Mountain High

Monday, October 12, 2009

I'll be on vacation for the next few days, going to a retreat in the Swiss Alps. It's called "Time of Refreshing" and I know that it will be just that for me. I'm taking the train. It's a 7-hour ride, so there will be lots of time for reading, listening to music, daydreaming and snoozing. I will need to pay attention because I have to change trains 4 times and don't want to miss any connections! I know the route, though, having been to the same location about 6 times before.

At the retreat, we'll enjoy times of worship and encouragement, good fellowship, delicious food, and magnificent scenery. I usually get up for an early morning walk before breakfast. There's time for long walks or hikes in the afternoon.

I'll be doing without the laptop and Internet access is at a café down the street from the hotel. So I'll only be peeking in on SP once or twice. Good week!

Bye, Bye Credit Card!

Saturday, October 03, 2009

One of my CC companies decided to raise their interest rate to 24-something earlier this year. I opted out and the account will close when it expires at the end of the year. I figured there's no reason to keep the card around. I might be tempted to USE it! So today, with some encouragement from some other Dave Ramsey fans, I killed it!

You go girl! I HATE those things. We had the same thing happen after being great clients with Citibank for FIFTEEN YEARS. We never missed a payment. Not once. When my husband lost his job, I called and asked for their understanding. They didn't care. So.....we will NEVER be with Citibank again. I am so proud of you! I wish more people didn't live on their cards. It is a hard habit to break. Woohoo for you!

I can sure understand why people want to get rid of their credit cards these days. Those Companys are ruthless. I lost my job the end of last year, after working almost 26 years, and lived on Unemployment and my savings up until 2 mos ago. I now have no income, and I tried to explain to 2 of these high interest credit cards, that I was in the interim, as for getting my next income check. And those suckers don't care, I am still getting nailed for late payment fee (needless to say, I was never behind until now) and they are closing my accounts. I was floored at their behavior. Do these credit card companys know if they keep treating the "good paying" consumer this way, because of a minor setback, that they will lose us, and their company and their own jobs? Geeesh if only.

emoticon and emoticon Michelle. Those credit card companies are terrible any more. I have 2 cards but only use them every once in a while and pay it off as soon as the bill comes. I was in over my hear too many times...No More. I've been debt free for 10 years now!

I think you did the right thing by cutting it up. But cancel the account effective immediately, do not wait until the end of the year.

I pay my cards off in full every billing cycle. It's really the only way to beat the high interest.

Good luck to you!

Good for you Michelle...I only have one and it's always paid up at the end of every month. Sometimes you need then for buying things on the internet...but that way I only buy what I know I can pay for. It's good practice in self control too.

October already huh...boy I'm not quite sure what happened to September yet. Anyhow Michelle, your list looks fabulous. I hope October is a successful month for you.

PS. I was at the grocery store today perusing the fresh veggies and I seen a woman that could have been your twin. Obviously it wasn't you, but I almost wanted to go ask her if her name was Michelle anyway lol.

Progress, not perfection!

And I was far from perfect in September. I think I had jet lag for the first three weeks of the month!

Personal:
Daily MORNING prayer- still working on this
Daily journaling - didn't do this at all! :/
Support parents during Mom’s rehab stay, and concerning future decisions - ongoing

Home and Org:
Continue Work on TMMO baby step #1 - DONE! Woohoo
Bring US and German taxes up-to-date - have made good progress, not quite finished
Repaper and paint entry hall - not done
Put in order for junk pick-up - not done
Post some stuff on Ebay - not done
Change out summer - winter clothes - in progress (bedroom is chaos today!)

Study: Has been on ice since August, no progress in any of these areas

Plot out next year's course plan
Contact adviser - get info on OT course credit
Contact German adviser
Practice project present ideas to my adviser and appropriate persons
Make appt. with German admin

Ministry:

Rehearsals for Flea Market project - have had one, two more this week
Schedule orientation workshop for new worship team members - on schedule for Monday night
Send team guidelines to team leaders - sent
Christmas Choir project? - still deciding if this is feasible
Senior visitation - none, but have two visits planned

Language school:

Prepare workshop for video/magazine lesson plans - has been postponed, so no prep needed

Health and Fitness Goals:

No races this month (I don't like to miss Sunday church!) but 3 possibilities in October
1200 Cardio minutes - GOAL MET
More consistency in ST at least twice a week – go for 90 minutes - progress here, but it's been more like 60 and 90 per week
Continue daily 30 minutes exercise - yes! reached 365 days on Sept. 28!
Make OB/GYN appointment
Lose 3-5 pounds - lost only 1, but that's somethin!

Other:

Book flight for January/February 2010 - not done yet, waiting on conference dates to finalize trip plans

365 Days!

Monday, September 28, 2009

Today I'm celebrating 365 days of daily 30-minute exercise. I expected to be pretty excited about reaching this landmark. But somehow, it seems a little anti-climactic. Daily exercise has become such a habit that I seldom have to MAKE myself do it anymore. Granted, there are days when I'm too tired for a 30-minute run or cardio workout. On those days, I allow myself to skip the cardio and do 30 minutes of ST, or take a couple of 15-minute walks, or even spend part of the 30 minutes doing some good ol' stretches. The idea was that it was to be 30 minutes of CONSCIOUS exercise. The point is to keep moving!

Has this made a difference in my life? If you check my cholesterol levels, you can see that it certainly has. If you check out the size tags in my clothes, it certainly has. If you look back at everything that has happened in my family this past year, you'll understand that it may be the reason why I've been able to maintain my sanity!

To celebrate, I thought about taking a day off. Naaaaaaaaaaaaa, bad idea!! I'd come up short on my cardio minutes for the month! (Can you tell I've been Sparking for awhile?) Instead, I'll just post this blog. And then I'm going to set up a new streak on SP - onward to Year 2!

Love it! Yes, been attempting to see to it that I do 35 mins. cardio every day with 30-40 mins. of ST 3 x week. I miss a day once in a blue moon but have largely stuck to it. Still have to PUSH myself some days...especially if I've put it off till the evening.

It HAS become habit and if I ever think about skipping, my day just drags and drags until I say "oh the HECK with it...things just aren't going to be 'right' unless I JUST DO IT!" :-)

That's awesome, Michelle! I know what you mean about how much it's become a habit. It doesn't seem like any big thing now that I get it done, but oh yeah, it is! I'm happy that it feels effortless to make the decision to do it. I love momentum! Good for you for not taking a break. It's fun watching you streak.     This is impressive and not anti-climatic at all. You have made exercise a permanent part of your life and you have proved it. The hot topic on the message board is how long does it take for something to become a habit... most say 21 days but i say forever!
