Foodie

Sunday, January 15, 2012

This is how the salad with the quinori turned out. (I didn't remember the avocado till after I took the photo.)

It was pretty and tasty. Or shall I say IS pretty and tasty. There's enough for at least 3 more meals. Note to self: make half next time unless you're going to be sharing it!

Now that I've posted a pic of a new recipe I tried, I feel like a real "foodie"!

The Same Old Pound

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's blog. I cooked up the quinori and made a simple salad with about a cup of it. It's quite tasty, although I may have overcooked it a little. The sesame seeds keep it on the crunchy side, though. I think I would like it even more if it were only red quinoa which seems to have quite a nutty taste.

Tomorrow after church I'll make the OSG recipe that I posted yesterday. Had to go to the store for a couple of ingredients between seminar sessions at church so there wasn't time to put it together.

The same old pound has come back again this week. I'm really getting tired of losing it over and over again. So I'm not going to --- I'm going to lose it and NOT gain it back, and then lose the rest of the weight that I want to. Can I get an "Amen" on that? (especially from my Firecracker friends!)

The salad sounds good. I made a great Barley/Citrus salad last week and it was good with our baked fish.

Do have a lovely day.

Please Pass the Quinori?

Friday, January 13, 2012

Trying something new:

:

I found some great salad recipes, including this one, on "Oh She Glows" - a vegan food and fitness blog:
ohsheglows.com/2011/01/21/red-quinoa
-and-black-bean-vegetable-salad/

It calls for red quinoa. I went on a search for it but couldn't find the red sort, just the white, and then this interesting looking mixture of white and red quinoa, rice, sesame and bits of dried chickpeas. I'll let you know how it tastes tomorrow!

I love quinoa. I just have the white kind. My DH is not real crazy about it. I added to the pot of soup last night, and he had no clue it was even in there. I even asked him did he like
the soup, and he did. Haven't seen this kind before. Enjoy!

Wow please do let us know how this is. I just bought a bag of the regular quinoa and am eager to give it a try. We are certainly not eating vegan yet, lol, but well on our way to being ovolacto vegetarians or as I tell DH, heathytarians!
I still use some ground turkey now and then as well. Using lots of greens, grains and beans!
Thanks for the blog link!!

A Thought

A friend posted this on Facebook today. A good thought as the end of the year approaches. What are you reading today?

Joy!

Saturday, December 24, 2011

I've tried to visit lots of Spark buddies' pages to leave goodies and greetings but I may not make it around to everyone before the holiday. So, let me wish a very Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate! And much joy to all those who are anticipating a happy new year during this holiday season.

"Let every heart prepare him room..." is one of my favorite lines of one of my favorite carols. How do you do that?

I've been teaching English to a young Japanese woman this past week and we were discussing how holidays are celebrated in her country. She talked about the tradition of cleaning house before the New Year, as a symbol of making a fresh start.

I know that I have some baggage lying around that I don't want to take with me into the new year. And I'm not just referring to physical clutter. I want to make room for more of the joy of the Lord - the joy He wants to bring to my heart. Time to get rid of any fears, worries, hurts, and "stinkin' thinkin'" and let the Lord renew my mind.

What better time than the days between the holidays!? I'm glad that I have a light schedule at the language school in the week ahead so I can spend some time doing both kinds of housecleaning!

The past couple of weeks have been very busy and I haven't been on Spark much. Lots of reasons - or excuses? - including a bum knee (caused, I think, by my new insoles that are supposed to help with my foot pain?!) My motivation has been low and I've eaten too many sweets. Gained a kilo! Ugh - Not waiting till the new year to put an end to that trend! On the plus side, all the busy-ness has included extra teaching hours that have helped with finances. With tuition for my exams coming up, this is a GOOD thing.

I'm going to church this afternoon at 4PM, then will have Christmas Eve dinner with friends. (Today is the day that's celebrated here in Germany.) Tomorrow I'll be relaxing at home and starting that housecleaning process, as well as making calls to family and friends in the States. En -JOY- ing the day of Jesus' birth!!

I think all of us could use more of the JOY that God wants to fill our hearts with, at least I know I certainly do! The enemy would steal that joy at every opportunity via all of the things you mentioned (fears, worries, hurts, and 'stinkin thinkin'). It is such a positive and motivational thought to join you and allow God to also renew my mind also of the same things! Thank you for sharing my dear friend! God's grace is sufficient and He will indeed help us accomplish this task! God bless you. Hugs, Shirley

My husband like to use the term, "stinkin thinkers" too. It is so easy to let others pull us down rather than us pull them up.

Yes, it is time to declutter and start this year new and afresh in Christ. I am so thankful that God gives us the chance to start over each time we really need to.

Blessings to you this Chirstmas season.
