Merry Christmas, all! I'd like to share the video of a Christmas song I "found" recently. It was written just a few years ago, but has the feel of an old-time Appalachian style carol and has such a beautiful message. Take time to listen, if you can:

Thanks for all the get well wishes. I'm doing much better with just a little bit of a cough lingering on from the bronchitis. I had a tentative plan to travel this weekend to spend the holiday with friends, but the weather forecast pretty much put a kabosh on that. A good thing, too. It's 10 PM on Christmas Eve, has been snowing since 10 AM with no end in sight. Can't wait to see how much has accumulated by Christmas morning!

So, I'm spending the weekend at home and don't really plan to venture out much except for church on Sunday. If it ever stops snowing, I'd like to get out and take some photos of the winter wonderland. AND starting tomorrow, I'm going to track all my food again. I've gotten way off track this past week and need to get my focus back.

Glad that Jesus came that we might live,
Michelle

I'm so glad you are feeling better Michelle. Too bad the weather foiled your plans to travel, although it's wise to stay safe!

I agree that it IS such a joy to know that Jesus came that we might live!!! Praise Him!!

Merry Christmas! Glad you are finally starting to feel better! We have lots of snow here in the last 24 hours, too. I think it is about 7-9 inches. The most so far for here. Last year we had a few that were 12+ inches by this time.

We're snowed in here too. I wanted a white Christmas, but it kept us from going to my DIL's mom's for Christmas Eve. I hope the roads are better tomorrow so my kids can make it over. Have a wonderful Holiday!

Feelin' Floofy

Monday, December 20, 2010

I'll be so glad when I'm over this bronchitis! The steroid taper is almost at an end and I took my last antibiotic today. Yuck. I can feel that I'm retaining water and feeling puffy; my muscle tone is bleh, too.

And I miss my cardio, and doing more vigorous ST. Yesterday, on my walk to church, I enviously watched some joggers out in the crisp, clear, cold air and I'm looking forward to joining them sooner than later.

But yes, I will take it easy. I will, really, even though I plan to go to the gym tomorrow. I'll walk on the treadmill and hit the steam room.

With Christmas approaching, I've been missing Mom a lot -- she really got into Christmas. We used to tease her about the decorations in every corner of the house. I would love to be in Florida for the holidays this year but will be going in February and that's not too far off, either. In the meantime, I'm glad to know that Dad has had several invitations and will have a nice Christmas with friends and neighbors.

Hope the holiday week gets off to a good start for everyone!

emoticon I'm hoping you'll kick this sickness soon, Michelle. Lingering illnesses are so mentally exhausting as well as physically.

It's almost 4 years (in a week) since my mom died, but I never associate Christmas with her death. She'd be really upset about that, not because of Christmas but because she would want us to think of all the life she had. I'm glad, even while you're missing her, that you're talking about your mom's spirit and joy. We miss them no matter what, but we get to keep them with us when we remember and talk about all they did in life.

Bless your heart Michelle. You are really having a hard time licking that bronchitus. Continued prayers for you and your family are going up my friend.

The special days and holidays are always hard when you lose a loved one. Seems like a part of us always goes with that loved one and a part of them always stays with us. One day there will be no more parting and we will spend eternity with no more pain, sickness, or dying. Praise be to God for evermore!!

Hugs and blessings to you. Have a very Merry and blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Ending well...Goals update

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

My goal for the rest of this week (13-19) is to get well so I can end the year well!

*Take my meds
*Drink plenty of fluids (already a habit, so not really a goal)
*Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night
*Eat at least 6 portions of fruits and veggies
*Track food - plan snacks (tend to overdo when I'm home all day!) - stay in ranges
*3x3 Strength challenge
*30 minutes of (light) exercise a day

Fitness and Health Goals for Week of Dec. 6 (Nikolaustag) - 12:

*Track food the day before as much as possible (Made a good start but slacked off toward end of the week)
*Stay within ranges. (See above)
*Pack my lunches on work days. (Goal met!)
*3x3 ST challenge. (Goal met!)
*30 minutes a day exercise, increasing cardio as I start to feel better. (Goal met, but mostly ST and easy walking due to being sick.)
*Plan for calorie buffer on Christmas market visit days. (Didn't go - too cold for me to spend much time outdoors with this bronchitis.)
*Watch my portions at the company Christmas party on Friday. (Didn't go - wasn't feeling up to it.)
*2 trips to the gym. (Didn't go. Sick!)
*Neurologist appt. on Thursday. (Went to appt., go back in 6 months. Long story, tell ya later.)
*Remember that those cookies are for gifts, not for personal consumption. (Unfortunately, ate more than my quota, but they're out of the house now!)

eChristmas

Who could have imagined two thousand years ago that we would be sharing the message of Jesus' coming with friends all over the via an electronic web? Whatever means we use to communicate the story, it's the JOY that's at the center! In this post, I'm sharing three viral videos of the season that have given me some JOY this past week.

The first one makes me cry (for JOY!) every time I watch it:

A slightly (!) different take from The Silent Monks:

For the ubernerds among us. Take the time, if you can, to watch the whole 7 minutes. It gets better and better! The guy in the antlers!

Advent, Advent

Sunday, December 05, 2010

On this lovely, snow-covered second Sunday of Advent, I'm reporting on my weekend goals:

*Track and stay within ranges - did this yesterday and today. Went over a wee bit in calories today (about 3!)
*Partake in MINIMAL holiday treats when caroling - I had 3 cookies and a slice of "hefezopf" which is a sweet egg bread. About 250 calories total.
*Get in two more ST sessions to meet 3x3 challenge goal - Goal met
*Minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day - still need to get in a bit before bed tonight, but should be no problem
*Catch up on Spark blogs - Goal met
*Drink massive quantities of hot liquids to get rid of this COLD - I continue to do this one.

Last night after getting back from caroling, I took a hot bath and went to bed at 7:30. Woke up about midnight with a headache, so took a pain pill, a quick shower and went back to bed till shortly before 9 this morning. Decided to stay home from church and am still not feeling 100% but at least I'm rested.

Caroling was fun. It's always an adventure because many people are reluctant to commit to coming, then show up after all -- or not. We ended up having two good groups. The group I led had 6 singers, ranging in age from 13 to 59, and accompanied by guitar, violin and cajon. Quite an impromptu little band!

The seniors were all very grateful for our visits. I remind myself every year that we really need to take more time to visit during the year and not just at Christmas. But the Christmas visits do help to make Advent special for both the visitors AND the visitors.

Before I close:

*Watch my portions at the company Christmas party on Friday.
*2 trips to the gym.
*Neurologist appt. on Thursday.
*Remember that those cookies are for gifts, not for personal consumption. (Well, maybe one or two!)
