Happy Bastille Day!

Saturday, July 14, 2007

My dad reminded me in an email that today is the French national holiday. He grew up there, so he always remembers, but I forgot this year, even though my boss at the language school is also French. Vive la France!

Summer has returned, just in time for tomorrow's annual outdoor worship service "Gottesdienst im Grünen." It has gotten rained out a couple of years in a row, so we're grateful for answered prayers and that we'll be able to celebrate out in the fresh air and sunshine this time. I'm planning to use a LOT of sunblock because the stage will be facing the hot morning sun.

Today was the first day in a looong time that we had frozen smoothie weather. I made one for dinner- it was delicious! Vanilla yoghurt, a frozen banana, a half cup of frozen raspberries, 1/2 cup of soy milk, a splash of sweetener. Something tells me that this is going to be a favorite hot day meal substitute!

Good Report!

I had great news today! On Monday, I had my cholesterol levels checked and today I called the doctor for the results, My levels have gone down considerably since January (Total 281-232 with a goal of under 199, LDL: 171-136 with a goal of under 130). If you read my Sparkpage, you'll see that the cholesterol check back in January was a huge reason for my getting on the weight loss and exercise wagon.

So the weight loss and exercise is really making a difference. The doctor even asked me how I did it! At first he thought that they had prescribed pills but then he saw in my record that they hadn't.

This is a great motivation to keep up with the SP program! It's not all about the scale and the jeans that fit - it's about being healthy and living the best life God meant me to live. Praise Him!

I was starting to feel a little sad because no one had visited my SparkPage or left a comment. Just today I realized that there was no link to my page on my posts, and that my page wasn't in the members directory. Changed that...time to fix some tea and cybercookies and hope I have some company :)

We wrapped up the course on Instructional Design yesterday. The course, the instructor, the interaction with the other students - it was all great. I know that what I learned will also impact my teaching in a positive way. I'm looking forward to applying the principles of "transformational learning." I have one month to finish my final project but I've got a good head start.

P.S. Still no couch.

Goal Met!

Today's my birthday and I made it - 30 minutes of daily exercise since April 30! The past couple of days have been pretty hard but the Lord has helped me persevere and Spark People have given me lots of support along the way. So glad I found this site!

I think the winter months might be especially challenging, but I'm going to see if I can continue till the end of the year.

I did have a teenie piece of cake this morning - we celebrated in the coffee break at the seminary. In Germany, you bring your own cake, so I baked a carrot cake and recruited one of the senior ladies at the church to make her famous raspberry torte. Hope to celebrate with friends here at home on the weekend - but only if my new couch arrives and that's looking doubtful. So---may have to stretch my birthday out till the following weekend ;)
