Changes coming

Wednesday, October 08, 2008

I got the good news that my boss has okayed my leave of absence. This is also kind of scary because now I have to make the big decisions about my stay in the States and set a time frame. I did a little panicky snacking today as a result, but not too bad calorie-wise and it was mostly healthy stuff. And I'll be going for a walk shortly to burn some of those toasted almonds off.

Yesterday, I had a good, tho short session on the treadmill at the gym. I did one of the itrain workouts and was able to do it at the "runner" pace most of the time instead of my usual "jogger." That felt good!

And on the home front, yesterday Mom got the wiring in her jaw replaced with rubber bands, so she'll soon be able to eat soft foods again and then start learning to talk again. Knowing her, she'll be a fast study!

Excellent news and I don't blame you for over snacking , it's a huge decision.
Glad to hear that your mum is progressing well!

Oh Michelle, you must be so relieved by your mom's progress. I have thought of you often lately, and as someone with an elderly parent, I know the fear you feel each time there is an issue with their health. Welcome your mom when you see her and give your dad a big hug, he likely needs one. I thought maybe I'd send you one too, emoticon

Day of Germany Unity

Friday, October 03, 2008

Today is the German national holiday. It's also the day, one year ago, that I finally reached my goal weight of 58 kilos. I actually lost a bit more, then gained a bit and have been mostly hovering within my maintenance range of 58-60 kilos since then. At my last weigh-in I was at 61.5. That was just following my trip to the States and I was actually surprised it wasn't more because of all the comfort food I had been eating. I had also been running a half hour almost every morning, so I'm sure that made the difference!

Now that I'm over the jet lag, and the cold and UTI are almost gone, it's time to get back in action. I hearby declare that October is going to be my month to get back down to 60K. Them's fightin' words!

Hi Michelle wonderful to hear such success. The hovering it's a juggling in my case. But I'm still maintaining after 5 months, and I want to loose more but it's not realistic, I would have to work too hard to keep it up and that is not a life.
I have to beat the fear that being a cardiac patient instilled on me. They don't let me do treadmill this weeks but I'm just about to do weights ( I did the session with the trainer but worried).
I know I should be grateful that I have an opportunity to avoid a serious problem but it's difficult to accept when there are no symptoms.
Are you staying there or planning a permanent move to the US. Did you make up your mind.?

What a wonderful picture of your parents. 58 years is a number you don't see very often concerning wedding anniversaries. Congrats to your parents and may they have many more.

Looking up

Thursday, September 25, 2008

The trip to the ER on Monday, seemed to have gotten the attention of the staff at the rehab/nursing home and Dad reports that they are keeping a better eye on Mom since that incident. I guess sometimes things have to get worse before they get better! She's also been having lots of visitors and is using a dry erase board for communication now. That seems to be working well.

Just a reminder that my dad, sis and I are blogging at robahsroad.blogspot.com to report on Mom's condition to friends and family. So if you don't hear from me here on Spark for a few days, that's where I might be.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayer support!

Michelle, I just heard about your mom today and I want you to know that she is in my prayers, as well as you - and I don't say that lightly. My mom and I were always close, so I know how difficult this is for you. But you have God's everlasting arms to lean on, and I want to be there for you as well. I'll keep up with you through your blog.

Love,
Carole

Hospital and rehab stays are an education, you have to get good at monitoring them and speak out for your loved one. I had a few talks when DH was in hospital. Glad your era mum is communicating, that means a will to live and participate! Hope she continues in the up curve.
