Shiny Sink

Monday, January 16, 2012

I just caught on to the fact that our blogs for the 5% Challenge are supposed to be about new habits.
emoticon
No problem. I always seem to be working on developing new habits or breaking bad ones. I think it's called life or something.

Lately I've been working on shining the sink before I go to bed. No dirty dishes left undone, not even the cup and spoon from my usual evening hot chocolate. I know, you Flylady fans will say that's Flying 101. But it's always good to go back to basics. Marla would agree, I'm sure.

It makes me smile in the morning to find a clean sink when I go into the kitchen to make my breakfast and pack my lunch.
emoticon
Speaking of which, that morning time is going to come pretty fast if I don't get to bed. Aha...another habit to work on - a more reasonable bedtime!

There is nothing that I hate worse than to wake up to a messy sink, I always try to have it spotless before I go to bed. Good habit.

Yep, housekeeping may not be my forte, but a clean empty sink is something I've gotten pretty good at ensuring! :-)

I saw your blog title & wondered if you were a flybaby!! emoticon I just started flying back in November. I am trying really hard to keep my sink shiney this month. Last night I actually got that accomplished. I was smiling & proud of myself when I saw my shiney sink this morning. Keep it up, Michelle!

Like you, I just caught onto that fact about blogging as well! Whoops. Love the clean sink habit! I could definitely see where it would be nice coming downstairs to a clean one every more. Reasonable bedtime. CHECK. Thanks for reminding me to cultivate my own habit in that regard.

Well if we are confessing to cleaning issues, I will admit that I have a strange obsession with making sure that the bathroom trash basket is always emptied...not sure where that came from.

I am on board with needing to get a better sleep routine, and I am looking forward to reuniting with my pillow tonight! emoticon

Oh my gosh, are we sisters separated at birth. I hate to wake up to anything in the sink. Before I go to bed I make one last pass in the kitchen. Usually works unless you no who gets a midnight snack..and that is not me I am taking about! emoticon

Lovely idea, I think I'm going to adopt it, if you don't mind. I do clean up, but not quite so strictly. But the shiny sink idea is very appealing, and it's only a few minutes more than what I'm currently doing.

My "nice to come home to" is a made bed. If I do nothing else (housework related) in the morning, I make the bed. It always makes the room look neater somehow.

Once you "get the habit", it's quick and not so much of a chore any more, but pays off so much in satisfaction. Mick Jagger should have tried making his bed or cleaning a sink. emoticon

Foodie

Sunday, January 15, 2012

This is how the salad with the quinori turned out. (I didn't remember the avocado till after I took the photo.)

It was pretty and tasty. Or shall I say IS pretty and tasty. There's enough for at least 3 more meals. Note to self: make half next time unless you're going to be sharing it!

Now that I've posted a pic of a new recipe I tried, I feel like a real "foodie"!

The Same Old Pound

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's blog. I cooked up the quinori and made a simple salad with about a cup of it. It's quite tasty, although I may have overcooked it a little. The sesame seeds keep it on the crunchy side, though. I think I would like it even more if it were only red quinoa which seems to have quite a nutty taste.

Tomorrow after church I'll make the OSG recipe that I posted yesterday. Had to go to the store for a couple of ingredients between seminar sessions at church so there wasn't time to put it together.

The same old pound has come back again this week. I'm really getting tired of losing it over and over again. So I'm not going to --- I'm going to lose it and NOT gain it back, and then lose the rest of the weight that I want to. Can I get an "Amen" on that? (especially from my Firecracker friends!)

Please Pass the Quinori?

Friday, January 13, 2012

Trying something new:

:

I found some great salad recipes, including this one, on "Oh She Glows" - a vegan food and fitness blog:
ohsheglows.com/2011/01/21/red-quinoa
-and-black-bean-vegetable-salad/

It calls for red quinoa. I went on a search for it but couldn't find the red sort, just the white, and then this interesting looking mixture of white and red quinoa, rice, sesame and bits of dried chickpeas. I'll let you know how it tastes tomorrow!

I love quinoa. I just have the white kind. My DH is not real crazy about it. I added to the pot of soup last night, and he had no clue it was even in there. I even asked him did he like
the soup, and he did. Haven't seen this kind before. Enjoy!

Wow please do let us know how this is. I just bought a bag of the regular quinoa and am eager to give it a try. We are certainly not eating vegan yet, lol, but well on our way to being ovolacto vegetarians or as I tell DH, heathytarians!
I still use some ground turkey now and then as well. Using lots of greens, grains and beans!
Thanks for the blog link!!

A Thought

A friend posted this on Facebook today. A good thought as the end of the year approaches. What are you reading today?
