New Month

Sunday, July 01, 2007

New month, new challenges! I'm aiming for 1000 cardio minutes in July. I'll continue my daily exercise challenge, too, maybe shoot for a total of 200 days. That will bring me close to goal weight time.

It's amazing how submitting to disciplne in one area of your life leads to better functioning in the others as well. Prayer time flows more smoothly and insights into scripture seem to come more easily. I've been able to accomplish baby steps toward decluttering the apartment. And I keeping better track of spending and finances.

My seminary course is excellent and I've been doing really well on packing lunches and preparing ahead for the evening meals at home.

I'm fitting into all my smaller size clothes now, except for one T-Shirt dress and a khaki skirt that was always a little too tight. It won't be long and it will fit fines. I don't want to/can't afford to do any major clothes shopping right now but I'm getting a little concerned about my underwear situation =:o

I'd like to do better in those areas too. I really desire to have a deep prayer life, a decluttered apartment, and good spending habits -- generally, a more disciplined me. I had a bit of a headstart for these goals a few weeks ago, but now everything's a mess again and I don't quite know how to begin or retrace my steps. Please send me whatever tips you can give whenever you remember them. :) Thanks! I really appreciate having you for a friend. Hope I can meet you someday. You are an inspiration to us all. May God bless you as your persevere in meeting your goals in life. *smooches*

Lullaby and Good Night

Monday, June 25, 2007

We're starting a get-enough-sleep challenge on the Christian Music Lover's team and I'm going to have to "flunk" this first night. After getting home from class, then going to a long meeting at church this evening, I now have to get up early to go to my second summer school class at the seminary.

So why am I not in bed already?! That's just it - when I'm busy like this, I tend to stay up to do just one more thing - answer another email, pay a bill, iron a few shirts. I tell myself that I'm just trying to make things easier on myself by being prepared for the next day, but getting enough sleep is preparation, too. Lord, I need an attitude adjustment! I'm glad there are some other Sparkers who are going to hold me accountable.

I usually need to get enough sleep too! (But I slept the whole day today during the storm. Wee!)

Today is day 100 of my personal challenge to exercise 30 minutes every day till my birthday on July 5! I'm scheduled to go nordic walking with the group from church. I'll have to think of a way to celebrate, maybe with a bottle of sparkling apple juice! but not with food!

Funny how the "donwannas" start setting in just around the time you're going to have a success: It was difficult to get out and walk yesterday evening, but when I did I felt great. It had rained and the air was cool and clean. I even went a little longer than planned. Thoughts turned to what I would do ON my birthday - exercise or take a break. I'm almost to the point where I can't imagine a day WITHOUT exercise. Guess the program is working!

The Muffin

Saturday, June 23, 2007

On Thursday, I met with a former English student and, appropriately, we went to Starbucks. (There are actually 3 in our German city!) I had decided the night before to substitute one of their yummy muffins for dinner. I have to say that I did enjoy it, but it wasn't up to my expectations. I realized that the conversation would have been just as good if I hadn't eaten it, and that I would have been much more satisfied with something else for the 500-something calories this "Very Berry" summer special treat contained. Mini-lightbulb moment!

Today I weigh 10 kilos less than when I started on this trip in mid-March. That's 22 pounds, half of which I've lost since joining SP.

This also means I need to lose only 3 more pounds and I can celebrate another milestone. If I keep up at about the same rate, I should reach that point just in time for my birthday - another excuse for a party!
