LEFT HAND IMAGE

And now?

Yeah, I'm making some kind of weird clawlike hand and I'm awkwardly mid DDR on a fake cardboard DDR pad, and have crazy devil red eyes... but not too shabby??? hahaha.

So I'm not, OH MY GOSH LOOK AT MY ROLLS anymore. You know? I was always before, can you see all my bodily flaws? It's not that I don't take bad pictures anymore, but the things that make them bad aren't things I'm picking apart about my body. You know what I mean?

Disappointed.

Monday, April 06, 2009

I'm still feeling pretty disappointed with my eating habits at the party on Friday night. UGH. I need to really work on my party eating. I do well pretty much every other scenario!!! Luckily I'm not at parties enough that it shows too much of an impact for me ever. Usually it's just my splurge that week and I'm back to normal soon. It's still frustrating to be behaving in a way that I know is not in sync with my healthy lifestyle habits. I'm still not sure what the disconnect is. *shrug* But I'm aware of it. And hopefully as I continue this lifelong journey I will be able to make some strides in that area.

As for today, my scale is reading higher than my maintenance range, but good old common sense and math tells me this is not a legitimate gain, it is water retention. I'm sure I'll be back down to my normal weight by at least Thursday this week. :P It's still frustrating to be working so hard and see that kind of a number on the scale. But let's see -- on Friday my estimated sodium was 6006mg, I didn't track Saturday but a lot of Friday's calories were consumed after 3AM so I'm sure it didn't help Saturday's sodium count out at all, and then yesterday (although I stayed within cal ranges) my sodium was over 5500.

At my new higher cal range I'm normally between 2300-2600mg of sodium each day so yeah. I'm not surprised I'm having a bloat. :P It's just irritating.

I'm manaically counting down to the CONVENTION! WOOT! :D I'm so excited. I just found out from the friend I'm staying with that she will not be able to take off of work, so I will be looking for some more interesting things to do during the day as well. :D

Um, I guess that's about it for now.

Also it's cold here again. :( Highs only up to like 50 degrees apparently. So I'm kinda bummed it looks like I'll be running indoors again. WAH. I don't have any cold weather running gear. :P Plus it aggravates my nearly always dormant asthma.

Dana, you crack me up! 50 degrees!?!?! I'd be outside in shorts!! LOL! Like I said on LAFTERSFREE's blog today too -- NO WORRIES!! As you said.. You are acknowledging it and know where you slipped up! That's all you need to keep remembering to do for the rest of your life. Nothing is permanent -- you proved that with losing all of the weight that you did and in keeping it off for as long as you have. YOU'RE DOING SO GREAT!! One little slip up weekend isn't going to change that!

Here's to a being back to NORMAL!!

Why is it so freaking hard to break old "social eating" habits? I have plenty of discipline when it's just me, but stick me around 1, 2, 10 "outside" people (not in my immediate family) and all sense gets thrown to the wind. Like you said though, acknowledging that is a huge part of being healthy overall. I like what MARLIE said, too, about at least now KNOWING you went off track and pulling yourself back on before it just gets out of hand (ok, i'm still learning that one!)

Here's hoping Spring decides to come soon, huh?

Isn't it a great start that your weeks always include healthy food choices and ranges and then you have a splurge but get right back on track? I don't know about you but when I was 250 plus, if I had a splurge day, I didn't acknowledge it as such...it was just another day in my life. lol! Know what I mean? I know I'm always harping on this but most of it is for my own benefit. We've come a loooooonnngggg way and need to be patient with ourselves as we learn completely new ways to respond to food. I would have thought I'd have it all down by now too. Patience huh? lol! I'm excited for convention too because I know your accounts of it are going to be awesome!

i was feeling pretty guilty about the party as well, i actually posted a blog about it a few mins b4 coming to your page. i feel worse about what i ate the days following the party than during the actual party itself, but dont fret, we're both gonna be super back on track in no time!!! im happy to be home, where i can prepare the foods i want and need, rather than just eating whatever. i think im gonna try to stick around here the next few weekends and refocus on my eating/exercise habits. those pizza rolls killed me, the funny thing is that i dont even really like them, but by that point i was just so drunk and tired i dont think i barely even knew what i was putting in my mouth, but damn the ice cream sandwich was totally worth it, in my opinion :-)

At least you kept your bad eating to one party on Friday night. I was bad pretty much all weekend. I weighed Saturday and Sunday, but was scared today.

Anyway, splurging on Friday night is not going to mess you up. Splurging at a party weekly isn't going to mess you up. Our bodies are shaped by what we do the majority of the time, not once at a party :). So honestly, is it even something you should care about working on in the future?

I have to warn you that my poor computer hasn't recovered from the soup bath, so I've no numbers and limited punctuaton, which makes things really hard exclamation mark

I think you go to the party and want to have fun, which means taking a holiday from healthy eating. Or you think , "Oh, I never see thiese sorts of foods normally, so it's ok if I eat them now" or you feel a bit nervous or shy and eat to cover those feelings. Once you know what it is that's going through your mind subconciously, you'll be better able to deal with the beahviour. In any event, it's a small part of your life, and you're doing great overall exclamation mark emoticon

I know you'll get your party eating figured out. When you do, you'll have to tell us what your strategy is- I haven't had to deal with a party situation yet this year. Like you, we don't party much. We BBQ tons, luckily it is usually easier to find healthy choices at a BBQ than a party.
You're going to have such a great time at the convention! (at least you can be pretty sure they won't be serving pizza rolls there! ha ha)

Try eating a healthy snack before the party to keep the munchies at bay. I also try to concentrate on the people around me more than the food table.

But as you say, it's an occasional thing, so not too damaging. You'll figure out a strategy.

No Air Show for me.

Sunday, April 05, 2009

I'm realllly kind of bummed because I've been looking forward to this for MONTHS now.

But we decided to go today because we stayed so late at the party on Friday night and today the weather is awful. :( WAH.

Also I updated my nutrition tracker with a guesstimate for my intake on Friday night. It's kind of scary so be WARNED. I also made a long note about it ON the tracker so I'm not going to repeat myself here.

I think I'm gonna clean our bathrooms today.

Also I didn't track yesterday but I'm confident I was definitely UNDER on calories. And I ate mostly very clean.

Back to 100% tracking today.

On having a crappy day and how to deal with it. From Ralph Walso Emerson:

Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities
no doubt have crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.

Tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely
and with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with
your old nonsense.

This day is all that is
good and fair.
It is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on yesterdays.

Here's wishing you a today that is, indeed all that is good and fair. Even with lousy weather and no air show.
